A MESSAGE FROM THE MD, ANDY KYNOCH

We have all witnessed extraordinary events in recent times and this year has been no different.

Our company has had to be proactive and resilient in every aspect to support our clients as we, and they, emerged from the effects of the pandemic.

Despite the challenges within the labour market, we managed to attract over 1,000 new members of staff across both the Aviation and Corporate Security Divisions within a relatively short period. This has been a tremendous effort by all concerned and we continue to welcome new employees to our ranks.

I have always been of the opinion that the harder you work at an issue or topic, be it revision for exams or a sports game or whatever, then the more you will get back from it, the more you will succeed. Failure is never an option.

Our teams across the company have worked indefatigably all year and that has allowed us to stabilise as a company before continuing to grow.

At the core of the rebound has been the collaboration and teamwork of all our staff and it was fantastic to see we won the Security Team of the Year at the Security & Fire Excellence Awards. Our CyrusOne staff exhibited the same core theme that runs through the company: our willingness to be the best at everything we do and to help each other at all times.

Our Aviation teams are growing from strength to strength. This is particularly true at London Heathrow Airport, where our presence and responsibilities have expanded.

Within these pages are more examples of the spirit that has come to the fore this difficult year within all ranks of ICTS staff in the UK and Ireland and I want to thank each and every one of you for what you do each day.

With that said, lets all look forward to the challenges that 2023 might bring but in the meantime may I heartily wish you Season’s Greetings and a very Happy New Year.

As usual, I will end with, “take care, stay safe and keep warm.”

- Andy

Many congratulations to ICTS Handler, Mark Deaney and Explosives Detection Dog, Gunner. Mark was nominated by Andy Dodds (Divisional Director of Canine Security) for the Outstanding Security Dog Handler category at this year’s WCoSP Awards.

An extract from the nomination: “Mark is an exceptional Handler and Security Professional who raises the bar within our Industry. He invests in his career and is best-in-class; Mark and Gunner’s NCTAS-P accreditation and the manner in which he responds to serious incidents demonstrates this.

Mark has transferred and maintained his First Aid skills and equipment used as a First Responder, to enhance the services he currently provides as an Explosives Detection Dog Handler. His desire to help those in need by being the first to dive into difficult situations is admirable and makes a difference to the environment in which ICTS operates.”

ANOTHER RECORD SIA ACS SCORE FOR ICTS (UK)

ICTS (UK) is delighted to have received a score of 144, out of the maximum score achievable of 145 points. This follows the SIA Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS) audit which took place over four days in July during which the auditors visited our London headquarters and several ICTS’ sites of operation within the Corporate, Data Centre and Healthcare sectors.

We were audited across all the seven criteria: Strategy, Service Delivery, CRM, Financial Management, Resource Management, People and Leadership. The auditors met with our clients, and our personnel holding a variety of roles across the business.

Ashley Fernandes, Executive Director – Corporate Security, ICTS UK & Ireland commented, “We are absolutely delighted to maintain our previous high score, keeping us firmly at the top of 1% of ACS-accredited companies in the UK. Whilst it was rewarding to hear that the auditor noted that our staff spoke of ICTS as “like a family” which supported them, buoyed them up, etc, it is clear that achieving this score again would not be possible without our People making ICTS the success that it is.”

This is the seventeenth year that ICTS UK has been part of the SIA’s Approved Contract Scheme.

WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 10 OCTOBER 2022

We all have mental health; it is important that we acknowledge that mental health difficulties exist in our lives, families, workplaces, and communities. There are things we can all do to look after our mental wellbeing.

On World Mental Health Day (10 October 2022) we shared via our website and LinkedIn page, some selfcare tips to aid good mental health. These tips were received from our ICTS Employee Assistance Programme. Click on the following image to learn more. The wellbeing of our employees is a priority - all year round.

ICTS UK & IRELAND PLEDGES SUPPORT TO PREVENTION OF SUICIDE CAMPAIGN

ICTS UK & Ireland has lent its support to help reduce suicides by signing a pledge to the covenant created by the Security Consortium for the Prevention of Suicide (SCPS). The pledge commits ICTS UK & Ireland to working with the SCPS to help raise awareness of the issue and share information within its organisation and the wider Security Industry.

The SCPS was founded in 2022 by Vicki Vidler and is a network of security organisations operating in both the public and private sector dedicated to preventing suicide. The consortium is guided by a panel of experts in suicide prevention that includes representatives from the National Police Chiefs Council Suicide Prevention Group, City of London Police, The Worshipful Company of Security Professionals and The Samaritans. Membership is based on shared values and each member signs up to the consortium covenant.

Ashley Fernandes, Executive Director – Corporate Security, ICTS UK & Ireland said, “Our industry has an important role to play in suicide prevention. Very often security officers are the first people to spot someone behaving unusually and will be the first responders to go to help someone in need. As a sector, we need to encourage conversations around mental health within the workplace, provide support, training and together seek new ways to work towards combating suicide. This initiative by the SCPS is an excellent starting point and one that ICTS is proud to get behind and support.”

THE AVIATION SECURITY SUPERVISOR COURSE, LONDON, 31 OCTOBER – 4 NOVEMBER 2022

Upon request of ICTS UK, a demanding, tailor-made Supervisor Course of five days duration took place in London Heathrow in November. The course facilitators were Ilan Weinmann and Enno Geissler of the ICTS Europe PQCT department.

Five out of the eight Supervisor candidates came from London LHR, two from Manchester, and one from Edinburgh station. All of them were veteran airline security specialists, with airside security expertise.

The course facilitators consulted with several of the trainees’ managers, to tailor the course to their expectations and the needs of the participants. Accordingly, a uniquely motivating learning experience unfolded, rich in roundtable discussions, practical exercises, and group work.

During the course, five ICTS UK managers came to the classroom, to convey their messages, respond to questions, and provide positive reinforcements. These acts were appreciated by all and demonstrated to the new Supervisors the professional commitment and leadership of their managers.

All the eight participants completed the course successfully. Their feedbacks were exceptionally positive. In particular, the teaching and learning methods, the general professional level of the course, and the course facilitators gained 100% satisfaction rates.

“Exciting Amazing Exceptional Professional High quality... The best training…” are just some of the attributes of the newly certified Supervisors’ feedback.

ISO 26000 - SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY GUIDANCE STANDARD

Congratulations to Caroline Atterton, CSR & Business Assurance Systems Coordinator, who has successfully passed the ISO 26000 Introduction course. This course enables one to comprehend the fundamental concepts of a Social Responsibility Programme (SRP).

By attending the ISO 26000 Introduction course, one will understand the importance of a Social Responsibility Program and the benefits that businesses, society and governments can obtain.

WELCOMING NEW STAFF

Hello! I joined ICTS in October 2022, having come over with the AWS contract as the Cluster Account Manager. I bring with me just over 20 years experience having started off as a retail relief officer many moons ago! I have a passion for the industry and enjoy the “no day is the same” environment that it brings but my real motivation is being able to mentor and assist others to succeed in the industry whilst meeting the everyday challenges.

Away from work I have my hands full with 3 daughters, a son and 2 dogs. I live by the sea and enjoy nearly all water-sports and boxing.”

HELEN BLACKLAW (STATION MANAGER AT GLASGOW AIRPORT)

“My name is Helen Blacklaw and I joined ICTS as Station Manager at Glasgow Airport on 24th October 2022, reporting to our Regional Manager, Louise Cameron.

My aviation security career spans over 3 decades and commenced in May 1998 as a seasonal security officer at Glasgow International Airport with BAA.

My idea of a security officer at an airport was walking the perimeter fence with a dog. How wrong was I... But I took it all in my stride and worked my way up through the ranks, from seasonal Security Officer to Security Trainer, taking on roles such as Security Supervisor and Security Duty Officer en route.

Helen Blacklaw cont.

I left Glasgow Airport in December 2008, and took myself out to Iraq, where I was placed in the role of Terminal Manager for Baghdad Airport initially, moving onto Mosul Airport and finishing my time managing Najaf Airport. A very interesting and successful 2 years in a very arduous environment.

On my return to the UK, I was lucky enough to secure the role of Site Security Representative (SSR) with Redline Assured Security, client based, working within United Parcel Service (UPS) in the Cargo world, a role that I held for the last 11 years until moving on to ICTS.

For those of you who do not know much about cargo, it is very different to the passenger search world, but at least you don’t get stressed or anxious packages!!

I played a major role in UPS being awarded our SeMS, phase 2b, which I know Glasgow Airport has achieved and look forward to ensuring the robust security culture remains within ICTS.

In my downtime and away from work, I am engaged to a lovely partner and best friend, (wedding postponed so many times), 3 children, 2 grown up and moved out, and 4 grandchildren, and that is just my side, add on another 4 children and another 5 grandchildren, babysitting is my other job!”

CALUM WILLINS (COMPLIANCE MANAGER AT GLASGOW AIRPORT)

I came into Aviation in 2017 after beginning my career in Oil and Gas and moving into Corporate Security Management. I began as a Security Compliance Coordinator at Aberdeen Airport before progressing to an Airport Duty Manager role. When ICTS took over the contract for AGS Security in 2019 I came across as Operations Manager for Aberdeen Airport, assisting in the Station expansion from Central Search and Access to include Hold Baggage and Control Room operations as well as setting up and running the successful Covid Test Centre. In December 2021 I was offered an opportunity to move to Doha, Qatar as Security Regulations Manager for Qatar Airways. After a brief stint in the Middle East I returned home in 2022 and took a contract role with Amazon Web Services before deciding that I wanted to return to Aviation and I accepted the role of AvSec Compliance Manager for ICTS at Glasgow Airport.

I am excited to return to a company I have great memories working with previously and looking forward to settling into the management team and assisting with the Glasgow operation.”

When did you join ICTS?

I joined ICTS at the beginning of June 2022.

What do you enjoy most of your job?

I come from a HR generalist background, this means that I have a lot of knowledge and experience in all things related to HR. At ICTS I have the pleasure of working with a great team, where I run HR projects specifically for the business. This means, as and when there is a requirement for me to pick up a project, I roll my sleeves up and I get stuck in. I recently worked on a large mobilisation project for our Data Centre Division (Corporate Security), where I worked alongside the operation supporting the transfer of employment to ICTS of hundreds of officers. I got to see things through from start to finish, which I found really rewarding.

What key attributes make someone successful in your role?

HR is a fast-paced environment, you need to have the ability to be agile & work well under pressure. Resilience is key, it is also important to have a positive mindset & the ability to gain trust to create strong working relationships within the business and operation.

What is your favourite pastime?

I have just taken up Yoga, which I love. I also enjoy walking my dog up on the North Norfolk beaches with friends & family when I get the chance.

What has been your greatest achievement?

Personally, it will have to be beating breast cancer. Earlier this year, I was given the all clear after 5 years battling the disease. Jo 1 – Cancer 0 !!

EMPLOYEE OF THE 3rd QUARTER

FROM OUR AVIATION DIVISION: FARHAN AHMED

Congratulations to our EoQ from Aviation: Farhan Ahmed from London Gatwick Airport.

The Air Transat Representative team work under immense pressure to meet the high expectations of the airline and all do a phenomenal job. Farhan has recently had a multitude of challenging flights to manage as a Air Transat Rep and has managed each in a very professional and calm manner and has shown that he has grown into the role.

Farhan has had many issues to deal with under the incredible pressure, which the role demands, and has helped to minimise delays and their impacts, as well as ensuring Air Transat customers are served in the best possible way. He has had to contend with late inbound aircraft, fuelling and catering delays as well as cleaning delays, even going as far as cleaning the A/C himself, to help reduce the impacts to the airline, until the cleaners arrive to take over. His attention to detail is exceptional and his reports to Air Transat HQ and to the TS Regional Manager have been noticed for their high quality.

Farhan -

I am honoured to have been nominated for this award.

I have been with ICTS for 5 years, starting as a HBS Agent and I expanded my skills into the role of Air Transat Representative, as well as a document checker for our Canadian Airlines.

In security and customer service, I have always tried to go above and beyond, to work to the standard that is expected of me and to overcome different challenges, whilst delivering excellent service to our passengers and clients.

I am able to achieve this standard thanks to the guidance and support from my colleagues and management and I take pride in being part of the ICTS London Gatwick Team.”

EMPLOYEE OF THE 3rd QUARTER

FROM OUR CORPORATE DIVISION: MICHAEL P O'SHAUGHNESSY

Congratulations to our EoQ from Corporate: Michael O'Shaughnessy from American Express (AMEX).

Michael has been nominated for his outstanding commitment to this role and the team at AMEX. Michael has continually run his site with the client and his team in mind. He had recently moved his own time off, so we could cover some long-term sickness without resorting to external assistance.

Winner(s) of the Employee of the Quarter award will receive £/€500 (net) bonus and a lapel pin.

Michael -

I am very grateful for receiving the Employee of the Quarter Award and I would like to thank the person/ persons responsible for giving me this award. But I cannot forget the support that has been offered to me by my colleagues and my supervisors. They have supported me and given me a good working environment, and while this award is addressed to me, their efforts in making this possible should not go unrecognized.

Thank you everyone.”

Thank you to Manchester Airport for inviting Team ICTS to join them at the Greater Manchester Police Armed Forces Covenant Awards in September 2022.

ICTS is currently a Silver Award holder of the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme, and we are working towards Gold. HADRIAN’S WALL CHALLENGE (CISCO)

Jim Hill (Security Coordinator UK & Ireland—ICTS at Cisco), participated, along with our client at Cisco, in the Hadrian’s Wall Challenge – Walk for Oscar 2022.

The challenge was in memory of Oscar Airey who served in the Queens Life Guards from 1976 to 1990. Oscar’s favourite place was Hadrian’s Wall due to his keen interest in Ancient Roman History. The team hiked the length of the Wall from Newcastle to the Solway Firth in six days with all the monies raised going to the Household Cavalry Regiments Families Office in support of the families and children of Oscar’s beloved regiment.

ICTS was pleased to make a donation in support of the Hadrian’s Wall Challenge.

CHARITY DINNER IN AID OF LOCAL CHILDREN’S HOSPICE HAVEN HOUSE

London-based ICTS Business Development Manager, Paul Canal, held a fundraising dinner to raise money for local Children’s Hospice Haven House last September.

The event was attended by more than 70 people who raised over £2,000 for the worthy cause.

Paul first got involved when he was shown around the Hospice’s facilities by a young 12-year-old girl who was receiving end-of-life care. “I was simply overwhelmed by her acceptance and dignity, and am not ashamed to say that I wept quietly in the car on the way home to my two healthy children, feeling grateful and very, very fortunate.”

“A moment like that helps to bring life into a sharp perspective, and I vowed then that I would try to raise some money each year to make the children’s journey, and that of their parents and siblings, that little bit less worse.

Through a variety of initiatives over the last four years, including Charity Dinners, Christmas Cake Sales and Wanstead UpCycles, a bicycle refurbishment social enterprise, Paul has raised over £10,000 for the Children’s Hospice.

ICTS staff members who would like reserve one of a limited number of (un iced) Christmas Cakes are asked to email paul.canal@icts.co.uk. Cakes are to be collected, in return for a direct donation to the charity, from Tavistock House.

WELCOMING NEW AND RETURNING STUDENTS AS THE AUTUMN ACADEMIC TERM STARTS

Adam Webster (London Regional Manager for Corporate Security) writes, “St George’s University of London Freshers’ Week is a chance for all new and existing students to meet all associated classes, services, student societies and clubs. This allows the new students to meet most of the Campus Teams which allows them to feel more welcome and at ease when starting a new chapter in their education.

ICTS attended Freshers’ Week as we wanted to make sure students are aware of what the role of our Security Team is on Campus. It is important that students feel safe and know that the Security Team is available to discuss any concerns they have during their time at university.”

MARCO DESSENA (ICTS OPS SECURITY AREA MANAGER, VIRIDIAN SUPPORT TEAM) WRITES ABOUT HIS EXPERIENCE WORKING FOR ICTS AND THE LAST FEW MONTHS SUPPORTING THE UK BUSINESS GROWTH

Hi, I am Marco Dessena. My adventure with ICTS Italy began in 2007 as an Aviation Security Officer. During the years I became a Supervisor and then a Trainer. In 2017 I became a Regional Manager for the Amazon contract and I managed up to 10 sites, travelling all around Italy. During that time, I had the pleasure to collaborate with the UK QAT Team. I met Jon Morley and Liam Newhook at a Trackforce workshop and that was shortly followed by another training programme. These experiences led me to meet Mathew Cridge, Nicola Fearnhead and Chris Lean.

Currently I am part of the Viridian Support Team together with Jon. We support Viridian’s Chief Technical Officer, Gabriel Feldman who programmes the system. A huge thank you for including me on the Viridian team, and support implementation in all Europe. Viridian has given me the opportunity of working with a lot of ICTS people all over Europe, I would like to mention Margarita Miltiadous and Curtis Wright from the UK; it’s lovely to work with them. In Italy I support my mentor and manager, Luca Crevani in managing Data Centres, writing procedures and building ad hoc trainings with Paolo Scolamacchia, another great ICTS manager who has a bright future ahead I’m sure. When needed I also support Aviation, particularly our team at Pisa Airport, where it all started for me! I guess one never forgets one’s first love!

A short while ago I was asked if I could support Peter McGowan’s new Data Centre Division for about two months, that would mean transferring to the UK. It was a pleasure to accept, I have grown up in the UK and the idea to spend some time here was irresistible. Also, I had met Peter already in Prague for the ASIS conference and got to know him a bit, realising he is a great manager.

At the moment we are concentrating on the new start –up of a large global data centre. I am working closely with Chris Lean and Alexandru Ursan, the best Regional Managers I have had the pleasure and honour to work with. We are recruiting personnel for the new sites, writing procedures, post orders, site profiles and assisting the new data centre managers and guard forces onsite.

It’s great to be able to assist ICTS UK. New experiences, especially abroad can only enrich people; new work methods, ways of thinking, communication skills and much more to learn. A big thanks to Andy Kynoch, Ashley Fernandes, Peter McGowan, Chris Lean, Alexandru Ursan and all the lovely UK team that welcomed me here. Many thanks also to Shai Meirav, Boaz Derhy, Paolo Franceschini, Luca Crevani, and the Italian ICTS team that made this possible.

During these 15 years ICTS has made me grow professionally, allowed me to travel to many countries where I was able to meet exceptional people within the company. No matter the country, I have always felt at home thanks to the ICTS way of thinking.

One Team!”
