Howe ISD Superintendent Kevin Wilson told the members of the Howe ISD Board of Trustees last Monday that the enrollment at the end of February was 1,202 which was down five students from January. Texas Education Agency (TEA) granted a Hold Harmless Clause which will fund schools based on the 2018-19 school year due to the past two years being abnormal. There is talk through the Texas Legislature that it could be extended through the end of this school year.

Wilson gave an update in regard to COVID-19 and said the ISD is trending in the right direction in the number of cases, or lack thereof. The week before spring break was the first week since September that they reported zero cases.

Howe’s One Act Play advances to regionals

The Howe High School Theater Department is all smiles as their One Act Play entitled, “33 Variations” is moving on to the regional finals as they won first place at bi-district over the weekend.

“33 Variations”, by Moises Kaufman, was inspired by Ludwig van Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations. The story simultaneously covers the musician’s creative process in the 1800’s alongside the story of a modern day musicologist Katherine Brandt attempting to understand the meaning behind the variations. Katherine’s battle with ALS and her struggling relationship with her daughter are paralleled with Beethoven’s growing deafness, with both feeling pressured to compete their final works before running out of time.
