Bulldog baseball
Not making it into last week’s edition were two weekend games where Howe lost to Melissa, 14-4 and to Van Alstyne 4-3. Howe’s Matt Hayes was the starting pitcher against Melissa and was relieved by Parker Pecina. Luke Lopez and Pecina had the Bulldogs only two hits. Others to score were Ethan Lopez and Cooper Jones. Against Van Alstyne, all three of Howe’s runs came in the first inning. Ryan Hough, Austin Haley, and Daniels each scored the runs. Howe had only five hits in the game with Haley and Kaleb McNutt having two each. Daniels got the start on the mound and pitched five innings allowing four earned runs on five hits and two walks. He struck out seven batters. Haley followed him in relief and pitched a perfect inning striking out the side. On Thursday, Howe beat Dickson 115 and lost to Bristow 12-10. The Bulldogs bats came alive with 10 hits against Dickson. Haley went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and three walks. Ethan Lopez and Hough each had two hits and two runs. Hough and Jones each scored three runs for Howe. The Bulldogs played longball as they got homers from Luciano Vazquez, McNutt, and Pecina.

In his first ever fight, Cruz Garcia of Howe won first place at the DFW Golden Gloves competition. He follows his father Sergio Garcia’s footsteps who won the Golden Gloves in 1998. His father serves as his trainer.
