Former Howe High School principal dies Blake Stiles, superintendent at Athens ISD died Wednesday morning at UT Health in Athens. Stiles was the former high school principal at Howe High School for six years from 2005-2010. According to The Tyler Morning Telegraph, he was expected to return to work in the next few weeks after a medical leave for a recent heart procedure. His cause of death is presumed to be heart-related, according to a joint message from Deputy Superintendent Dr. Janie Sims and AISD Board President Alicea Elliott. “We do know the loss to his family, especially, is enormous. He was, before anything else, a very proud husband and father. We ask at this time that Mrs. Stiles and their two children be given privacy as they navigate a fresh and awful grief,” the announcement read. “Please do lift them up in your prayers.” Mr. Stiles came to Athens ISD in 2011 as assistant superintendent and human resources director. He then replaced the outgoing superintendent in 2012. Before coming to AISD, he spent eight years at Howe High School in Howe as principal and assistant

principal. He was also a classroom teacher and coach in districts from 2A to 5A before moving into administration. During his stay at Howe High School, the campus earned a Texas Education Agency exemplary rating in the 20092010 school year. He joined Howe ISD as an assistant principal in 2003, before being promoted to the principal position. A donation can be made to the Howe Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of Mr. Stiles.
