New Woolton Society Plaque with a fascinating history Did you know that Woolton was home to the first ever convent in the county? At the time, the county was Lancashire, when the Benedictine convent of Our Lady of Consolation from Cambrai in northern France, relocated to Woolton in 1795.

16 displaced women, many elderly, reached the village after spending 18 months in a French prison. Within a few weeks, they had set up a school at 45-47 Woolton Street. Thanks to the efforts of The Woolton Society, the nuns are now commemorated with a plaque on the building. You can buy a pamphlet, with more information, at Woolton Farmers Market or Woolton Society Meetings.

Woolton in Bloom 2024 Calendar Those hard working, green fingered volunteers at Woolton in Bloom have published a 2024 wall calendar. It’s available to buy now, for just £5.

The charity receives no financial assistance from the local authority - they’re only able to keep our streets blooming as a result of fundraising. Sales of their annual calendar play a big part in that.

So, if you enjoy the floral displays you see around the village, support Woolton in Bloom by picking up a calendar from Brown’s Newsagent, Woolton Street, from the next Woolton Farmers Market or by messaging @woolton.in.bloom on Instagram (you will be charged £1 for postage).

Sustainable Starts CIC is a fantastic resource on our doorstep. The South Liverpool-based team are doing a great job of making sustainability affordable and accessible for families.

They manage Liverpool Cloth Nappy Library, supporting families across the city region to switch to reusable nappies - a potential saving of up to £1,000 per child, against the cost of disposables!
