Legend Bank invites Howe Chamber to celebrate in re-grand opening in Whitewright

Howe Chamber of Commerce board members Tom Defrange, Jared Coffey, Monte Walker celebrate with Legend Bank Branch President Brandon Grooms who cuts the ribbon on the remodel of the Legend Bank location in Downtown Whitewright. Photo by Randi Mitchell. Legend Bank of Whitewright recently renovated their location in the downtown area. The planning of construction first began two years ago just before the COVID shutdown in 2020. That put a halt on the project until April 2021 when the bank moved into a temporary building on the premises as construction began in May 2021. Employees returned to the renovated building this past January but Bank branch President Brandon Grooms says they were still doing final touches up until the grand opening on Thurs-

day afternoon. “I’ve got a lot of comments already about how well it looks in downtown,” said Grooms. “I think it makes a statement from Legend Bank to the community. We spent a lot of money on this.” Grooms said there were challenges with the renovation as construction prices and inflation moved the goal post throughout the process.

Howe real estate (Continued from page 1)

$400,000—$500,000 range. There were five closings in Howe in February which is an increase of 150 percent. The only thing holding Howe back from becoming the biggest boom town in the northern US 75 corridor is the lack in wastewater independence. Once the City of Howe is able to produce their own wastewater plant, one would imagine Howe would be no different from the swoon of growth in Collin County due to its location near Texas Instruments. When Howe agreed to send their wastewater to Sherman and tear down the sewer plant 54 years ago, it kept Howe from rapid growth. However, it also has placed a premium on Howe dirt as developers that would have rolled over Howe in the previous dec-

ade were forced to go elsewhere. Howe is the last frontier, and the prices reflect such. Developers that want to play in Howe are going to have to pay the high price by the square foot and perhaps be able to invest in infrastructure.

$633,101

One of the, if not the biggest asset for a micro town is the reputation of the school district and Howe is an ISD destination. This is in the forefront of city planners to continue to feed that system. If the real estate market is of any evidence, Howe has a very wealthy future despite the current financial status of the city due to past decisions. If players want to play in Howe, they have to be the big boys with deep pockets. The vultures might be swarming, but the vultures also clean the streets.
