Methodists (Continued from page 9)
the past 4 months during the discernment process, the church ultimately decided to join many other churches throughout the area and state and leave the United Methodist Church because of deep conflict within the UMC regarding issues of human sexuality. Although FUMC-Howe has voted to disaffiliate, several steps must occur before the action becomes final, including approval from the North Texas Conference, which is the United Methodist governing body for the region. The NTC will hold a Special Conference in March to consider approval of the churches within the NTC region wishing to disaffiliate at that time. In the interim, FUMC-Howe will consider its options moving forward, which could include joining a different Methodist affiliation or operating as an independent church. First and foremost, we intend to remain a faithful church at 810 N. Denny St. and
continue to worship, evangelize, and serve God as we have done for the past 100+ years in Howe. Our worship service is 10:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings, and we welcome anyone who wishes to join us for worship. Howe’s Methodist Church dates back to 1877 when a group began meeting in a home in west Howe. That same year, the First Methodist Church was built in Howe on East Haning Street, the first block across from the railroad on the southside of Haning Street. In 1909, the church relocated by building a new structure on the corner of Denny and O’Connell Streets. It consisted only of the sanctuary, which housed all the activities of the church, including Sunday School classes. In 1977, the First United Methodist Church of Howe relocated. A new facility was built about one mile north of town on Denny Street which included a sanctuary, classrooms, kitchen, and fellowship hall. Additional buildings were constructed in 1987 and 1991.

Submitted—XYZ Senior Group at First Baptist Howe met recently in Fellowship Hall of the church. Misty Adams Humphries with Reliant At Home Home Health and Hospice Services presented information about services provided, about the people who provide those services, and about the difference between those two services. Humphries’ extensive experience in the Health field was evident as she confidently answered questions about Medicare, insurance, oncology, caregiving, rehab vs. palliative care, and advance directives and Do Not Resuscitate papers. Being a woman of faith, Misty was helpful with her comments on when hospice is appropriate for a patient. The group appreciated her wisdom.
