In the past month or so we have all been reminded about Health and Safety within the workplace. World Day for Safety and Health at Work was on 28 April and the UK Airports Health and Safety Week was from 13 to 19 Mayyou will be able to read more about these events within these pages.
The nature of our work, the environment in which we find ourselves, can be extremely dangerous and I cannot impress on you enough the need to look after yourselves and colleagues whilst in the workplace; and it’s not just the workplace but the journey to and from home. Indeed, the awareness of keeping safe that is instilled in you should be passed onto your families too.
Recent events constantly remind me of potential injuries that can occur whilst working airside on the ramp around aircraft. Noise, hustle and bustle, and time constraints around an aircraft departure or arrival, engines running, and ground equipment being moved can all add to our lack of concentration at a crucial moment.
The environment of Corporate Security can be just as dangerous and the same safety principles must apply. I applaud everyone focusing on Health & Safety, be it our Managers, Supervisors, Trainers, and H&S Champions alike.
Congratulations are in order to Charlie Howden from our Canine Division who was the winner of our first Q1 Safety Culture Award.
The good news stories continue to come with the winning of new contracts - in Corporate Security with another Data Centre contract and in Aviation where our footprint at Gatwick took a leap with the addition of British Airways to our list of customers.
This year, I have enjoyed immensely coming out into the operation and surprising some of you with your Long Service pins. It is a privilege to meet you, especially as you reach your milestone year of service. I wish I could meet you all, but there are so many of you that are achieving 10, 15, 20 and 25 years’ service that it is impossible to see you all. That number is a success story in itself!
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jed Marshall who has retired. Since joining ICTS in 2007, Jed helped put together the building blocks of our Canine Division and then went on to lead the team so well. Best wishes on your retirement, Jed, and again thank you from us all.
As usual, I’ll end with - take care, stay safe and keep warm!
- Andy.
OUR EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR 2023, KAMAL HASHI, SELECTS HIS CHARITY OF CHOICE: KILBURN WELFARE ASSOCIATION
As part of our Employee of the Year scheme Kamal Hashi was able to select a charity to receive a monetary donation of £3,500 from ICTS UK & Ireland.
Kilburn Welfare Association was selected by Kamal who went on to say, “I selected the Kilburn Welfare Association because of the profound impact the Charity had on my life when I first arrived in the UK.
They provided me with ESOL (English for Speakers of other Languages) courses and support that allowed me to learn the English language from scratch and integrate into British society, ultimately enabling me to pursue further education and gain multiple qualifications.
Their ongoing work in supporting and integrating minorities, along with organising community activities, is truly commendable. I have also been volunteering with them ever since.”

Thank you to The DCA - Data Centre Alliance for hosting a very informative and enjoyable 10X10 Data Centre Update and Networking event on 18 April 2024 at the beautiful Wren Suite at St Paul’s Cathedral, London. The event offered us the opportunity to discuss with other attendees ICTS’ total (physical) security solution for data centres which includes the integration of security personnel, technology and canine services.
As a Group, ICTS security teams operate in over 100 data centre sites across 8 countries. Our emerging technologies and strategic approach shape the global security landscape, making a significant impact in the environments in which we operate.
We look forward to participating in the DCA's - Data Centre Transformation Conference 2024 on 4 July in Birmingham - a one-day event consisting of panel sessions, workshops and updates from Government and industry experts.
The following is an overview of recent activity around our National Awareness Day campaigns:
Day (22 April 2024)
We celebrated Earth Day by planting trees to promote environmental conservation.
As a company, ICTS is committed to sustainable development. We are proud to continue our partnership with the UK’s National Trust to mark Earth Day this year. In support of this important occasion, we donated 24 trees to be planted in 2024.
This initiative not only underscores our dedication to combating deforestation and climate change but also reflects our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and conservation efforts. Together with the National Trust, we aim to make a positive impact on the environment and inspire others to join us in protecting our planet for future generations.
(28 April 2024)
This day serves as a reminder of the importance of prioritising safety and health in the workplace and ensuring that every individual returns home safely.
The theme for this year focused on exploring the impacts of climate change on occupational safety and health. Examples of occupational risks exacerbated by climate change include: heat stress, UV radiation, air pollution, major industrial accidents, extreme weather events, an increase in vector-borne diseases and increased exposure to chemicals.
Our Health and Safety Department ran an internal competition this year staff members were invited to create a poster which included a slogan that incorporated the key themes of International Safety and Health at Work Day. Many congratulations to our winners and thank you to all who took part:
First Prize (£250) won by Dumitru Gornea (Regional Manager - Corporate Security) ICTS UK (see Dumitru’s poster below).
Second Prize (€150) won by Glen Lee Healy (Data Centres) ICTS Ireland.
Third Prize (£100) won by Miroslav Zori (Data Centres) ICTS UK.
World Day for Safety and Health at Work was also marked across our contracts.
Olu Olojo-Kosoko, Health & Safety Support Manager, ICTS UK met our Team at the United Colleges Group (UCG) and presented to the team the impact of climate change on the way we work and the ways to mitigate the effect.
A question-and-answer session followed Olu’s presentation which resulted in an informative discussion among the staff. Following the session, staff were treated to a team lunch.
Eoghan Dobey, Health & Safety Support Manager, ICTS Ireland writes, “In the data centre environments in Ireland, a series of ‘game days’ were conducted to ensure that our security teams’ response to potential emergency situations were appropriate. Several data centre security teams (across both days and nights) were tasked with responding to a ‘person-down’ scenario in data halls with the emphasis being on responding with the correct equipment and in the correct way to ensure that in a real scenario, the severity of an incident may be mitigated.
Also covered, were questions that our security teams should ask themselves before performing any tasks, such as ‘Does this task have a related procedure that accounts for safety?’ and ‘Have I been appropriately trained to perform this task?’. This was aimed at ensuring that our teams are confident in their abilities to complete a task correctly and safely.
(13-17 MAY 2024)
Thank you to all who took part in our Walking week. As a team, we collectively walked an amazing 705 miles! That’s the equivalent of walking from Southampton to Aberdeen (via Bristol, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh).
As a thank you for taking part, all participants have been issued with a coffee shop gift voucher as a token of our appreciation.
The team who walked the furthest was Aberdeen Airport. In their name and yours, ICTS is donating £705 worth of toys to a wonderful Aberdeen-based charity called The Archie Foundation.
The Charity was formed in 2000, to support the build of a new Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital. It started with a simple mission – to make a difference for local sick children, providing much-needed extras not already catered for by the NHS.

Our ICTS teams had the opportunity to visit the Heathrow Safety Roadshows, which were taking place daily, both in airside and landside locations around the airport. This was further supported by other contractors from Heathrow. It was of great value to also see the attendance of ICTS staff at these locations, which demonstrates the importance of Team Heathrow and how we all collaborate together to drive a positive safety culture and a safe working environment for all our customers, colleagues and clients.
The efforts of all our managers, supervisors, drivers and our employees working together at Heathrow made for a very successful safety week and we look forward with commitment to supporting these initiatives in the future.

There have been some personnel changes at Glasgow Airport on 1 April 2024 Robert Horsburgh took on the role of Station Manager for Glasgow Airport and Andrew Clugston was appointed Compliance Manager. Earlier in March, Jemma Clark was appointed Compliance & Training Coordinator.
Our Team at Glasgow Airport is currently supporting next generation Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology for security screening equipment being deployed within airport security screening environments.
Project DARTMOUTH is the collaboration between Pangiam and Google Cloud, named after the 1956 Dartmouth Summer Research Project on AI. Project DARTMOUTH utilizes AI and pattern analysis technologies to digest and analyse vast amounts of data in realtime and identify potential prohibited items in carryon baggage, checked baggage, airline cargo and shipments. This exciting project is working in collaboration with our current next generation C3 equipment manufacturer, IDSS.
Sequestim is a joint venture between Cardiff University and QMC Instruments - established in 2016 to commercialise the next generation of terahertz imaging technology developed by the partners for security screening applications.
A super-sensitive passenger body scanner that reveals hidden security threats has been trialled at Cardiff Airport. The walk-through device applies space technology to image human body heat.
The result of a collaboration between Sequestim and Cardiff University scientists, the technology can distinguish between threats and non-threats without the need for passengers to keep still or remove outer clothing. It is currently deployed within our trial lane area supported by ICTS and Glasgow Airport.
Two new vehicles have been received by ICTS from our client to deploy within the security operation at Glasgow Airport.
These two new vehicles will help work towards our commitment to significantly reduce carbon emissions within aviation as both are fully electric (Volvo EX30s). Following some trial deployments and supporting documentation, the vehicles will be deployed for the wider operation.

“Representatives from across ICTS Europe have been working in collaboration, targeting growth across the Group. A two-day workshop in May provided us with the opportunity to share knowledge, discuss new initiatives and focus on the Data Centre, Pharmaceutical and Corporate sectors.
This is an exciting opportunity to utilise skills, share knowledge and experience across the wider ICTS Europe Group” wrote Peter McGowan, Strategic Client Director ICTS UK & Ireland.
Cluster Account Manager (Data Cen“Hi everyone, my name is Terry Steeples, and I am thrilled to introduce myself as the new ICTS Cluster Account Manager for one of our top Data Centre clients in Ireland. I joined ICTS in December 2023 and already find the role incredibly fulfilling.
Prior to joining ICTS, I had a distinguished 25-year career in the Irish Army, where I served as a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer. Throughout my military tenure, I specialised in various roles, including Military Police, Close Protection, and Military Diver (Frogman). One of my significant achievements was serving as the Chief Instructor for NATO leadership courses across Europe. In this capacity, I developed and implemented training programmes for personnel at all levels strategic, operational, and tactical, including both military ranks and civilian participants. I was a proud member of the NATO/PFP International Leadership team at NATO School Germany, where we prepared NATO personnel for overseas missions.
Additionally, I spent three years working as a Business Operations Manager, where I successfully transformed a major segment of the business from ‘breaking even’ to becoming the most successful part of the company.
My military career also included over seven years of deployment in international operations in regions such as South Lebanon, Liberia (West Africa), Bosnia, and Kosovo. These experiences provided me with extensive skills in effective communication, leadership, and operating in multicultural environments.
During my time in the military, I furthered my education by obtaining a Higher Diploma in Training and Education from NUI Galway and a Level 8 HDIP in Logistics and Business Management. Cont. on page 18.
Cont. from page 17. In my downtime, I enjoy staying active by hitting the gym or going for a run. I also love spending time with my kids and working in the garden, weather-permitting.
I am excited about my career with the ICTS Team and look forward to contributing to our mission of delivering high standards and professionalism to our clients in Ireland.”
We have been very pleased to welcome a new cohort of Apprentices to ICTS UK.
Mohana Ramachandran (Recruitment & Administration Apprentice) writes — “I was attracted to this role because it offers the opportunity to learn and gain valuable experience simultaneously. My daily tasks involve vetting and CTC administration, which I find both challenging and rewarding. So far, I am enjoying the learning curve and the chance to contribute meaningfully to the team.”
Ameerkhan Hassanzada (Payroll Apprentice) writes
“What attracted me to the role was the potential to grow and expand my knowledge, meet new people and build new connections. There is also the factor of problem solving which I was intrigued about.
My daily tasks include managing timesheets including excel expertise. “
Jessica Moss (Human Resources Apprentice) writes “What attracted me to work with HR is of course the people, I am very much a people person and find it very rewarding how we have a direct impact on staff, helping their wellbeing and potential issues they have. Moreover, seeing how you are directly contributing to the success of the business is incredibly fulfilling
Since starting my apprenticeship with ICTS I have had an exposure to a lot of different areas of the business whereby my knowledge has been enhanced hugely specifically with TUPE. I have recently started my learning, which in term will gain me level 3 CIPD qualification. I am finding this very interesting learning all different aspects of HR, which I may not have been exposed to as of yet. I very much look forward to my future with ICTS and seeing my progression!”
Kno Fridye (Marketing Executive Apprentice) writes I was originally attracted to this position because of the company’s belief on continous learning for all employees. This resonated with me due to the role being a career change that I had been trying to make for a while. So far, I’ve toured company facilities and started creating a backlog of media for the company socials. I’m looking forward to helping increase the company’s digital presence.”
“Jed Marshall joined ICTS in June of 2007 as one of the founding members of the Canine Division. Over the years the Division grew, evolved, and eventually became one of the country’s foremost Canine Providers. The reputation for quality, and strong moral compass, was what set ICTS UK Canine apart, all of which was driven by Jed’s leadership.
Kehinde Obafemi-Ajayi (Ealing Hammersmith and West London College)
We wish Kehinde a very happy retirement and thank him for his contribution to ICTS. He will be missed by his colleagues.
Kehinde joined ICTS in 2008 as a Supervisor based at Ealing Hammersmith and West London College.
Jed was not only a fair leader, but a strong role model for many of us, and he believed in developing people. Something he did with great success. He also told incredible stories!
Over the past few years, and especially the past few months, Jed has overseen a number of changes in the Canine department, and been the anchor point in his role as Subject Matter Expert, ensuring continuity, and passing on his invaluable knowledge. For that alone, we cannot thank him enough.
Jed has decided that now is the time to hang up the dog whistle, put away the dog leash, and finally learn to play golf.
I am sure that everyone who worked alongside, for, and with, Jed, will wish him all the very best in his welldeserved retirement.”
- Karyn Allen, Head of Canine Security Services.
Happy retirement, Diesel! (Explosives Search Dog)
We all wish Diesel a happy retirement and are pleased to say that he will stay within the ‘ICTS family’ - he is going to live with John Graham (ICTS Explosives Detection Dog Manager).
Diesel is an 11-year-old black and white Springer Spaniel who joined ICTS Handler, Jason Kirby in 2015. Jason and Diesel began their 9-year journey together by training with the Surrey Police. The pair were one of the first to obtain the Home Office’s NCTAS-P accreditation, for Explosives Detection Dogs (EDDs) and their Handlers.
Jason and Diesel have worked together in a variety of settings: from Canary Wharf, to the Eastenders’ Albert Square film set, red carpet events and the last Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham in 2022 etc.
Jason has worked with several detection dogs, since joining ICTS in 2008, following a 22-year career in the army and says, “Diesel is one in a million and it will be very hard to replace a dog of his standard.”
When Jason was asked what he believes Diesel’s most noteworthy characteristic to be, his reply was “his lack of interest in wildlife and other dogs!”
We look forward to receiving news of Diesel as he enjoys his retirement with John. Jason will be working with Explosive Detection Dogs, Flo and Batch.
When did you join ICTS?
I joined ICTS in 2007, initially as a dog handler. I then became a trainer, and eventually a manager, before transferring to ICTS Europe as the K9 Technical Officer for the ICTS Group. I ‘came home’ to ICTS UK in March of this year.
What do you enjoy most of your job?
I like to tell people that I get to play with dogs all day so what is not to love about it. But the reality is that the role is much more than that, and what I really enjoy is watching, and helping others to develop and succeed.
What key attributes make someone successful in your role?
Passion for what you do, a sound moral compass, drive and enthusiasm, and that all-important ICTS DNA.
What is your favourite pastime?
It will sound like a cliché – but dogs! I have my own dogs at home that I do competitive sports with, go hiking and camping with, and practice my training skills on. And a recent development is gardening – although green fingered I am not yet!
What has been your greatest achievement?
Professionally – successfully managing a high profile innovation project through from inception to completion.
Personally – watching students of mine grow into successful handlers, trainers, managers.
If you were not a Canine Security specialist, what type of career would you choose?
If it couldn’t be something animal related, I would probably quite like to learn more about technology and innovation.
joined ICTS in May 2024 and after going through successful security training I was offered a job as a Security Agent on United Airlines contract. It was a wonderful experience with a professional trainer who gave absolute acquittance regarding security procedures. I thoroughly enjoyed it motivated to perform my duties as allocated. The management is absolutely helpful as and when required. After a year in service I was given the opportunity to travel to New York for a course to train as a Ground Security Coordinator for West Indies Airline. I flew to New York on 14 August 2005 and successfully completed my training. I greatly appreciate my senior managers who gave all the assistance and guidance as when and where I needed it. I never planned to stay for 20 years, it is only because of the goodwill of the management and dedicated team that I am still working with ICTS. It has been a fantastic journey. Thank you.”

My journey with ICTS started in April 2004 as a Security Agent with American Airlines at London Heathrow Airport. Throughout the last 2 decades, I have thoroughly enjoyed working as an Agent and had the opportunity to progress to the role of Supervisor, then to Operations Controller with Virgin Atlantic and Delta Air Lines. I have also been privileged with so many other opportunities within the organisation, working in Bristol, Luton, Stansted, Glasgow, and Edinburgh Airports, as well as other projects in Southend-On-Sea, Folkstone, and Southampton. 20 years of hard work and dedicated service have been both a privilege and a profound learning experience for me as I have worked alongside some of the most talented and supportive individuals in the industry.
Becoming a Duty Manager has been my greatest achievement and fills me with immense pride and gratitude, as it is a testament to the recognition of my dedication and hard work over the years. I would like to thank my senior management team for the opportunity and for allowing me to contribute meaningfully and progress my career with ICTS. Their leadership has been instrumental in steering me to success, and I am grateful for the trust they have placed in me over the years. I also wish to extend my thanks to my fellow Duty Managers for their continuous support, guidance, and encouragement. Their dedication to teamwork and professionalism has been a constant source of inspiration for me.
I look forward to continuing to contribute positively to the team and I am dedicated to upholding the standards of excellence that ICTS is renowned for.”
Long-serving employee Tejinder Kaur has marked her 20-year anniversary at ICTS. She joined the company in 2004 as a Security Agent and during her tenure spanning two decades she has demonstrated dedication, passion, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. She has been the cornerstone of her wider team, consistently showing exceptional professionalism and integrity.
She said of her career: “My colleagues and managers have been supportive of me during the good times as well as the hard. I really enjoy working here and hope I've still got a few more years left in me yet!”
I started working for ICTS in 2004 as an Aviation Security Agent on US-bound flights and moved on to Hold Baggage Screening (HBS) 6 months later where I have stayed for the last 20-years. I progressed from Security Agent to Supervisor, and I am now a Senior Supervisor overseeing a team of 12 at Edinburgh Airport.
I have seen many changes over the last 20 years within aviation security and most recently the new baggage hall system being fitted in Edinburgh with the implementation of 3-D screening.
I have enjoyed the last 20 years and have met some of the most interesting people, who have become lifelong friends not just co-workers. I look forward to what the next few years have to offer with ICTS.”

Throughout his career at ICTS LGW, Jose has been a valuable support for many contracts outside of the boundaries of Gatwick Airport; from Southampton Airport to Belfast Airport, supporting at the G8 Summit and various Amazon contracts from Central London to the South coast.
“Sunanda joined ICTS at London Gatwick in 2004 as part of our team specialising in American flights She worked on flights such as US Airways, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Continental and Northwest before several of these airlines merged. In 2008, Sunanda, or Sue as she is known to her colleagues, joined the Hold Baggage Screening (HBS) team in Gatwick South Terminal. Since 2008, Sue has supported the operations for WestJet and Air Canada Rouge as part of the check-in team. Warm congratulations on this milestone from all the members of the ICTS Gatwick operations.”

The Customer Service Star scheme runs alongside our Employee(s) of the Quarter/Year scheme and Safety Culture Awards. The scheme has been established to recognise those employees who deliver excellent customer service to such a level that a client or a member of the public takes the trouble to write/post a commendation about the service delivered. This scheme goes a small way to say thank you and recognises all those very important customer service interventions by many of our employees.
Employees are asked to email a copy of the feedback to our HR Team—hr@icts.co.uk.
A reminder about the scheme: all staff members below the level of Site/Station/Dept. Manager are eligible for this award. We will allow a maximum of 6 winners in a quarter with no minimum number of winners being required.
Each winner will receive a sum of £/€500. Should we not have a total of 6 winners in a quarter, the excess funding will be placed in a pot and will be allocated to the Employee of the Year’s charity of choice.
We are looking for employees who have done something exceptional that is worthy of recognition.
Nominations are to be sent via email to: eom.nominations@icts.co.uk together with any supporting documents
Please note that the deadline for submissions for each quarter is as follows:
31 March Quarter 1
30 June Quarter 2
30 September Quarter 3
31 December Quarter 4
All 2024 winner(s) of the Employee of the Quarter make up the shortlist for the Employee(s) of the Year 2024 award, who will receive £/€5,000 (gross) and a lapel pin.
This scheme is open to all our employees. Nominations for the quarterly awards should be forwarded (by their Manager) to the Business Assurance Department with a brief outline as to why the nominee should be considered for the award. Please email: safetycultureawards@icts.co.uk
There is quarterly Safety Culture Award and the winning nominee will receive a cash prize of £100 (net) or €100 if in the Republic of Ireland. This will also qualify you for an automatic nomination for the prestigious ‘Safety Culture of the Year Award’. The winner of which will be awarded £1,000 (net) or €1,000 if in the Republic of Ireland.
It is the ongoing efforts of our employees that makes such a difference to the safety of our staff, friends and colleagues. I would very much like to thank you for your continuing support to drive our positive safety culture here at ICTS.
Congratulations to Charlie Howden from our Canine Security Division who has been awarded our very first Q1 Safety Culture Award.
Charlie, who is a FREDDs (Free Running Detection Dogs) Handler, has been selected for highlighting the risks from large, unsecure cargo bins blowing around the busy airport cargo site she was working at. The bins caused damage to her vehicle and could have potentially seriously injured people who were working onsite during a storm at the end of January.
Charlie raised her concern and her prompt actions ensured the client was informed and corrective actions were taken to secure the large containers. Toolbox talks were later given to warehouse staff of the potential risk in high winds.
Well done, Charlie and thank you for your contribution.
Winner(s) of the Safety Culture Award will receive £/€100 (net) bonus.
Congratulations to our Employee of the Quarter: Raj Bhatt, Infrastructure Manager (IT Dept).
Raj was nominated by Cathie Flood, ARC (Alarm Receiving Centre) Manager, for Raj’s exceptional dedication and hard work at ASM over the past year.
Raj has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to ensuring the smooth operation of our monitoring platforms, often sacrificing his personal time to resolve critical issues.
Many congratulations, Raj and thank you for your dedication and contribution to the success of ICTS
Winner(s) of the Employee of the Quarter award will receive £/€500 (net) bonus and a lapel pin.
“I am thrilled and deeply honoured to be recognised as Employee of the Quarter and grateful to Cathie for nominating me.
This acknowledgment of my hard work at ASM over the past year is incredibly motivating.
Thank you for this honour; it inspires me to continue contributing my best to our team and organisation.”
In a heartwarming display of solidarity, our Security Teams came together to support those in need by donating to the Hammersmith and Fulham Food Bank, part of the Trussell Trust network of food banks. With food insecurity on the rise, this outpouring of generosity highlights the power of community to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. From canned goods to non-perishable items, every ICTS contribution played a crucial role in providing muchneeded assistance to families facing difficult times.
As a business, ICTS continues to explore ways to make a difference to the communities in which we operate and to support grassroots charities.
