Carry the Girl Scout Mission by mirroring the promise and law molding themselves and others to be better people, serving as the beacon of life and hope that depicts determination and dedication. The Outstanding Girl Scout Award is a prestigious recognition of excellence from Girls all over the Philippines.
Cdt. GS Holly Dei Syree T. Fundal from the Girl Scouts Iloilo Council is an 18-year-old grade 11 senior high school student at Assumption Iloilo. Through her hard work and exemplary accomplishments, she was awarded the title of Outstanding Girl Scout of The Philippines 2021. One of six recipients of the award.
When asked about her emotions when it was revealed that she had won, Fundal provided an answer that did not disappoint, revealing how “surprised” and “euphoric” it all was.
“I vividly remembered that it was on the 3rd day of March 2022… I checked my email to find something important, I got a notification that says ‘National Outstanding Girl Scouts 2021’ And when I opened it, it was a congratulatory letter from the GSP NHQ Program Division,” Fundal answered. “ I was talking with my cousin while working on our school work, and then I said the word ‘OMG’ and I had to end our call. At the same time, I messaged my parents about the news, since they were at work at that moment.”
Fundal mentioned that it was unexpected. “I only do things passionately and with a heart. Never expecting something in return. There was a feeling of anxiousness and a series of questions like what if’s and why’s. But I guess, it was by God’s grace and will that I reached this milestone.”
The Outstanding Cadet believes that “we all have our own purpose in our own little actions to be a light to someone.” “... Do not be afraid to fall, just stand back up and God will lead you to the right path.” The setbacks and tribulations she faced were only stepping stones for her to become a better and bolder version of herself.
Filled with gratefulness, Cdt. Holly Fundal expressed that she was most thankful for her family, “they have been supporting me ever since. Through my ballet classes, community works, girl scouting, or even at school.” Acknowledging also her Girl Scouts of the Philippines family, “...especially to the Iloilo Girl Scout Council, who welcomed me and embraced me for who I am.” Depicting them as her safe space and backbone through thick and thin.
“Be Yourself. No matter what you do, if you compare yourself to others, it’s okay, but just remember that you are YOU, you are unique and YOU can do anything that you want to do. Just set your heart from within with passion and purpose to your goals because I know that despite all life’s tribulations, there will always be a light that will lead you to the right path. Remember that God will always be there for you through thick and thin and don’t worry too much, just enjoy the journey with a smile. All the best, girls, and Love lots! Keep that green heart burning with love!” A message from Fundal to aspiring girls that perfectly ended the interview.
A girl that started her journey with a passion, A representative that lit the way, a Chief Girl Scout Medalist determined in her actions, and an Outstanding Girl Scout deserving of her win.

PATROL LEADERS CAMP PERMIT COURSE
written by Sr. GS Danielle C. Bautista
With the cool sea breeze and breathtaking view, the girls felt the thrill while doing the tons of activities prepared for them. Activities like knottying, coastal clean-up, games, etc. Also, because of the beautiful sea near them, they also enjoyed swimming!
Despite the challenge of having a pandemic and the constant change of weather, this doesn’t stop the girls from having fun during the outdoor camp Memories were made, new friends were found, and the green spirit in us still continues to burn.
Iloilo Girl Scout Council has held its first faceto-face outdoor camp after almost 3 years. The Patrol Leaders' Camp Permit Course was a 3-day camp held last April 29 - May 1, 2022, at Brgy Balabago, San Joaquin, Iloilo It had limited slots but was open to all senior and cadet girl scouts. Trees are nature's most generous providers. They perform an incredibly vital function in giving life and sustaining it in general, as well as keeping ecological balance The Girl Scouting movement is a safe space for girls where they are trained to address environmental and social issues. Being a Girl Scout means, among other things, using resources properly and making a better world.
On the 18th day of June 2022, Ilongga Scouts together with their friends and family take part in the Mangrove Planting Activity of the Iloilo Girl Scout Council at Leganes Integrated Katungan Eco-Park (LIKE). More than 80 mangrove trees were planted. According to Senior GS Edrianne Gumayan, one of the participants during the activity, it was a great experience for her because it helps her to be responsible by encouraging other Girls by letting them know the importance of Mangroves in our environment.
Despite the challenges brought by the pandemic, the one-day activity is a success Many girls of different age levels with their families enjoyed and had fun during the activity As Girl Scouts, one of our duties is to protect our mother earth and be an agent of change. Just like what Juliette Gordon Low said, “The work of today is the history of tomorrow and we are its makers'' Together, we are one in making our Earth green for better future generations
