ICED* Heroes is an insert focused on giving our local heroes in and around the community a little more exposure, our second local hero is Marietjie Bothma, Actress, Motivation Speaker, MC and Artist. She’s been living in Vaal since 2000, she’s a woman, that’s never finished school, she didn’t know her birth parents and she lived on the streets for two years BUT her career is on the rise as a motivational speaker, actor and singer. Since her role in the King Pie advert, she has become more & more in demand, so we were lucky to grab a few minutes with strong willed & highly motivational person.

Franc: For people who don’t know who Marietjie Bothmais, how would you describe urself? Marietjie: Im know for the different languages I speak(Especially the ads ive done in zulu & sotho) , a local tv personality, an ambassador for Tourism, an international Motivaltional speaker and a MC. Franc:You are known for doing a lot of community work in the Vaal, especially with the youth, any upcoming events? Marietjie: I usually do my speeches on weekends if my schedule allows, & at the moment im working in conjunction with the SAPS & the Correctional Services, in chatting to rape victims around the vaal. Im actually attending a meeting this Saturday where we expect over 600 survivors, and basically I tell these women my life’s story and how I overcome all the hurt & pain to be where I am today, I try and give hope.I also explain all the processes I had to go through to realise it wasn’t my fault. And I had to overcome a lot, but I looked at my strengths, and that’s what I try and encourage others to do doesn’t matter whats your situation or what has happened to you, especially the youth! Franc: Im sure you’ve been asked this a lot,

but seeing you know so many local languages, which would you say is the sexiest? Marietjie: Hahahahaha! Ummm, Wow! Well honestly in my opinion, speaking would have to be Zulu, but singing, I would have to say Spanish, Portuguese & Italian, I just love the pronunciations Franc: What advice would you give to any of the youth out there that are thinking of also becoming motivational speakers? Marietjie: Well I’d say the first thing is to get yourself in order, accepting yourself for who you are. Talk about yourself & your past so you can help people. You have to be able to handle criticism, and never to stop learning, I learn every day from the people I help.But the most important thing to have, is passion for what you do. Franc: What big things can we expect from you this year? Marietjie: Im launching my brand this year that will include a perfume and a clothing line, that will help create work opportunities. My autobiography should also be coming out by December as well as a gospel CD, in different languages. And im in talks with producers of a special upcoming youth show. Franc: And if people want to know what events you’re doing, are you on any social media ? Marietjie: I am on facebook, and a I have a fan page where I let everyone know all the new dates of upcoming events and functions il be attending, and you can find me at Artist Marietjie Bothma Zulu Girl, artist A truly inspirational woman, and we trust she’s still going to go to bigger and brighter places, and it shows you, no matter who you are, what has happened, and where you’re from, you can achieve anything with hard work, passion & honesty!

Inni Bos InniBos is an arts festival hosting music, theatre, cabaret, children’s theatre, literature and the visual arts. More than 200 musicians, actors and artists present their talents at this family orientated festival which attracts more than 100 000 visitors annually. Approximately 200 art and craft stalls and food stalls, restaurants, beer gardens and a children’s entertainment area can also be found on the festival terrain. Innibos het die hoofverhoogprogram vir Innibos 2015 vandag bekendgemaak. Die aandkonserte op die Standard Bank-verhoog is vir vele feesgangers die hoogtepunt van hul fees. As gevolg van die feit dat die feeshekke by verlede jaar se fees om 19:00 op die Saterdagaand gesluit moes word omdat die terrein tot kapasiteit toe vol was, het die feesbestuur besluit om die kaartjieverkope vir die feesterrein vanjaar vroeër te open sodat voornemende feesgangers reeds vroeg in die jaar hul kaartjies kan koop om seker te maak dat hulle wel die konserte sal kan bywoon. Kaartjieverkope vir die Innibos-feesterrein, wat die aandkonserte op die Standard Bank-hoofverhoog insluit, open op Maandag 2 Maart 2015 by Computicket. Kaartjies vir die feesterrein sal vanaf 2 Maart by Computicket beskikbaar wees. Omdat die ekonomie maar oral knyp het Innibos besluit om die toegangsfooie vir 2015 dieselfde as verlede jaar te hou. Daar is egter elke aand ‘n goue sirkel beskikbaar vir diegene wat verseker wil wees van ‘n sitplek in die voorste gestoetes! Vanjaar begin die fees met die Huisgenoot Afskopkonsert wat op Woensdagaand 1 Julie om 18:00 begin. Die tema van hierdie opwindende konsert pas goed by Innibos se tema vir 2015 “Innibos – die fees met hart”. Nadat die storielyn aan my deurgegee is het ek die liedjie so probeer skryf dat daar ‘n relevansie tot die film sou wees. Ek was op toer en onthou die aand toe ek buite op die stoepie van die gastehuis gesit het in Hoekwil naby Wildernes. ‘n Kersie het gebrand en die nag se atmosfeer het my weggevoer… daar is ALLES GEE geskryf ! Ek het ‘n rowwe selfoon opname vir Ben Ludik (Vervaardiger van die Hollywood in my Huis klankbaan) gestuur en later daardie week het hy my verras met ‘n boodskap dat die liedjie amper klaar vervaardig is … dit het my asem weggeslaan, want hy het my hart so mooi vasgevang!” – Joshua na die Reën Hollywood in my Huis is ’n romantiese komedie oor volwassewording, wat hom teen die agtergrond van ’n matriekafskeid in 2004 in Suid-Afrika afspeel. Die storie fokus op ’n gewone tienermeisie – Jana van Tonder (Christia Visser) – wat in ’n arm spoorwegbuurt saam met haar disfunksionele ouers woon. Toe sy egter op televisie sien hoe Charlize Theron haar ikoniese Oscar-beeldjie wen, inspireer dit Jana om haar matrieksafskeid wat voor die deur lê in haar eie Hollywood-rooitapyt oomblik te omskep.

Marilyn Monroe who is famous for singing ‘Diamonds are a girl’s best friend’, legally changed her name in 1956, and since became a world icon; here are some interesting facts you might not have know about Marilyn Monroe; 1. Although she was typecast as a dumb blond, she was extremely intelligent and had an IQ OF 168 and a personal library collection of over 400 books. 2. She was an early devotee of yoga, and was taught by a Swedish-Russian Bollywood film star that also taught Greta Garbo. 3. Depression ran in her family, her uncle and great grandfather both committed suicide, her mother Gladys was institutionalised. 4. The icon was so paranoid about sweat and spots that she washed her face up to 15 times a day. She would use olive oil on her face as a protecting agent. 5. Her masseur Ralph Roberts would often prepare her ice baths and Marilyn would add some drops of Chanel No5. 6. When Prince Rainier III of Monaco was looking for a wife, Marilyn was considered. In the end, he opted for Grace Kelly instead. 7.Marilyn featured on a USA postage stamp back in 1955. 8. Playboy creator Hugh Hefner paid £54 000 to reserve a crypt next to Marilyn’s. 9. Her long time love and previous husband, Joe DiMaggio, delivered a half a dozen red roses three times a week to her crypt for 20 years after she passed away. 10. She had a great love for animals, children and charity work. May you all have an iconic month!

Hollywood in my Huis gaan oor twee wêrelde – die mense aan die verkeerde kant van die spoorlyn en hulle ryk teenpole – maar dit gaan ook oor die fantasiewêreld waarin Jana leef. Hoewel Hollywood in my Huis ’n lighartige en prettige gesinrolprent is, het die uitdaging van die storie daarin gelê om ’n balans tussen die ligter en donkerder elemente te handhaaf. Van Rooyen se kinderdae in Silverton, Pretoria, was die inspirasie vir sy rolprent oor ’n jong tienermeisie wat groot drome droom en wat tot besef moet kom dat sy dapper genoeg moet wees om haarself te wees. Corne werk verskeie aspekte van sy persoonlike lewe in Hollywood in my Huis in. “Ek lyk Die draaiboek is ’n hele paar keer herskryf en aangepas. Van Rooyen beskryf sy kortfilm as ’n onskuldiger storie en sê dat hy die huidige vollengte weergawe van sy storie op ’n meer volwasse manier benader het. “Ek het altyd geweet dat my eerste rolprent ’n persoonlike verhaal sou wees. Ek put my inspirasie uit die liefde, my familie en om te dagdroom. Wie en wat ’n mens ook al word, dit bly jou familie wat jou voete vas op die aarde hou; by jou familie weet jy wie jy werklik is.” Die rolprent is hoofsaaklik in Vasco en by die Brackenfell Hoërskool geskiet. Sowat tien jaar gelede het die Afrikaanse rocken kontemporêre sanger en liedjieskrywer, Albert de Wet, sy toetrede tot die Suid-Afrikaanse musiekbedryf gemaak. Van 2006 tot 2012 het hy vyf albums vrygestel en treffers soos onder meer 7de Laan, Bang vir die Donker, 1924, Wat het gebeur by Aliwal-Noord? en Highway to your Heart opgelewer. ’n Lys van nominasies vir gesogte musiektoekennings het gevolg en hy het ook ’n paar van hierdie toekennings gewen. Dié prestasies hoort reeds vir jou te sê dat hierdie sanger van Pretoria meer as net jou deursnee-Afrikaanse sanger is. Sy talent is in beide Afrikaanse én Engelse musiek duidelik. This young man is set to light the heavy weight division on fire! He’s already 6 and 0 and with the help of team pitbull we foresee only great things for him!

Franc: What got you interested in MMA? Wessel: Hi Franc, Thank you for the interest. What got me interested was the pure mental and physical challenges that MMA poses. I have always respected fighters for the courage they have to step into a cage with an opponent to test their skills knowing full well the risks involved, I am always looking for a challenge so I decided to test my own courage. Franc: with so many fighters knowing so many different fighting skills, what would you say makes a well-balanced fighter, what skills should he have? Wessel: Fighters come from different fighting back grounds and are usually more skilled in a certain fighting style than another. You should at least be competent in most of the different styles and then capitalize on your strongest skills. The best fighters are specialists in multiple fighting styles which makes them a threat whether the fight goes to the ground or its kept standing Franc: Who would you say is your mentor and that’s helped you reach this level? Wessel: Definitely my two coaches Danie van Heerden and Walter Wendt. Franc: What belts do hold now and were they tough fights? Wessel: I am currently the world amateur champion, I won the world championships in Las Vegas last year and also the Fightstar heavy weight champion

which is arguably the biggest amateur promotion in Africa. My stand up skills are better developed than my ground skills and my last opponent has a formidable ground game, so if the fight went to the canvas it would most probably have been my toughest bout but fortunately I was able to keep it standing and finish with a KO Franc: Who do you think at the moment is South Africa’s best MMA fighter? Wessel: I would have to say Boyd Allen, he is very well rounded and pressure doesn’t seem to faze him. Franc: Team Pitbull is proudly Vaal, how many members do you guys have and how does one join if they’re interested? Wessel: We have about 30 members who train regularly.
