GIRL SCOUTS LAW : TO GOD AND MY COUNTRY By: Cadet Girl Scout Carmela Jade Cortez
The Challenge of Spirituality and Well-being is a Girl Scout activity which contributes to the making of a well-rounded girl with a sound mind, body and spirit. This was the focus on the fourth month of the online activity dedicated to the Eight-Point Challenge. The fourth challenge was launched on April 10, 2021 withSenior GS Amber Gwyneth Aguilos and Cdt. GS Emelyn Sua-an Bagsain as leaders.
The three exciting activities they prepared were Chain of Hearts, Pledge of Commitment
and Through the Lens.Chain of Hearts is
about letting the girls remember the things they had been through. Then they cut out hearts where they could list the names of people who helped them go through that situation. The second activity is the Pledge of Commitment where the girls are tasked to list their bad habits. They then wrote a pledge for themselves to correct those bad habits and to discover better ways that will lead them to the right path. The last activity is Through the Lens. The girls had to choose three muses, namely: animal, object, and person that had an impact on each girl’s well-being .
To cap the month-long activity,, the girl leaders organized on May 8, 2021 a digital training entitled “Finding Your Purpose in the Pandemic”. Pastor Lloyd U. Basco, a values education teacher from Central Philippine University was the guest speaker. Pastor Basco gave advice and shared ways to find one’s purpose in life. He highlighted four steps to find one’s devotion in life . First is to start with Jesus. Second, is to seek Godly counsel-encouragements. Third, is to study the Bible, and lastly,
to shun evil. He also
acknowledged that girl scouting is a good organization in which young girls are trained to be God-fearing which can help in their everyday life and to maintain their well-being.
Tita Helen H. Deguma, our Council’s Diplomat Trainer concluded the event with these words, “we (Girl Scouts ) are made to open our eyes and our awareness to find what we can do to our surroundings not only for us but also for others”.
