As some of you may know I was recently overseas to visit my folks, and I always love travelling because you get to see new places and experience different cultures but every time I land back in SA,the feeling of home washes over me every single time even with all our problems, South Africa is truly a magnificent country! I’d like to thank the ICED* crew who put in extra hours while I was away, especially Janneman, Poket Roket & Alwyn, you guys allowed me 2 truly relax knowing the mag was in good capable hands! So whats new in this issue? Well we have an awesome Dana Winner competition that’s happening and we’re also launching a brand new segment this month that’s replacing our poster. It’s our classifieds, so if you’re looking to sell or buy something, email us, we could help, and it’s absolutely FREE! We were also out & about this last month and took a lot of photo’s at your favourite venues, but if you’re not in the issue, please go onto our FaceBook page as all the photos will be uploaded there. National Womens ‘ Day National Women’s Day is a South African public holiday celebrated annually on 9 August. The day commemorates the 1956 march of approximately 20 000 women to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to petition against the country’s pass laws that required South Africans defined as “black” under The Population Registration Act to carry an internal passport, known as a pass, that served to maintain population segregation, control urbanisation, and manage migrant labour during the apartheid era. The first National Women’s Day was celebrated on 9 August 1994. In 2006, a reenactment of the march was staged for its 50th anniversary, with many of the 1956 march veterans.

Business in Review Hennie & Magda Storm: Owners of Club Guns and Roses Question 1: You are one of the better known entertainment venues in Sasolburg, what would you attribute your success to? To us, Club Guns and Roses would never have even been or even succeeded without the help of the One that we believe in the most. God has given us the opportunity to do something special with our lives and Club Guns and Roses is our “child”. We must help it grow and we believe that our success lies not only with us, the owners, but our loyal customers, whom has been there since the beginning. All the new friend we made since 2013. Our suppliers whom has always been there to meet with our “demands”. Thank you. Question 2: If someone didn’t know Club Guns and Roses, how would you describe it to them? Club Guns and Roses what our generation would say a typical night club that there used to be during the 80’s. An up class entertainment venue for any person whom is looking for a night out on the town. A venue where everyone is anyone’s friend. Spacious enough to accommodate large crowds but small enough to enjoy a cosy atmosphere. Spectacular, comfortable and a non-violent venue for all. We, the owners and our regular customers, does not tolerate unethical behaviour. Question 3: Where does the name “Club Guns and Roses” originate from? Guns ‘n Roses is one of our most favourite Rock Bands ever. We decided on this name because of this fact but also because of their song “Sweet Child ’o Mine”, which ones again refers to your first question about our success. It is our “child” and no other band or song describes more accurately how and what Club Guns and Roses really are to us.
Question 4: Club Guns and Roses had great local artist like Juan Boucher, wat can we expect in the future? We pride ourselves to say that we had artist like Juan (which will be performing again in October for the Club’s Birthday), Cordelia, Anton Myburgh and is looking at bands and artist like Van Coke Cartel, but if you want to stay informed, you can always visit our Facebook page. Question 5: It’s a well-known fact that the entertainment industry is under a lot of pressure, what make’s Club Guns and Roses stand out from the rest? Our prices are more reasonable. “Happy Hour” every night when we are open. We have an awesome dance floor, a wide variety of music and play 95% of all songs that our customers’ requests. We have dance-off ’s every Friday night at the same time (which you will only know if you visit Club Guns and Roses) where you can stand a chance to win a prize (and someone always does). Question 6: At what age do you think a person is too old to party? NEVER, we had couples that was over 70 and still enjoyed the good old school Rock ‘n Roll. Question 7: What is the greatest compliment you have ever received about Club Guns and Roses? That we are being compared to the “up-class” night clubs in the big cities like JHB and PTA. That this entertainment venue are simply out of Sasolburg’s league.

I am not sure if it is just myself, but seems the Universe is going through a mid-year crisis, everywhere around me I can sense individuals going through emotional and spiritual lows, I can see relationships on the verge of surviving , and I can see how the economy is effecting small to large businesses, which in retrospect effects the individual. If one lands up with a combination of these you sometimes ‘feel alone with no place to go’. But then we are reminded of the wise words of Thomas Jefferson from the United States Declaration of Independence and from one of the best films ‘Pursuit of Happyness’, is that: ‘We hold these truths to be sacred & undeniable; that all men are created equal & independent, that from that equal creation they derive rights inherent & inalienable, among which are the preservation of life, & liberty, & the pursuit of happiness’. Chris Gardner has realised as have many of us that through our life struggles and lessons is that one needs to pursue happiness into your life. As this is a mental state of awareness that needs to be put into practise consciously, here are some crucial moments from Chris Gardner’s life that can be adapted to advice for ourselves; Riding the Bus - The first thing we need to become aware of is that we will not get to our ultimate destination of happiness if we don’t get onto that bus, or into that vehicle or even by foot, but we need to keep moving forward. Sometimes we could chose the road less travelled, as in the words of Albert Einstein ‘ The one who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. Those who walk alone are likely to find themselves in places no one has ever been before.’. Whatever you do don’t miss the ride! Being Stupid - What would life be if we didn’t make any mistakes, there will be no purpose in living if we were to be so perfect, which means there will be no growth, no karmic lessons or balance, so ultimately we are here to make mistakes, and to learn from them. So it’s ok to be stupid once in a while. Remember a Master has failed more times than a beginner has tried.
Running - Don’t do what I do, when life obstacles becomes too much for me to bear, I just want to pack my boxes and run, or hold on I hate packing and boxes, so I just want to run. So instead of following my advice, follow Gardner’s example and run towards your problems and face it head on! Running shouldn’t do anything else than make you fit, and that should be it sole purpose! Internship - Always remind yourself that we are students in this life and that we are here to learn the art of living, of overcoming obstacles, growing, forgiving, to preserve life, to feel liberated, to pursue happiness and to embrace every moment thereof. So always do what you can as an individual to grow, read more books, learn from other people, give advice, and be kind. Remember when the student is ready the teacher will appear. Paying Taxes - If you want to be happy make sure you sort out your karmic debt with loved ones from the past. By the time you need to leave earth as a student you want to be sure your debt here is paid, and we need to remind ourselves that life doesn’t owe us anything, we owe life everything. Happiness - Happiness cannot be travelled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude, and to embrace everything second because the only thing constant in this life is change and nothing is permanent. May you pursue all that is happy this month!

Off the Ball Build up to the Rugby World Cup (RWC) 2015 After the Springboks game against the World XV, there has been lots of talk about how well the Springboks played. It was great to see a Bok team running the ball, creating gaps, running lines, making offloads and genuinely creating some brilliant tries. I supported the Boks with extreme passion as we beat the World XV. But is it a true and correct measure to rate the Boks against a team slapped together, whom only had a week to prepare? Well, I am of the opinion that we are putting the horse before the cart by saying we are ready for the RWC. Here are a few points, why I think we should wait and see. Pollard’s kicking was dismal in a game where he did not have any pressure on him. The Boks were far in front so the kicks not converted did not have an influence on the game’s outcome. It will be very different in the RWC. Matfield is a true legend and lineout genius but he lacks the physical presence in defence, carrying the ball over the advantage line as well as clearing the ruck. He spent most of the time between the backs, which will not help the Boks at play-off time in the RWC. Duane’s physicality will be missed if he is not ready for the RWC, because I am sure we can agree that he keeps 2-3 players busy when he is on the field. Lambie - What more must this kid do to win a permanent starting spot in a Springbok jersey? Pollard is a great talent but I believe that Lambie has proven himself through and through that he should be our flyhalf going into the 2015 RWC. The true test for the Boks, before the RWC starts, is on 25 July when the Boks play the mighty All Blacks at Ellispark. I am sure we can agree (and so does the bookies) that the All Blacks are the favourites going into the RWC. I will be at the stadium come the 25th, supporting the Boks like a mad man, full of pride because I am proudly South African. We can listen to our hearts but what does your head say about the Springboks chances in this year’s RWC?

Len Muller Len Muller - voorheen bekend as die voorsanger van die alternatiewe rock groep DieFoute – het aan die einde van 2011 besluit om ‘n solo loopbaan aan te pak. Hy het Richardsbaai vir Pretoria se liggies verruil en oor ‘n tydperk van drie jaar sy oorspronklike material geskryf. Len se eerste EP Album getiteld, Len Muller, is in 2012 by Wynand Delport produksies opgeneem en dieselfde jaar nog uitgereik. Die laaste twee jaar skryf en werk Len aan sy debuut album, DOODGEWONE AVONTUUR, wat amptelik op 27 Mei 2015 uitgereik is. Daar is tien splinternuwe liedjies wat vars, uitdagend en eie aan Len se skryfstyl is. Medeskrywers sluit die befaamde Stef Bos, Retief Burger (Luidkeels), Bouwer Bosch (Straatligkinders & Dans Dans Lisa), asook Jattie de Beer (Vertikaal & Dou Voor Dag) in. Die uniekheid van die nuwe album kan ook toegeskryf word aan die insluiting van verskeie ander kunstenaars (Stef Bos, Joshua na die Reën en Janie Bay) wat saam met Len op van die liedjies sing. Gedurende Augustus 2014 is een van die liedjies, ‘Smag na Jou’, landwyd aan radiostasies uitgereik en die reaksie was en is stééds oorweldigend. Die liedjie het op talle radiostasies se treffer parades gepryk en was ook vir verskeie weke op GrootFM se ‘Groot 20’’. Die konsep vir die musiekvideo van ‘Smag na Jou’ is geïnspireer deur die behoefte om die boodskap van die lied op die beste manier oor te bring, maar ook om vir Len Muller bekend te stel. Om hierdie begeertes ‘n werklikheid te maak was dit ‘n voorreg om saam met die baie kreatiewe span van Duck Soup Productions (www.ducksproductions.com) te werk. Jana van Deventer en haar man, Eugene, se sterkpunt is juis konsepontwikkeling en was hulle dus die perfekte vennote vir die vervaardiging van die musiekvideo vir ‘Smag na Jou’. Om Len se talent nog beter ten toon te kan stel was dit ‘n voorreg om saam met Raldo Mattheus (tjello- en basspeler), Fred de Meilon (trom speler) en goeie vriend, Leslie van Wyk (elektriese kitaar), te speel.
