The Power of the Uniform

What You Wear Matters More Than You Think.

Let’s be honest, uniforms don’t usually top the list of exciting workplace topics. But hear us out, because uniforms are basically the superhero costumes of the professional world. They may not come with capes (unless you’re in maintenance on a windy day), but they’re doing some heavy lifting behind the scenes.

First Impressions: You Only Get One

You show up looking sharp in your uniform—clean, tucked, branded—and right away, residents know they’re in good hands. They’re not wondering, “Is this guy here to fix my faucet or sell me something?” Nope. You look the part, because you are the part. And that truth is the Power of the Uniform: More Than Just Matching Shirts.

A Team That Matches, Stays in Sync

Uniforms also build team identity. When a resident sees three team members in matching gear tackling a big job, it says, “We’ve got this covered.” It shows professionalism, coordination, and pride in your work. You’re not just doing a job—you’re representing a standard.

Online Reputation Assessment

Our commitment to exceptional customer service is reflected in our leading ORA score. Our professional image, including our uniforms, should actively reinforce this #1 ranking and dedication to excellence.

Safety and Recognition

In a busy community, knowing who’s who matters. Uniforms instantly signal that your part of the trusted crew. Residents feel safer, coworkers know who’s on site, and managers breathe easier knowing you’re easily identified—even from across the courtyard.

So zip up, button down, and wear it with pride—you’re the face of Hawthorne, and your uniform is your badge of honor.

Your Feedback Fuels Change

At Hawthorne, we believe great ideas come from the people living the experience, and your feedback continues to shape how we work. Thanks to your input, the Software Support Team has rolled out two exciting updates designed to make your day smoother and your workflows simpler.

No More Closing the Leasing Week

You asked, we listened. The “Close the Leasing Week” function has officially been removed from Yardi. What This Means for You:

On Thursdays and Fridays, there’s no need to manually close the leasing week. That option is gone, along with the need to submit support tickets to reopen it. You can now complete move-ins and renewals without delay.

Quick Tip:

Keep your data up to date each week- this includes move-ins and move-outs, application approvals and denials, renewals, notices, make-ready status, and rent payments and fees.

Late Letter Memo Enhancement

Yardi now automatically adds a memo to a resident’s account whenever a late letter is generated. This runs daily, ensuring every applicable account is updated consistently, no extra steps needed from your team. *See Hawthorne Voices section of this newsletter for more details!

What’s Next?! Coming Soon: RentCafé Updates

RentCafé is getting a major upgrade! This powerful platform helps us lease faster and deliver a better experience for both residents and teams.

What To Expect:

We’re rolling out enhancements across RentCafé to make your day-to-day easier, streamline leasing, and boost resident satisfaction.

Stay tuned for more details as we launch these updates, and as always, you will receive training first. Every change will be explained step-by-step, with the Software Support Team by your side.

Time with HRP?

9 Months

What do you love most about HRP?

What energizes me most is the opportunity to collaborate across different departments and witness firsthand the genuine excitement and passion each team brings to helping our company grow. Each department has its own unique perspective and energy and being able to tap into that collective passion while contributing to our shared success is incredibly rewarding. I also thrive on the variety of challenges that come my way – no two days are the same, and I love that I’m constantly learning, problem-solving, and adapting to new situations. It keeps me engaged and pushes me to grow both personally and professionally.

What do you do outside of Hawthorne?

My world outside of work revolves around my beautiful family! I spend most of my time with my wife Jamie Lynn and our two little ones – Emma Grace, who is 2 and will be turning 3 this September, and Asher William, who is 1 and will be celebrating his second birthday in November. There’s nothing quite like watching them grow and discover the world around them. Every day brings something new –whether it’s Emma Grace learning new words and expressing her personality, or Asher William taking those wobbly first steps and exploring everything he can get his hands on. I’m constantly amazed by how quickly they learn and change, and I treasure every moment we spend together making memories as a family. From weekend adventures to simple moments at home, these are the times that truly matter most to me and remind me what life is all about.

If you had 3 wishes, what would they be?

If I had three wishes, they would all center around what matters most to me.

First, I’d wish for more time to spend with my family creating those precious memories – more lazy Sunday mornings, more spontaneous adventures, and more opportunities to be fully present for all of Emma Grace’s and Asher William’s milestones.

Second, I’d wish to worry less and truly live in the moment. It’s so easy to get caught up in the “what-ifs” and future planning that sometimes I miss the beauty of right now – like Emma Grace’s giggle or Asher William’s curious expressions.

My third wish would simply be for more time itself – time seems to fly by so quickly, especially watching the kids grow up. If I could slow down time just a little, I’d savor every stage, every conversation, and every family moment just a bit longer. Ultimately, all three wishes come back to being more present and intentional with the people I love most.

Five Star Resident Reviews

Egret Landing By:

Living at Egret Landing in Calabash has been a great experience. From day one, Sue, the Community Manager, along with Leasing Agents April and Michele, made me feel welcome and well taken care of. They’ve been incredibly responsive, professional, and genuinely kind—always quick to follow up and make sure everything was handled properly. As with any new construction, there were a few bumps in the road, but everything was addressed quickly and to my satisfaction. The two maintenance gentlemen, both named Ron, were fantastic. They showed up promptly, were courteous, and got things done without hassle. The community itself is very quiet, which I love. It’s peaceful here, and the area is really nice—clean, well-kept, and surrounded by friendly neighbors and great amenities. It’s the kind of place where you can truly relax and feel at home. We really enjoy sitting on our back patio watching the resident egret and ducklings in the pond. If you’re looking for a calm, welcoming place with a team that truly cares about your experience, I highly recommend Egret Landing. Plus, it’s close to many great restaurants, shopping and golf.

Hawthorne at the Pointe By:

Having been here since May of 2023, it has been a lovely time living here! Not only is the community beautiful with the nature trail, overall landscape, no smoking policy, and superb cleanliness of the area, but the team here is wonderful! Olivia and Kassidy do an amazing job with management! Both are so sweet, understanding, relatable and will get the job done with whatever you need help with! Andrew, Keat, and Dylan are some wonderful gentlemen with great humor, care, and amazing maintenance men all around! Just to say in all so I won’t write an essay here, this place is phenomenal! Recommend staying here if you love a clean community, enjoy community events, being able to walk within nature, and the quietness!

Meridian at Ten Ten By: Anonymous / Apartments.com

I am consistently blown away by the exceptional service provided by the maintenance team. They are incredibly responsive, often arriving to address issues within minutes of a request. Their professionalism is unwavering, and they are true experts who not only fix the problem but do so efficiently and thoroughly. They always go above and beyond, leaving the area cleaner than they found it. This level of dedication gives me genuine peace of mind and is a tremendous asset to our entire community. Thank you for your outstanding work!

Hawthorne at Bay Forest By: Anonymous / Apartments.com

As a military brat who moves regularly, this is one of the best locations I’ve been in. Like many, I work in the area and like to avoid traffic. The neighborhood is very nice and peaceful. The community is nice for singles and families. The pool area is VERY nice. The cookout area all around it, the TV in the back, the gaming all around it are better than every other apartment I’ve ever lived in. The indoor gym is very nice, and going during the lunch break, it is easy to be alone for those who do supersets. The indoor golf simulator and other gaming machine is great but one of the main benefits of the apartments is that it is just off of a golf course – The Bay Forest Golf Course - where you must live in La Porte to get a great discount on membership. Depending on the building you live in, you may even have a great view of some holes. The Management and Maintenance teams are very nice and helpful. Close to the water and great parks around. All around a great location.

Live It Stories

Douglas, a resident at Hawthorne at the Carlyle, hadn’t been heard from in some time, prompting concern from a close friend who came to the leasing office. Lisa Ross, the Community Manager, immediately went to check on him. When she arrived at his apartment, she couldn’t get in—the security deadbolt was locked from the inside.

Shortly after, Lisa learned that Douglas had suffered a shoulder injury and collapsed in his bathroom after his blood pressure dropped. He had been unable to get up or call for help and had been lying there for nearly 24 hours. Despite knowing he was inside—his phone could be heard ringing and the locks were still engaged—police initially said they couldn’t force entry due to policy.

Lisa refused to give up. She urged the officer to call the fire department and insisted that getting to Douglas was more important than any potential damage to the door. When firefighters arrived and broke it down, they found Douglas on the bathroom floor. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, underwent surgery, and is now on the road to recovery.

After returning home, Douglas visited the office to personally thank Lisa, telling her, “You saved my life.”

This experience is a powerful reminder that property management is about more than just maintaining homes. It’s about showing up for people, caring deeply, and being a lifeline when it matters most. That’s what it means to Live It.

Live Fit Tips

Make These Food Swaps for a Healthier You

In today’s fast-paced world, processed foods in wrappers and cans surround us. By making small changes, like swapping processed foods for whole foods, we can transform our health and well-being in big ways.

Why Whole Foods & Why They Are Better For You

A whole food is a food that is close to its natural, unprocessed state.

Five Benefits of Replacing Processed Food:

• Improve digestion

• Enhance energy levels

• Increased intake of healthy vitamins

• Reduces risk of chronic diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes

• Lowers high blood pressure

How Can You Spot The Difference?

Processed Food

• Contains five or more ingredients

• Added sugars, salt, and fats (trans & saturdated fats)

• Often found in the center aisles of the store

• Come in boxes, bags, or cans

Whole Foods

• Found around the perimeter of the store (produce, meat, dairy sections)

• Usually don’t have an ingredient list—or if they do, it’s one item (e.g., “Ingredients: almonds”)

• No added sugars or artificial flavors

Remember, fewer ingredients = better. Start with one small change—every swap counts. Your body will thank you, and it will be ready to take on the Fall Live Fit Challenge coming soon!

Hawthorne Voices

A key element of Hawthorne’s success is a continual improvement in our processes, programs, and company in general. These improvements can only happen with YOUR valuable feedback! While we cannot implement every suggestion that is submitted, we do review every suggestion. Below is a suggestion that was submitted that has now been put into place!

“Would it be possible to have Yardi set up to where it automatically puts a memo in a resident’s account whenever we send a late letter?”

Yardi has developed a custom task that will now automatically add a memo to a resident’s account whenever a late letter is generated. This enhancement will run daily and ensure the appropriate memo is attached to all applicable resident records once the scheduled task completes.

When generating late letters moving forward, you will want to check the box for “Attach Reports” as shown to the right.

This action will auto save the late letter under the resident attachment page as normal:

It will also automatically generate a memo with the date the late notice was sent , the type of late notice and the user generating the notice. This memo is going to auto default to “Collections” Memo type. This is necessary in order for the memo to reflect on the Resident Delinquency Summary w/Memo’s Report:

Resident Delinquency Summary w/Memo’s Report:

MANAGEMENT CORNER HAWTHORNE

Let’s Talk Talent!

Overcoming AI-Generated Resumes: Hire with Confidence

There is no denying that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping hiring — and that means over polished, exaggerated resumes are on the rise! But with the right strategies, we can hire the right candidates quickly and with confidence.

A recent Canva survey of 5,000 job seekers found 45% have used AI to create or enhance their resumes. That’s why it’s critical to:

• Read resumes closely for overly polished, generic language.

• Get candidates into in-person interviews early.

• Compare resume details with their real-time responses.

Ask better questions: Our new Interview Guides help you move past scripted answers with reallife examples. The interview guides also have questions specific to each individual position making it easy to gauge their actual skills and abilities.

Leverage references: Our Reference Check Guide goes beyond the traditional employment verification and asks questions that help uncover how reliable they are, how they work on a team and how they show up to work. Find the Reference Check Guide in UKG Learning!

Bottom line: AI is here to stay, but by digging deeper, asking smarter questions, and using our tools, we can hire people who are not just great on paper, but great in person!

In our most recent Webinar Wednesday, Zina Swisher shared more actionable strategies for navigating AI resumes and feeling more confident in your hiring to fill positions quickly! Click here to watch the recording!

What It Takes to Be a Great Leader

At Hawthorne, we believe leadership is about more than titles — it’s about how we show up for our teams, our communities, and our future. That’s why we’re spotlighting an inspiring TED Talk from leadership researcher Roselinde Torres: What It Takes to Be a Great Leader.

Drawing on 25 years of studying leaders around the world, Torres shares what separates good leaders from great ones in today’s world. She challenges us to ask ourselves three key questions:

• Am I looking around corners? — Anticipating change instead of reacting to it.

• How diverse is my network? — Surrounding ourselves with voices and perspectives different from our own.

• Am I courageous enough to leave the familiar behind? — Being willing to step into new paths that push us forward.

Her message is a powerful reminder that leadership is a practice of growth, courage, and connection — values we strive to live out every day at Hawthorne.
