Matthew Timothy Wallis, 39 was reported overdue on Saturday afternoon, when the helicopter which he was flying disappeared from tracking systems soon after takingoff from Wanaka Airport. Police has sought help from the Navy underwater search specialists who are equipped with the system that can operate in deep waters.

The Navy specialists are expected to assess the scene this afternoon.

On Saturday wreckage was found on the shore of an island in the lake.

Pilot Mathew is the son of Warbirds over Wanaka founder Sir Tim Wallis.

Police is presuming that pilot in crash is now dead and is focusing to recover the body when they resume the search on Tuesday.

Pilot’s brother paid tribute to his brother saying he is already missing him and will never ever forget him.

The Wallis family owns Alpine Helicopter and Minaret Station, remote and exclusive lodge and a working farm on the western side of Lake Wanaka in Queenstown.

Mr Mathew was a very popular in his group and well liked local helicopter pilot.

By the time we went into print the latest update was that the body of the missing pilot has been recovered from the Wanaka Lake as per release from the Queenstown Police.

If on one hand, pro bono attorneys are representing their sons, translators and interpreters are offering their services free of cost," she said.

Community Electronic Crime.

Electronic crime is becoming more common as we are moving into the age of computers, tablets and mobile phones with internet access.Electronic crime also known as e-crime or cybercrime refers to criminal activity that involves the internet, a computer, mobile phone and other electronic devices.

This year there have been several scams going around, one of which was where a person was claiming to be calling from the IRD informing the business owner or resident that they were currently under investigation by Police and that they had to pay a sum of money immediately to avoid prosecution.

Some e-crime relates specifically to computers, such as the distribution or damaging electronic viruses or launching a denial-of -service attack which causes a computer to deny access to the authorised user.

This is just one of a number of IRD scams that have been running throughout Auckland over the past eighteen months and undoubtedly won’t be the last.

Other examples of electronic crime include fraud, harassment, bullying, copyright breaches and making, possessing or distributing objectionable material such as child pornography, nonetheless the majority of incidents reported to Police regarding electronic crime relate to online scams.

Scamming is becoming more common and we are seeing an increase in this type of activity across the country and unfortunately some unsuspecting individuals are being conned into providing personal information including bank details and pin numbers over the phone or via the internet.

Reporting e-crime or scams is just like reporting any other offence and can be reported at a local police station. If you wish to report objectionable material or possible gaming offences, this can be reported to the Department of Internal Affairs. Other online offences can also be reported on the Net safe web site www.netsafe.org.nz If your or your family use electronic devices then you need to know how to stay safe online to prevent becoming a victim of e-crime. There is some very useful information on the internet regarding online safety and this can be found from the Netsafe website. WWW. netsafe.org.nz This web site has a list of all the current scams and provide helpful

information and advice for everyone.

If you are a victim of electronic crime or believe that someone is trying to con you then the New Zealand Police want to hear about it. You may indirectly prevent another person from being victimized or conned and may be able to help police identify those responsible.

Legitimate companies will never ask for your personal information over the phone or online and will never pressure you in to making a decision. Never give out your personal information such as your name and date of birth, bank and account details. Criminals use this information for fraudulent purposes and generally want access to your accounts or may use your details to apply for credit or opening up a line of credit.

Be smart and keep safe and if in doubt contact a friend, colleague or Police for advice.

The centre is open for use by the whole community including seniors, adults, youth and children. Regular activities for those who want to learn new skills or revive their skills will be made available during different parts of the day. The drop-in centre will be the first of its kind where seniors can meet like-minded people and socialise or relax in a safe and central location.

Shanti Niwas has been in the forefront of providing services to the elders of the South Asian community since 1994. Some of the services of Shanti Niwas include, Auckland wide Positive Ageing Day programmes, Elder Abuse Response Service (contracted by the Ministry of Social Development), Emergency Home, Dosti visiting services, Women’s Prison visiting service and other aged care support. Educational and recreational activities for the youth and children will be provided in association with organisations led by Bharatiya Mandir. Since the last 25 years, The Bharatiya Mandir has been providing services targeted at children and youth from the Indian Community. They run various classes for dance, music, yoga, arts & crafts and language speaking.

Bhartiya Samaj Commissioner Celebrates Matariki appointed at Unitec Education Minister Chris Hipkins has appointed a Commissioner at Unitec, after receiving the final submission from the Auckland-based institute of technology’s Council, which supported the move.

Mr Hipkins announced today that he was dissolving the Unitec Council and appointing Murray Strong as Commissioner to address Unitec’s financial difficulties.

“Unitec needs urgent and significant financial support and I believe that a Commissioner is needed to ensure both the Tertiary Education Commission and I have the oversight we need,” Chris Hipkins said.

Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust (BSCT) celebrated Matariki on July 14, 2018 and it was a great honor to have Mãori Community Elder, Helene to grace the occasion with her esteemed presence.

She addressed the entire audience and patiently explained the meaning of Matariki with its true significance in the lives of Mãoris.

Matariki is the Mãori name for the cluster of stars that rises in mid-winter and for many Mãori, it heralds the start of a new year. Traditionally, it has been a time for celebrating new life and planting new crops. In the 21st century, observing Matariki has become popular again as a cross-cultural celebration.

Our regular Senior Citizen’s Meeting followed this and there was a visible increase in the attendance

by our endearing members. The day commenced with a stupendous performance by our several senior member participants based on “The 1970s Bollywood Theme”. It was truly delightful to watch these 2-minute stints in the form of dialogues, dance performances and acts from each participant that made us travel back in time and took us back to yesteryears.

The entire audience applauded their performances and as a token of appreciation our respected panel of judges felicitated the top performers.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and it was yet another fun-filled eventful day that kept the entire audience glued to their seats. It was delightful to see everyone smile and look forward to more entertainment.

Local Stories Local government support on waste welcome Local government leadership is crucial to turn around New Zealand’s approach to waste, Associate Environment Minister Eugenie Sage says.

Today at its AGM and conference Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ) voted to support several proposals to tackle recycling and waste problems, including calling for strong Government leadership.

“I welcome local government's support and leadership on the pressing issue of waste reduction. Work is underway in the Ministry for the Environment in the areas identified by LGNZ,” Eugenie Sage said.

“Since becoming Associate Environment Minister with responsibility for waste I have heard loud and clear that New Zealanders want leadership in this space.

“China’s ban on importing recyclables is creating challenges and opportunities internationally and in New Zealand.

“New Zealand was sending 15 million kg overseas annually – mainly mixed paper and mixed plastics. China’s ban means that prices for the recyclable material in remaining markets have dropped dramatically. Sending our waste overseas is not the answer.

“A taskforce has been set up in the Ministry for the Environment to work alongside councils and recycling businesses and processors. One of its first actions is an urgent review of our collection and processing services for recyclables.

“The Government is using funds from the waste levy on landfills to invest in projects to reduce waste volumes and increase our onshore processing capacity.

“Officials are also working on how to better implement the Waste Minimisation Act, including expanding the waste levy to more landfills, and improving the data we have on recyclables and waste generally.

No end to the unkind cuts in health

New Zealanders are right to wonder when the stream of cuts by stealth in the health sector will come to a halt under the shaky leadership of Health Minister David Clark.

There have been cuts for the young, cuts for the old, cuts for people with rare diseases, cuts in mental health and cuts for New Zealanders needing cochlear implants. This begs the question: how many more of these cuts will there be?

Just last weekend, we heard that a universally-supported pilot to improve the response of 111 mental health calls has been scrapped for the sake of just $8 million.

As bad as these outcomes are for Kiwis, the nurses’ strike last week – the first in thirty years - had significant implications for patients of our national health system.

This decision, on top of the events of recent weeks, has made clear just how vague the coalition Government’s plan is around the health sector and how quick they have been to backtrack on election promises. After campaigning on pumping record amounts into health, they came up badly short when the books were opened for Budget 2018.

Elective surgeries that were cancelled include cardiac surgery, surgeries for cancer and joint replacements. These patients may have been waiting some time for their procedures and they could now be pushed back with a knock-on effect on all elective surgeries or those who missed out may even be bumped to the bottom of the list. We simply don’t know, because the Minister hasn’t spoken up. Now there is concern that further disruptive strikes are looming after the nurses’ organisation has said that further action will happen if additional funding isn't made available following the strike – which the Government hasn’t done.

It’s beggar’s belief that Labour spent less in this year’s Budget than National spent in last year’s Budget.

They pledged $774 million after our National-led Government added $888 million in new funding in 2017, and the $10 cheaper GP fees visits for all New Zealanders was missing.

This decision, which hadn’t even been approved by the Government Ministers, will cost lives if the focus and public scrutiny on better, faster healthcare in specific areas is lessened.

by Michael Wood, MP for Mt Roskill Michael Wood, MP for Mount Roskill hosted a Seniors’ Forum on Thursday 19 July to local seniors to inform them about new government initiatives for seniors.

The forum was held at the Dominion Road School in Mt Roskill. A diverse group of seniors from the area attended the forum. There were many from Indian and Chinese communities as well as many local seniors.

Michael opened the forum speaking about the Positive Ageing strategy and how New Zealand would have over 1 million seniors in 2028 and how a quarter of the population is envisaged to consist of seniors by 2038. He mentioned that the Positive Ageing consultation is continuing until 24 August and how people could provide their input on www.Superseniors.msd.govt.nz/ ageingpopulation This payment goes to everyone on National Superannuation or a main benefit. A payment of $20 a week for singles and #32 a week for couples will be paid over July/August /September in 2018 and from May to September from 2019. This is an automatic payment and there is no need to apply.

Warming up Kiwi homes was a topic which was of interest to many of the attendees. The government’s new Warmer Kiwi Homes insulation grants will fund up to 2/3 of the cost of insulation for home owners. This grant is targeted to low decile areas, people with health issues and for those with community services cards. From 1 July 2019, the new Healthy Homes standards for rental properties will kick in and homes will have to meet the new higher standards before being tenanted.

MP Wood, also discussed elder abuse in the community, which sadly is a real problem in our community with up to 10 in 1 seniors maybe affected. Abuse is more likely to be from a family member and could be physical, financial or emotional. If you think anyone is being abused, please reach out and support them. You can talk to the Police, Age Concern, and advice is also available from the Office for Seniors Helpline on 0800 32 668 65 Michael also provided some top tips for a warmer home this winter such as getting your hot water cylinder wrapped, trimming back trees that block the sun, using good quality thermal curtains,

opening your windows for 20 minutes each day and also borrowing a free insulation kit from any library to test your home for insulation. The group also enjoyed some beautiful music by Violinist Joy and morning tea.

International News Hoping for an 'extraordinary relationship' with Russia: Trump United States President Donald Trump met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin at the Presidential Palace here on Monday, marking the official beginning of the summit between the two leaders.

India News J&K Governor: Navy chief, Posters of Rahul hugging PM discuss ways to help youth surface in Mumbai

Indian Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba called on Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan in Srinagar on Sunday and discussed ways to encourage youth from the state to join Indian Navy.

The Governor sought Admiral Lanba's advice regarding the recovery of Wular and Dal Lakes and how a large number of youth from the Valley could be enabled to join the Indian Navy.

The Governor and the Navy Chief discussed a range of issues relating to

effective National Security management, including the challenges being faced in Jammu and Kashmir.

Governor Vohra thanked Admiral Lanba for the role played by the Navy during the 2014 floods in the state and recalled how the MARCOS, using their Gemini boats equipped with hightech gadgetry, established waterways to enable the boats of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other agencies to operate safely and save hundreds of lives.

Business “AIM is a cash-flow game changer,”

says Inland Revenue Customer Segment Leader Richard Owen.

It also reduces exposure to penalties and interest since it provides a more accurate calculation. Mr Owen says AIM is a brand-new tax approach that represents a completely different way of working so it is pleasing to see so many keen early adopters.

“We think that uptake will build steadily as more businesses adopt accounting software and embrace the opportunity to make their tax obligations simpler.

“Often people don’t rush into new services like this. The first year of filing GST through software attracted fewer than 2,000 customers – today it’s more than 85,000.

More than 1,100 customers have opted for more certainty around their provisional tax obligations by signing up for the new Accounting Income Method (AIM). “AIM is a cash-flow game changer,” says Inland Revenue Customer Segment Leader Richard Owen. “Our analysis of early adopters shows they’re coming from the types of industries we thought would benefit from AIM. “We’re seeing builders, plumbers,

mechanics, café owners and doctors using AIM as their provisional tax method of choice. These are the same businesses that we found traditionally overpaid their tax. They will now benefit from payments that better reflect their cash flow.”

AIM is available for small businesses with annual turnover under $5 million and means they only need to be pay provisional tax when a profit is made.

“If AIM proves to be the game changer for the early adopters that we think it will be, then we can expect many more customers will want to get on board.”

Auckland accountant Raquel Withers from Balance My Books is one of AIM’s foundation customers. She says the benefits of AIM were obvious but whether it was going to work smoothly was the big question.

“I found AIM really easy to use. There was some initial set up time because it was a new process, but we regularly update our clients’ accounts anyway, which meant adjustments for things like depreciation and private expenditure were already considered." Filing my first statements of activity still ended up being much simpler and quicker than I thought.

“I like how AIM takes the guess work out of provisional tax and substantially lowers the risk of under or over payment." Mr Owen says Inland Revenue will be working with customers throughout the year along with the software providers so that the product can keep being improved.

Registrations are now closed for the current tax year, but newly established businesses are still eligible to join AIM at any time. Legislation currently before parliament proposes allowing existing businesses to join during the tax year as well.

Housing Market News-looks promising It has been an eventual few weeks with big strides forward happening with the KiwiBuild project that will be the first true test of the new government’s radical plans around housing. The winter chill has also played a factor in the slow decrease of Auckland property prices, which are reaching new lows.

The First Kiwi Build Houses Built

According to information from Housing NZ Corporation, the prices are set for selling two-bedroom homes at $499,000, three-bedrooms for $579,000 and fourbedrooms for $649,000. The government announced that income caps for applicants will be set at $120,000 for sole purchasers and $180,000 for couples, and that mortgage providers will still apply the standard loan criteria for applicants, meaning between 10 and 20% deposit criteria.

The biggest news of the month is the buzz around KiwiBuild, one of the government’s biggest initiatives around solving the issue of housing affordability in New Zealand. Housing New Zealand Corporation announced the the first eighteen Kiwi build homes are up and will be completed next month on the first South Auckland site, and hope to have families moving in by October.

Over six thousand people had applied for the scheme within the first day of applications being opened which really highlights the demand for affordable housing in the country. To be eligible for the ballot, you must meet the aforementioned income caps and be a New Zealand Citizen or permanent resident and intend to own and live in the property for the first three years.

This is a big move for the government who have held by strong on this plan, despite strong concern from the opposition, and is the first strong evidence of the governments massive plan to build one hundred thousand affordable quality homes in a decade.

It seems that the winter chill is beginning to affect the housing market as the national asking price is now down 4.2%, the average asking price last month was $645,133, compared to $658,170 in May and $661,129 in April. This has seemed to be an ongoing trend in Auckland which

has been on a slow but steady decline since February’s peak of $994,873 which is down 8.3% to $912,071 in June – the lowest it has been since July last year.

There has also been a decline in properties being listed which could be a result of many waiting until the

summer before listing and testing the waters of the new government, historically the property market does see a small rise in the summer, so it will be interesting to see what comes to be in the next four months.

Recipe / Food Prawn Jhalfrezee

WEEKLY QUIZ

Jhalfrezee is a dish that was created during the days of the Raj. “Jhal” means hot and “frezee” means stir-fried.

This dish is cooked with coconut milk, red capsicum and spring onion.

Serves 6 • 3 tbsp canola oil • 6 cloves • 2 sticks cinnamon (about 5cm long) • 1 tsp carom seeds • 1 tsp ground coriander • 1 onion, finely diced • 1 tbsp crushed fresh garlic • 1 tbsp crushed fresh ginger • 1 tsp ground turmeric

• 1 ½ tsp garam masala • 1 tsp salt • 2 medium tomatoes, diced • 2 tbsp tomato paste • 24 large prawn cutlets, deveined and shells removed • 1 bunch spring onions, chopped • 1 red capsicum, cut julienne style • ½ cup coconut milk

Salt and red chili powder to taste. Chopped fresh coriander to garnish.

Heat oil in large pan over a low heat and add cloves, cinnamon sticks, carom seeds and ground coriander. Cook until you start to smell the aromas of the spices coming through.

Add the onion, stirring continuously so it does not stick to the bottom of the pan. Cook until almost brown.

Stir through garlic and ginger and

cook until soften and browned. Add turmeric, garam masala and salt and continue cooking until you start to smell the spice aromas.

Stir through tomato and tomato paste and keep cooking until you start to see the oil separating form the onion and spice mixture. Be sure to take your time with this and keep stirring so that it does not stick to the bottom of the pan. The mix that

you are making is called a Traka.

Sanctions on beneficiaries

- to be or not to be

The debate is on about the Government policy to increase the benefits to the underprivileged kiwis. Coalition partners are backing government to increase the benefits by up to 20% and suggesting for not being very tough on putting sanctions if beneficiaries fail to comply with the conditions, to qualify for it. Opposition leader Simon Bridges says National is committed to bringing back sanctions on beneficiaries to give them “more esteem and more of a purpose" and says if National comes back to power they will absolutely reinstate sanctions.

Simon Bridges says he does not want it to sound like ‘tough’ but at the same time National wants to fair to its voters and hardworking taxpayers who deserve their money to be spent well. He says further that his party also at the same time wants the beneficiaries who in terms of getting into a job, have a better life quality actually have more esteem and more of a purpose.

The Labour-NZ First coalition has removed, or is in the process of removing, many of the punishments introduced by the previous National-led Government after winning last year's election - such as docking payments to solo mothers who don't name the father of their baby. The number of beneficiaries being sanctioned fell 22 percent in the last year. The biggest falls came in sanctions for failing to show up for appointments and failing to prepare or participate in work. Work and Income has been asked to explore other options first, and any sanction now must be signed off by a second person.

Being soft on sanctions will surely will give expectations to beneficiaries that would lead to better lives for them. It also gives kind of false impressions to beneficiaries that they can get away with sanctions - it's a bit like crime, it should not work. This will lead to more beneficiaries, more people languishing on the dole queues. New Zealand currently has relatively low unemployment rate, but it would not take long to turn to disaster if government really decides to go ahead with this policy.

As always, there have been conflicting views about the sanctions and softening on sanctions. Last year’s, Ministry of Social Development report says that the sanctions actually didn't work, and actually they cause greater long-term welfare dependency. Even international researches have come to similar conclusion that even hardened sanctions do little to enhance people's motivation to prepare for, seek or enter paid work.

Fortunately, in New Zealand unemployment has been on a downward trend since September 2012, in the wake of the global financial crisis. The last time it rose was in the December 2016 quarter, to 5.3 percent. It's presently 4.4 percent.

Before the election the Green Party vowed to scrap all sanctions. It backed down during coalition negotiations, accepting that only "excessive" sanctions would be removed.

It will be good, if government takes a balanced approach in this regard and doesn’t let the beneficiaries take the impression of Labour led coalition government of going back to their old welfare state system rather than working toward making them ready to join the workforce even if it comes at the cost of some soft to hard sanctions.

Guru Purnima

Gu means darkness/ignorance and Ru denotes the remover of that darkness/ ignorance. Therefore, Guru means who removes our ultimate darkness/ignorance, known as Maya (illusion), and who inspires and guides us on to the path of Godrealization is the true Guru. Purnima means Full Moon.

Significance of Purnima Guru Purnima is observed as the auspicious day on the Purnima day in the Hindu month of Ashad (July-August). The right name for this day is Vyasa Purnima. Vyasa was born, completed the codification of the four Vedas and completed the writing of the eighteen Puranas on this day. Owing to the passage of time Vyasa Purnima came to be called Guru Purnima.

Purnima is the day when Moon reflects, without any hindrance the maximum light of Sun onto the world. Moon is the presiding deity of the Manas (Mind) and Sun is the presiding deity of the Atma (Soul). The mind of man is compared to the Moon, for it is as wayward as the Moon with its swing from brightness to darkness; this day, the Mind too has to be bright, effulgent and cool. As Moon reflects the maximum light of Sun, similarly, our Mind must reflect the Divine characteristics of Soul. That day is Purnima in the true sense of the term, when the mind is filled with pure love. Let your mind shine brilliantly like the moon on a full moon day. This is possible only when you fill your mind with love. If you become the embodiment of love, you will become divine.

Significance of Guru Purnima “Guru Brahma Guru Vishnu, Guru Devo Maheswarah Guru Sakshath Parabrahma,Thasmai Sri Gurave Namah” The above sloka (verse) states that a Guru is verily Brahma (the creator), Vishnu (the sustainer), and Maheswara (the destroyer). Guru means God. These are the different facets of God, symbolized by the three Gunas (attributes): Brahma is Rajas, Vishnu is Satva and Siva is Tamas. The whole cosmos is constituted by the three Gunas. The trinity (Brahma, Vishnu & Maheswara) is present in the form of the three Gunas within us. This is the meaning of the three words Bhur, Bhuvah, Svaha in the Gayatri Mantra. Bhur means Bhu-loka (Earth), which is made up of matter and so is the human body, can be referred to as materialization. Bhuvah means Prana (life force) that makes the body move. This is vibration. Svaha means wisdom. This is radiation.

The Vedas declare, 'Prajnanam Brahma'. This Prajnana is nothing but radiation.

Human being is a combination of materialization, vibration and radiation. You do not need to search God outside. Turn your vision inward, there you find God." Who is a True Guru?

What is the truth underlying the Guru principle? The word Guru has been vulgarized.

Such a pious word is being misused. Is he the one that teaches worldly education or explores the properties of matter, a Guru? Is he the one that describes in detail Natural Sciences, a Guru? No, they are only teachers. Do not depend much on them. It is better for you to prepare yourself and remain awake. The scriptures say to wake up from the deep sleep of ignorance. Remain fully awake, remain conscious, and go on learning.

The term "Guru" means one who dispels the darkness of ignorance. "Gu" means one who is beyond Gunas (attributes), "Ru" implies one who is beyond Rupas ( forms).

This refers only to God. That is why the "Guru" is hailed as Brahma, Vishnu or Siva. Only God is the true Guru. A true Guru is the embodiment of Brahmadanda (transcendental bliss). A true Guru is one who enjoys and confers changeless supreme happiness. He is beyond space and time; and there is nothing higher than Him. He has neither birth nor death, neither beginning nor end. He is God Himself: He is the Guru.

What you are supposed to know on this day of Guru Purnima?

You must understand that God is in you, with you, around you, above you, below you.

In fact, you are God. Recognize this truth in the first instance. Do your duty sincerely.

That is the true Sadhana.

How to celebrate Guru Purnima?

Guru Purnima must be celebrated with the prayer and contrition which alone can cleanse the heart, and not by feasting or fasting, which affect only the body.

You must have the courage and determination to face any kind of problems and difficulties. Promote the love of God and the fear of sin among the people. From today, develop your faith in God; engage yourselves in dedicated service to society and make your lives purposeful and helpful to those in distress or need.

Relationship between Guru and Disciple The relationship between the Guru and the Disciple is considered very sacred. This relationship is purely spiritual in nature and is independent of age of the two. It is based on maturity of Gyan (Spiritual Knowledge) and Sadhna (Spiritual Practice). The only awareness that a Disciple should foster is, ‘I should be uplifted spiritually’. The Guru too harbors only one thought, ‘May this Disciple be uplifted’.

- Barack Obama And that's exactly what Harry spoke about as he shared the experience of the dinner that he attended with Obama in town recently. This is a self-made entrepreneur whose story continues to inspire. Harry Chawla, the first Indian owner, and franchisor of Pak N Save, Mt Albert in this interview for The Indian News talks to us about his success, resilience and his greater purpose in life - to serve others. It was quite easy to recognise during the conversation that Harry is a prime example of extraordinary leadership skills. In it, Harry talks about the passion that inspired him to pursue his drive to own a supermarket, as well as the mindfulness, creativity, adventure, and love that goes into running this multi-million-dollar business.

In the exclusive interview, Harry talks about how at age 24 he came to New Zealand and worked and lived a tough life. The more he learned, the more interested he became in the business of supermarkets and harbouring a secret dream of owning one of them. A goal that he fulfilled in exactly ten years as promised to himself.

"My passion for this really awakened," Harry says in his powerful and positive voice full of enthusiasm that only a selfmade man can exhibit. "It's about devoting yourself to a business and to the people, earning a living and having fun."

A Paradigm Shift I came to this country not even knowing where it was located on the map to study post-graduation (business) at Waikato. I could not understand or speak English when I came here.

I started working at New World in Hillcrest and I never left the supermarket from that day.

Whether it was the bakery or the fruits and vegetable section, I got to know each department like the back of my hand.

I would wake up at 3 am and walk to the supermarket, go to college by 8 am and then work in the evening again.

I would study five days a week, pay my batchmate to explain what was being taught in the class and work in the supermarket on weekends from morning till night.

I came from a totally different culture, there was no temple here, being a vegetarian, I had hardly any choice for food- no roti, I did not smoke, or drink and all my friends would party. I would be the only sober one who would drive them all back home.

There is no Racism I believe that we are the creator of our own future. If you want a future, you have to go and create it.

If you think people look at you with different eyes, it’s not true.

There is a classic story of two dogs who go inside a room.

One comes out happy, the other comes out angry. We only see what we want to see and that makes us feel happy or sad.

I did not get this all very easily. Being turned down by the board for the supermarket after working for 12 years was a very big setback. But my rejection did not stop me. I was undeterred by this incident. I went back again after a year of working with another boss in another store.

And this time I got the contract.

One cannot own a supermarket like Pak N Save or New World with just big money. It's not a money-making machine. They give the store only to people who can prove themselves.

It took me 12 years to prove my worth, but I did it finally. The mantra is simple – determination and no shortcuts.

Every problem is a gift. You can take racism as a problem and let it be the excuse to take you down by accepting it or use it as your strength and turn your life around by being who you are – Unstoppable and Different.

Harry’s career trajectory is truly iconic, but any entrepreneur looking to make an impact can draw from his example to be an effective leader My first boss who was a lady used to call me names, swear at me. I used to see her drive a car- a BMW

and I told myself in 5 years, I will own this car. And I did that - in only 3 years. The day you have an ego, you are finished.

I was a 49 kg guy carrying 25 or 30 kgs of potato bags every day. But I was driven by only one goal and that was to have my own shop someday.

When I started working for my next boss, he told me “Give me ten years and I will make you a millionaire”.

And I did. I gave Bill ten years of my life. And I got what I wanted in just a few days short of ten years.

You have to have some kind of a vision to know where you are going and what is the plan. Do you wish to be in the driver's seat or do you want life just to drive you around? That is a choice we all have to make. There is no substitute for hard work.

You don’t get what you wish for. You get what you work for.

Today the Mt Albert store that I own has 300 staff working for me.

We have spent too many years in a culture broken by brutally powerful men We need to change. We have to change our mentality. We need to follow the rules. Do the right things. We left India, we came to this country for a better life. It’s not going to be better if we do the same things. It’s not good for us. It’s not all about money. We have to remind ourselves constantly - what is my ultimate goal? And keep making efforts to align us to that goal.

We need Honesty, the Right Attitude, and People Skills.

In her first ever magazine interview, Janhvi Kapoor has opened up about why her mom Sridevi never wanted her to enter the film industry.

Janhvi, who turned cover girl for Vogue India's June issue, was interviewed by filmmaker and mentor Karan Johar as he is the one launching her in Bollywood with 'Dhadak'.

The 21-year-old told KJo that Sridevi thought she wasn't thick-skinned enough to survive in movies.

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan and actress Priyanka Chopra - sharing screen space for the first time after 10 years - on Sunday began shooting for their highly anticipated project 'Bharat', set to be directed by Ali Abbas Zafar.

Zafar, whose previous two outings with Salman - 'Sultan' and 'Tiger Zinda Hai' received a thunderous response at the box office, took to Twitter to seek blessings.

"So here we are together again.... Bharat begins its shoot today. May God bless us.

From the film's location scouting to Disha Patani's training, Ali Abbas Zafar has been sharing various insights from the film with his fans on Twitter.

"She never wanted me to be an actress.

She was more relaxed about Khushi getting into films. She thought I was naïve, that I wasn't thick-skinned enough.

She wanted us to live a more relaxed life.

She loved what she did but you know it was intense," said Janhvi.

When the 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' director asked if she feels a void that she does not have her mother to turn to, Janhvi said, "Of course. I could always be the baby with her. When I'd wake up, the first thing I'd do was ask for her. I'd need her to put me to sleep sometimes and she literally had to feed me."

Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the movie also stars Alia Bhatt, Mouni Roy and Tollywood star Nagarjuna.

With the majority of its team's 23 players being either immigrants or the children of immigrants, France, at least for the time being, would shut the ugly discussions on immigration.

Footballer Kylian Mbappe, who emerged as the French hero of the World Cup, is the son of immigrants from Algeria and Cameroon. Similarly, footballer Paul Pogba was also raised by immigrant parents in Paris.

N'Golo Kante, who plays as a defensive midfielder for the France national team is the son of immigrants from Mali while Blaise Matuidi, a central midfielder of the team, is the son of an Angolan father and a Congolese mother.

Another player Samuel Umtiti is the Cameroon-born defender while Steve Mandanda was born in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The victory of France football team that includes mostly immigrants or children of

immigrants would let the boys be hailed as heroes in a country that has always witnessed a strained relationship with its North African minority.

The boys could be touted as role models for young people of Arab and African backgrounds in France's seedy suburbs.

Due to the team's victory the debates as to how to tackle the influx of migrants from Africa, how to deal with crime in the suburbs, or how to reduce unemployment among ethnic minorities might also take a backseat.

Hima Das wins India's first ever gold in U-20 Athletics c'ship

Sprinter Hima Das, from Assam, scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman to win gold in the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World U-20 Athletic Championships.

Creating another landmark, the daughter of a rice farmer from Nagaon's Dhing district has made everyone proud as she became the first woman to clinch gold for India at the IAAF in women's 400 m final race in Finland.

The 18-year-old sprinter, Das, has clocked 51.46 to win the gold, taking the track by storm through her smashing run overtaking three strong rivals from countries including US and Jamaica.

Taking about her victory, Das said, "I am very happy as I am the first girl in India to clinch gold in an athletic championship.

Special thanks to my Indians and thanks to my coaches. Big thanks to the Athletic Federation of India for their support. I am a proud Indian and I love my flag. I am very happy. This is the traditional 'gamosa' of our state."

Born and bought up in a poor family, Das, right from her childhood, was a bravehearted girl donning different hats.

Das' incredible journey which has inspired millions especially youths of

the country, couldn't have been possible without the guiding force of her parents.

"I am feeling really proud after getting the news. Since childhood, she has been a brave girl and dedicated to her work.

It is the outcome of her hard work and dedication. We wish a bright future ahead and hope she keeps delivering great performances in the championships," said Das' mother Junali Das. However, it is worth noting that with this win, Hima joins the elite team of athletes who have won medals in U20 world championships but she is the only runner in a hall of fame that has throwers like Seema Punia (bronze, discus), Navjeet Kaur Dhillon (bronze, discus) and Neeraj Chopra (gold, javelin).

The previous medal winners at the World Junior Championships were Seema Punia (bronze in discus in 2002) and Navjeet Kaur Dhillon (bronze in discus in 2014).

Das clocked an Indian U-20 record of 51.32 seconds to finish sixth in the Commonwealth Games 400m final in Gold Coast in April.

Since then, she has gone onto improving her timings. She lowered the Indian U-20 record in 400m to 51.13 seconds while winning gold in the recent National InterState Championships in Guwahati.
