Christian was scheduled to attend a writing conference in Mexico, but the pandemic derailed those plans. The conference has attracted legendary writers such as Robert Frost and Toni Morrison. Christian attended workshops and master classes.

While I am often a teacher, it was refreshing to be in the mindset of a student receiving feedback again. Being able to talk shop with other writers was invigorating.

His favorite part was talking one-on-one about the business side of writing with two editors from prominent publishing houses—a rare opportunity. He discussed his novel-in-progress with them, and one asked him to send his manuscript to her. Christian plans to pass what he’s learned onto his students at Franklin College, and is inspired by the idea that he could earn national recognition as a novelist while living in Indianapolis. His Creative Renewal experience also served as a bit of a personal mood boost as well.

I see a route to artistic and career success that wasn’t as clear before, and that makes me a more fulfilled person who is probably more pleasant to be around.
