SURGING UNEASINESS Real estate market continues to boom in Howe RisinggaspriceshittingmiddleclassAmerica

We are celebrating eight years of ownership of this publication this week. It’s hard to believe that it’s been that long; yet it’s also hard to remember having a Sunday off. In a month from now, I’ll surpass the number of Howe Enterprise editions my grandfather published. When starting this venture, we just wanted to spotlight the Howe kids and make sure the townsfolk knew what was going on. That’s still the number one goal. “Local, local, local”—as my former boss and Texas Radio Hall of Famer Bill Harrison used to preach. ***** Gas went above the clouds last Tuesday which may have been the reason it began to thunder at the same time sleet came down—sure are strange times. ***** With gas prices the way they are and the dollar tanking on the global market, we placed our toes into the Bitcoin water. Biden placed an executive order on cryptocurrency, therefore, feel free to send us some of them there air coins at the following: @howeenterprise. Early last week the weather was warm and FM 902 was littered with skunks and other varmints that became roadkill. With that came the vultures that circle the skies in search of such a new meal. The vultures are not the only creatures flying overhead as residential and commercial developers are swarming glide-for-glide in search of Howe soil sold by a decent price per square foot. Some of the commercial prices along US Highway 75 in Howe range from $3-to-5 per square foot in bulk purchases. Howe’s 2021 population is calculated now at

3,616 despite what the city limits sign reads from 15 years ago. A number of factors have led to significant increases in interest in Howe—the main of which being the Texas Instruments announcement in November. This has led to our current situation of the median home price on the market increasing by 46 percent from this time a year

ago. It takes (on average) 65 days for a home to hit the market before closing. That is 82 days less than a year ago. In price distribution, homes from $100,000— $199,999 make up 40 percent of sales with homes from $200,000— $299,999 make up another 40 percent. The final 20 percent comes from homes in the

Guns N More of Howe showcases new storefront

Members of the Keep Howe Beautiful Organization have announced that they will be the first organization to have a Freedom Rock to be placed in Grayson County and the first in the State of Texas. The Freedom Rock, which is a 60

-plus ton boulder, is to be placed at Memorial Park in Howe. The artist, Ray “Bubba” Sorenson II, was inspired by the movie Saving Private Ryan, as well as, wanting to give veterans a unique recognition. Keep Howe Beautiful wants to bring

Sorenson to Howe to paint the rock which will honor veterans from Grayson County. In order to do so, they will hold a silent auction with desserts and coffee on April 30 at Summit Gardens to raise funds for the $20,000 project.
