The environment in which we live has a significant impact on our lives. We should value it because the environment

There are plants to give us oxygen, fruits, and vegetables.

Water for us to drink, and use. Animals, which offer tons of benefits, and a lot more. However, as time passes by,

ArtAugust Every month during the year 2021, there is a challenge that girl scouts accomplish to complete the #EightPointChallenge. During the month of August 2021, it was the time for the #ChallengeOfTheArts.

The girl leaders for this month were Senior Girl Scout Aleeza Rolane Maquiling, Cadet Girl Scout Leanne Joy Fernandez, Senior Girl Scout Jeuel Garmay, and Senior Girl Scout Jonalyn Pauchano. The registration day for the #ChallengeOfTheArts started last August 3, 2021.

The first activity was posted through the GSP Iloilo Council Facebook page last August 5, 2021. The first challenge was entitled DECODING THE MESSAGE. For this challenge, it only had 2 rounds. Each round had 2 codes. And on the 11th of August, they released another post for an interactive game with the girl scouts. In the post, it is seen that there is a ‘This or that’ where you pick between two items. And another template where girl scouts can post a picture of their favorite piece of art.

There was also a webinar premiered last August 16 of 2021 on the Youtube channel: GSP Iloilo Council. In the webinar, it was discussed by the 4 aesthetic girl leaders that there are 2 activities. The first activity is “A Showpiece: Envisioning Present Times”. In the first challenge, the girls created a poster that was relevant to the current situation. The second challenge is “Amplify Voices, Versify with a Purpose!”. In the second challenge, there were two options. The first option was a song and the second option was a poem. After accomplishing the activities, they would post it and tag the official Facebook page of the GSP

The girl participants are still getting to know each other virtually

Ever since 2019 when the COVID-19 pandemic has been upon us, most of us have faced many drawbacks in our lives and we also changed our daily lifestyles. But those obstacles did not stop the passion and the fire within us Ilongga Scouts to be at the service of our fellow girl scouts and to our community.

Traditionally every year, the Iloilo Girl Scout Council conducts an election for their Senior-Cadet Planning Board Committee. So the Senior-Cadet Planning Board Conference was held on August 13-15, 2021 with the theme “Create, Unite, Excel”. The conference offered activities and sessions that helped the girls and Titas to encourage young girls to become leaders in their own ways, and also become a better and responsible individual to their communities.

An online election was held on August 15, 2021, through Zoom. Also during this term, the SeniorCadet Planning Board was divided into two sets, the Cadet Planning Board and the Senior Planning Board.

The Senior-Cadet Planning Board Officers elected 14 girls from both Senior and Cadet Girl Scouts and chose 2 supportive titas of the Iloilo Girl Scout Council as advisers.

Generation Equality Youth Task Force, set up by UN Women in August 2019, and Generation Equality Youth Journey Process from July 2020. As the leading organization for girls and young women in the world, we wish to further engage in the journey of the Generation Equality (GE) campaign to bring girls and young women’s voices to the table.

It is undeniable that unless adolescents and young people unite and mobilize to empower women and girls, the realization of gender equality by 2030 will not be possible.

It is within this context is how the WAGGGS Team for Generation Equality Campaign came to be.

The WAGGGS Team for Generation Equality (WTGE) Campaign works on creating visibility and advocating for spaces for girls and young women in the global and national Generation Equality campaigns.

This is the reason that seven Ilongga Scouts were selected to be part of the WAGGGS Team for Generation Equality Philippines. They are Sr. GS Ely Alex Escantilla, Cdt. GS Honey Parreno, Cdt. GS Holly Dei Syree Fundal, Cdt. GS Janelle Sargado, Cdt. GS Queenie Belle Desamero, Cdt. GS Milca Jane Cameseria, and Cdt. GS Aleeza Rolane Maquiling. The team members will be working on various deliverables such as representing WAGGGS and speaking at global spaces, strategizing to amplify girls and young women’s voices at the GE global process, organizing national/sub-regional webinars to involve adolescents, girl guides, girl scouts, and youth to raise awareness about Generation Equality Forum, to ensure the meaningful involvement of adolescents and young people in the global processes of the Generation Equality Forum and Campaign.

Due to the current circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic, WTGE Philippines held an online discussion forum entitled “Generation Equality Unlocked & Way Forward: GSP’s head start towards an equal future for girls and young women” in December 5, 2021. The said event aims to connect with their fellow girls in green to create space for adolescents and young people to bring their voices to a global process and to make them aware of the importance of Generation Equality and empower them to mobilize global processes to accelerate the progress towards gender equality.

The Girl Scouts of Korea (GSK) held the 18th Girl Scout International e-Camp on August 1-20, 2021, with the theme "Apart and Together! Making Endless Possibilities Through Opportunities and Challenges."

Thousands of girls and titas (adults) from all over the world attended the camp. Sixty of them were from the Philippines, including two from the Iloilo Girl Scout Council, namely, Merrily Jane Pedroso and Sr. GS Carlyn Claire Fullente.

Because of COVID-19 movement restrictions, GSK has created an online platform for international exchanges that allows girls and young women from all over the world to meet beyond the constraints of time and space.

Participants engaged in a one-on-one matching program with their own 'My Page' where they could directly chat with others based on nationality, age, language, and other interests.

“It (The camp) was an escape, for me, from the worries that engulf me in these trying times. It turned out to be a fantastic opportunity to learn a lot while making new friends from all around the world and sharing my creativity via my missions and video presentations.”, said Sr. GS Fullente.

There were also celebrity performances by K-pop star 'OH MY GIRL,' GSK's ambassador, and special lectures by mentors in various fields. Two to three missions and experience programs were also presented throughout the duration of the camp.

After successfully completing these missions, virtual badges were awarded.

The Girl Scout International Camp is a representative, international exchange activity organized every two years by the Girl Scouts of Korea (GSK).

September 2021 PH Girl Scouts Celebrate Annual Girl Scout Week Written by: Sr.GS Leanna Grace Oro The Girl Scouts of the Philippines celebrated Girl Scout Week 2021 from September 19 to 25, 2021, despite restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Amid the pandemic, we continue our celebration through online activities to commemorate the life, legacy, and to give honor to our Founder, Josefa Llanes Escoda, who is our inspiration for empowering girls and young women all over the country.", the GSP stated.

Various councils from across the country took part in the week-long activities organized by the national GSP under the theme, "Walking Together, Walking Far".

The national event kicked off with a badge reveal last Sept. 17 and was then followed by an Adolescent Female Health (AFeH) PeerEd Masterclass on Sept. 18.

Sept. 20 is celebrated as Founders Day to commemorate the birth and legacy of the GSP’s founder, Josefa Llanes Escoda.

The diversity and uniqueness of every girl were celebrated on Sept. 21 during the Partnership/Community Day. The following day, the Troop Leaders or Titas were honored for their unwavering support and unconditional love for the girls and the scouting movement.

Environment Day was the theme for Sept. 23 and everyone was encouraged to change bad habits, conserve energy through simple ways, and unite to preserve ecology.

On the next day, it was the Girls Day celebration.

The spotlight was on all the girls who had to express their purposeful togetherness. A virtual campfire took place in the evening via Facebook live.

Family Day was the theme of the last day with the girls doing family activities of bonding and togetherness.

The week-long celebration was very meaningful and ended with a virtual Closing Ceremony.

In celebration of National Teachers Month on October, the Girl Scouts of The Philippines presented the “Titalks 2021”.

This was in honor of all the incredible Titas of the girl scout movement who have spent so much effort in the lives of the girls in their respective councils. Titalks 2021 is a 2-episode feature live show at Facebook which had our amazing Titas discuss their personal journeys and experiences within the organization. Guest speakers from different parts of the Philippines joined to take part in the action to inspire and motivate girls to become phenomenal women. It was truly a much-awaited event for all members of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines.

Reyes of the Laguna Council discussed “GSP Membership Recruitment and Retention”. Council Executive, Diploma's Trainer and DIGITrainer, Ma. Jesus S. Sampang of the Rizal Council talked about “GSP Online Fundraising Events and Activities”. Iloilo GS Council Executive and prospective trainer, Claire E. Laru-an covered the “GSP Virtual Program and Training Activities”.

HT ME HOW TO SHINE The second episode of Titalks 2021 featured a more personal talk dubbed as “Troop Leaders’ Journey Amidst the Pandemic”. Troop Leader & credentialed Trainer, Rebecca P. Valdez of the Isabela Council shared her inspiring battle against COVID-19 and emphasized the importance of getting the vaccine. Troop Leader, credentialed trainer, DIGITrainer Minnie S. Caisic of the North Cotabato Council described her longing for face-to-face activities to be possible again and her attitude of not stopping. Her fiery passion for molding and educating her girls despite the spontaneous changes of the pandemic brought upon her the skills to be called, “Techie-Tita”. Troop Leader and prospective trainer Cherly C. Rodriguez of the Surigao del Norte Council spoke about the different activities that she was participated in during the pandemic such as from serving frontliners and helping volunteers, which makes her truly a “Tita for All Seasons.”

The success of the event was overflowing with supportive comments and cheers. Viewer-count ranged from 14K-24K during the livestreaming on the Facebook page of the Girl Scouts of The Philippines.

A joyous celebration in appreciation for all the accomplishments and efforts our Titas have done to influence and motivate us to become better women.

This year’s Josefa Llanes Escoda E-Conference Series about Adolescent Female Health was held for 5 consecutive Saturdays, from October 2 to 30, 2021. In this nationwide event, each council sent one representative. Sr. GS Ma. Theresa N. Arroyo from Troop No. 571 of the Iloilo Doctors College represented the Iloilo Girl Scout Council.

At the conference, participants were trained to discover and embrace themselves, and are expected to empower more girls and the community as a whole. They were also presented with the laws protecting not only the rights of every woman but also their mental, physical and health aspects. Topics like Adolescence, Fertility Awareness, Gender and Sexuality, HIV, STI and AIDS, and Violence Against Women and Girls were tackled .

Sr. GS Arroyo is eager to share her learning to the people around her ,especially her co-girl scouts. She wants to highlight that one must embrace one's flaws and turn them into one’s strength that can create a change - a change that can touch one’s heart, mind, body and soul.

Surf Smart 2.0 Generation Digital is a non-formal education program that teaches young people to interact online in a secure and positive way. It's a one-of-a-kind program that equips young women with the knowledge and skills they need to keep themselves and others safe online. Participants will learn how to utilize the internet as part of Generation Digital to not only interact, learn, and have fun, but also to raise their voices as global citizens.

October 11, 2021 and on October 22 to October 24, 2021.

This training was done in two batches with 60 participants for each batch. The three-day training course gave participants the fundamental skills they need during their journey in the Girl Scout Movement.

The

assisting

The learnings from this course are applicable not only in Girl Scouting but also best shared with others. The essential skills they learned will assist them well throughout their lives.

BIYERNES NA!: KAMUSTA ILONGGA SKAWT? BY: CDT. GS AINA CABANGAL

The Iloilo Girl Scout Council conducted the first-ever virtual Friday Kamustahan on July 23, 2021. This innovation maximizes the use of digital communication in providing mental health support to all the girls who are participating in the said activity.

Friday Kamustahan airs live every Friday at 6:00 p.m. through the Iloilo Girl Scout Council Facebook account. Titas and the Girl Leaders facilitate and host this activity.

Various topics and activities are presented during the program so that viewers won't get bored while watching and participating in the said event. The pandemic didn't hinder the Girl Scout spirit of the Iloilo Girl Scout Council with Council Executive, Tita Marie Claire Laru-an, support staff and all the girls throughout the Visayas region. Different kinds of fun approaches are conducted to promote the Girl Scout Promise and Law in daily activities .

According to Tita Frem Sette Nazareta or "Tita Candy", Friday Kamustahan aims to connect with all Ilongga Scouts across all age levels. The talks include reminiscing about scouting events, sharing wonderful stories about girl scouting and other topics to inspire everyone. “This program helps the people understand and appreciate how the Girl Scout activities can impact the life of a girl," Tita Candy said.

She added that "Through this activity, the IGSC has reached many girls especially in this time of pandemic when face-to-face activities are hindered.

So, Friday Kamustahan paves the way for the girls to enjoy and experience scouting fun virtually."

It's not about the absence of face-to-face activities but it's all about the passion,

dedication,

and

commitment

to

the

scouting

movement.

Friday

Kamustahan is one way for all the Ilongga Scouts to be reunited despite the Covid-19 Pandemic.

AMBER GWYNETH AGUILOS: AN ILONGGA INTERN FOR IDG BY:SR.GS RHODA PEREGRINO

Among the 140 girls who applied, Cdt.GS Gwyneth Amber Aguilos from Troop No. 528 of Iloilo Girl Scout Council was one of the 8 girls who got in as an intern and was given the chance to take part in the International Day of the Girl 2021. This event is celebrated on the 11th of October and the theme this year was "Digital generation. My Generation.". The activities centered on the theme "#WriteHerStory"; under the activity pack which focused on empowering girls to discover and pursue their personal advocacies.

What advice do you have for other Girl Scouts who are yet to reach their goals?

First, know what you want to achieve; second, work on it step by step (don’t rush everything); and third, believe in yourself!

Everything will work out as long as you put faith and love in what you do.

Had you ever had to deal with hardships? If so, what exactly are they?

None at all! Everyone was so cooperative during the event. There were no complications or misunderstandings working with my fellow girl scouts.

Kamustahanay with Manang LODI How was your internship experience?

It was fun! The Ates I was with were very welcoming and kind. I had no problem communicating with them despite coming from different regions/councils. I applied for the internship having no idea what to do, I just saw it on my FB timeline and gave it a try.

In your opinion, how did the internship benefit you?

Since I got to work with diverse girls and some of our Ate-idols all over the Philippines, it helped me improve my communication skills and of course, be able to get along with others.

One of these youth leaders is Milca Jane Cameseria, a 16-year-old Girl Scout from the Philippines. She is an Advocacy Champion of a global programme called Girl Powered Nutrition Programme, run by the World Association of Girls Guide and Girls Scouts through their member organization in four countries; including the Philippines. These countries were chosen because of their high rates of adolescent malnutrition amongst girls, wherein it allows them to be agents of change at local to global levels and support for an end of malnutrition

worldwide.

As malnutrition has become one of the major issues in the world, Act4Food encourages the government, businesses, UN agencies and everyone to act promptly against it. People like Milca can inspire young scouts to pursue a goal to make a change in our world's food system for the better.

Just like Mulan in the movie who cut her hair and pretended to be a man to spare her dad from going to war, you can help by cutting your long hair and donating it to those in need.

Why do we share? What do we gain from donating our hair? By donating your hair to patients in need, you can help build someone's confidence up again. One’s happiness may light up again because of you, with a smile present again.

The gift of giving truly is a blessing to others.

1. Don't wash your hair too often.

Depending on your hair type, washing too much or too little of your hair

can cause damage.

2. Choose the right products for your hair type.

Also depending on your hair type, choosing the right products and

formulas in shampoos and conditioners improve your hair.

3. Beware of chemicals and certain ingredients.

Some ingredients in hair wash may cause damage or can cause an

allergic reaction.

4.Use protection like heat protection spray, conditioner, and oils.

If you’re out in the sun for too long without proper protection, then that’ll

surely damage your hair. Always choose the right products for you.

5. Don’t use too much heat.

Use the right shower temperature when bathing. And when you’re

straightening or curling your hair, always start with the lowest setting before gradually heating it up as it may cause heat damage and fry your hair.

TIPS ON TAKING CARE OF YOUR HAIR

ILONGGA GIRLS FOR NUTRITION Written by Ianah Marie Basug

Malnutrition has been one of the many problems the world is currently facing. With the underlying threat, the Girl Scouts took action. Last December, eight girls from the Iloilo Girl Scout Council set off to help combat the war against malnutrition. Through the Girl Powered Nutrition Western Visayas Core Team, they were prepared by undergoing a two-day workshop on September 10-11, 2021.

Senior Girl Scouts Danielle Bautista and Ma. Theresa Arroyo together with Cadet Girl Scouts Gwyneth Amber Aguillos, Janelle Sargado, Jannah Marie Lyn Baldevieso, Claire Ann Cortuna, Ellmae Ansino and Ferdelle Grace Torred were the chosen girls to be part of the team. After their training, the girls worked on their project plans which were approved by the region’s core team.

On December, the team was able to open online activities through Facebook. These activities were Nutri-InstaGlam, Nutri-Vlog, Nutri Pageant, and Nutri-Plant. All activities were open for Star, Junior, Senior, and Cadet Girl Scouts of Iloilo Council.

With these simple acts, the girls were able to open the minds of many and inspire other girls to be healthy. Afterall, nutrition plays a huge role not just in our lives, but also in the community.
