As September arrives, it is time to begin planning for your fall yard clean-ups. Each year, these projects are an important part of preparing your property for the winter season. Scheduling early allows our team to organize work efficiently and ensure that all requests are completed in a timely manner during October and November, our busiest months for landscape maintenance.
In addition to clean-up projects, autumn is also one of the best times of year to add new plantings. Many nurseries begin discounting trees, shrubs, and perennials in October as they reduce inventory for the year. This presents an excellent opportunity to invest in your property by adding a specimen tree, refreshing foundation plantings, or enhancing garden beds. Cooler temperatures and consistent rainfall during the fall season also create favorable conditions for establishing strong root systems, giving new plantings a healthy start.
We encourage all owners to take advantage of this ideal season both for clean-up and for enhancing your landscape. Please contact us soon to discuss your needs so we can schedule your projects in advance. Call Property Services at 828-963-6879.
As we enjoy the beauty of the High Country, it’s important to remember that we share this environment with bears and other wildlife. Following a few simple BearWise Basics helps keep both people and animals safe:
Never feed or approach bears. Feeding wildlife, even unintentionally, teaches them to associate people with food and creates dangerous situations.
Secure food, garbage, and recyclables. Store all attractants in bear-resistant containers or indoors to prevent visits from curious bears.
Remove bird feeders during active bear season. Seeds, suet, and nectar are highly attractive to wildlife and can draw bears close to homes.
Be alert when outdoors. Make noise when walking, especially in wooded areas or near berry patches, and avoid surprising a bear.
Keep pets safe. Always walk dogs on a leash, and don’t allow pets to roam freely in areas where bears, coyotes, or other predators may be present. By taking these simple steps, we can help ensure our community remains safe, respectful, and wildlifefriendly.

Please take a moment to review our Club rules as they pertain to golf course etiquette.
All players are expected to learn and observe the fundamentals of golf etiquette. Excessive noise, the throwing of golf clubs, or profanity will not be permitted. Persons using the golf course should do their part to make a round of golf at Hound Ears Club a pleasant experience for everyone.
Here are some suggestions:
1. Do not waste time. Anticipate the club or clubs you may need and go directly to your ball. Always be near your ball to play promptly when it is your turn. If a player is delayed in making a shot, it would be courteous for such player to allow “ready golf,” meaning to play out of turn.
2. The time required to hole out on and around the green is a chief cause of slow play. Study and clear the line of your putt while others are doing the same. Be ready to putt when it is your turn.
3. Pace of play should not exceed 4 hours for 18 holes of play. During inclement weather or ‘cart-path-only’ restrictions, pace of play should not exceed 4 hours and 15 minutes for 18 holes of play.
a. Slow play is discouraged. In the interests of all, players should play without delay. No player should play until the players in front are safely out of range.
b. If a foursome or other group of players fails to keep their place on the course and loses more than one clear hole on the players ahead, they must allow the following group to play through. Do the same when you stop to search for a lost ball.
c. Continued slow play by players will be noted and the golf staff will attempt to improve such players’ skills to enable them to complete play within a reasonable time as established by the Director of Golf. If such efforts do not result in the required completion time, the Club may limit the playing of such players to times other than prime playing times.
d. All players who pause play after playing nine (9) holes, for any reason, must occupy the next tee before the following players arrive at the tee or they will lose their position on the golf course and must get permission from the starter to resume play.
4. When approaching a green, park your golf cart on the cart path on the best direct line to the next tee. This can save about twenty (20) minutes per round. Never leave the golf cart in front of the green where you will have to go back to get it, while the following players wait for you to get out of the way.
5. When playing of a hole is completed, leave the green promptly and proceed to the next tee without delay. Do the scoring for the completed hole while the others in your group are playing from the next tee.
6. “Cutting-in” is not permitted without permission of the starter or the Golf Shop. Under no circumstances are D-15 players permitted to start play from residences without approval of the Golf Shop or the starter, and if approved in no event should cutting in delay anyone already playing on the golf course.
7. The golf rangers are obligated to report excessively slow play and breaches of golf etiquette to the Director of Golf for appropriate action.
8. Observe golf maintenance rules. Fix other players divots, and ball marks.
9. With respect to music played from golf carts, volume must be maintained at a level not to exceed the appropriate vicinity of your cart.
10. With respect to resident and Member walkers on the course, walking on the course is permitted before 8:30 am and after 6:30 pm. Please note that golfers always have the right of way and be vigilant in terms of safety.

As the seasons change, it’s the perfect time to refresh your health habits — no drastic diets or marathon workouts required. At Hound Ears, we believe in sustainable wellness: the kind that fits seamlessly into your life and leaves you feeling energized, not exhausted. Here are five simple ways to enhance your lifestylewhilestillenjoyingthethingsyoulove.
1.MovewithIntention
You don’t need hours at the gym to see results. Just 10–15 minutes of purposeful movement — like a brisk walk around the course, a quick set of bodyweight exercises, or a stretch session before tee-off — can improve circulation, boost mood, andsharpenfocus.
2.HydrateSmarter
Swap one sugary drink for water (or sparkling water with lemon) each day. Staying hydrated supportsmusclerecovery, jointhealth, andeven mental clarity — making it as important for yourgolf swingasitisforyourtennisserve.
3.PrioritizeRecovery
Active lifestyles need rest. Incorporating rest days, gentlestretching, orevenyogacanprevent injuries and keep you performing your best, whether you’re on the court, the green, or the dancefloor.
4.MakeNutritionSimple
Instead of cutting out foods, think about adding nutrient-rich options: colorful vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats. This mindset shift turns eating into a source of fuel and enjoyment, not stress.
5.KeepItSocial
Health isn’t just physical — it’s mental and emotional, too. Join a group class, meet a walking buddy, or try a new activity at the club. You’ll not only stay active but also strengthen connections thatmakewellnessmorefunandsustainable.
The secret to lasting health isn’t perfection — it’s consistency. Choose one or two small changes this season and commit to them. Over time, these tiny habits build a foundation for strength, vitality, and longevity…bothonandoff thecourse.

This process ensures the proper occupancy and parking levels of your home to comply with our community’s standards.
Step 3: For each transaction, please complete a Tenant Information Form and return to the Rental Oversight Officer to provide information on your tenant and their vehicle(s). If you have an outside agency handling your rentals, please ensure they provide us this information.
Step 4: Begin hosting! With each transaction, regardless of the duration, there is a Transaction Fee that will be billed to your Hound Ears account.
If you have any questions or wish to begin, please reach out to our Hound Ears Club’s Rental Oversight Officer, Hannah Fredrick at hfredrick@houndears.com or call 828-963-2137
