We are indeed living in unprecedented times and sadly, hunting and game conservation have not escaped the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The pandemic has dictated that shooting and member activities be put on hold and hunting on game farms has been severely restricted largely due to the ban on interprovincial and international travel. This has been devastating for the sector and has economically crippled the hunting industry. As a businessman, I know that absorbing the impact of zero income and weathering the storm is no easy feat. At the time of writing, a move to level 2 has just been announced which is welcome news for both hunters and hunting farms as interprovincial travel is now permitted. However, we are also mindful of the fact that hunting season has passed and it may be too late for farmers to reap the full benefits from the easing of the ban. Let us remain optimistic however, and support the industry as much as we can. Prayers for resilience and sustainability, and a pragmatic resumption to normality for the sake of livelihoods, and prayers for safety and good health for everyone.
