Soup Scoop Howe ISD Superintendent Kevin Wilson told the members of the Howe ISD Board of Trustees last Monday that the enrollment at the end of February was 1,202 which was down five students from January. Texas Education Agency (TEA) granted a Hold Harmless Clause which will fund schools based on the 2018-19 school year due to the past two years being abnormal. Wilson gave an update in regard to COVID-19 and said the ISD is trending in the right direction in the number of cases, or lack thereof. The week before spring break was the first week since September that they reported zero cases.

Wilson said the stadium upgrades with a new turf surface and new track will begin in mid-April. He held a pre-construction meeting and said that the company will dig a foot of dirt and treat the soil. They’ll be deconstructing the track that was put in place originally 35 years ago.

the main reasons we continue wearing masks is for the health safety of our staff,” said Wilson who said younger people bounce back from COVID much quicker than older people. “Also, the fact that continuing to wear masks limit the quarantines based off of close contacts that we have to do,” said Wilson. “If a student has COVID in a fourth

grade classroom and they are all wearing masks, then by definition we don’t have to quarantine them. If none of them are wearing masks, then it gets a little tricky and several kids will be quarantined. As hard as it’s been on kids with remote instruction this year, we really need those kids to stay in the classroom. I think that’s very important. In my opinion, those are the main two reasons we will continue to wear masks.

round of competition, so schools that advance from bi-district go straight to regionals. “33 Variations”, by Moises Kaufman, was inspired by Ludwig van Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations. The story simultaneously covers the musician’s creative process in the 1800’s alongside the story of a modern day musicologist Katherine Brandt attempting to understand the meaning behind the variations. Katherine’s battle with ALS and her struggling relationship with her daughter are paralleled with Beethoven’s growing deafness, with both feeling pressured to compete their final works before running out of time.
