Letter From Country Director Lily Ham Dear friends of HOPE worldwide Indonesia, Greetings! So many things happened since “We are the future” launched in 2007. In five years’ time of campaign, collaboration from school students, professionals, parents, institutions, governments, companies, has made the dream for one million children in Indonesia to receive health and education services come to reality. It seems impossible when we do it ourselves, but it becomes so possible when hand in hand with sincerity, passion and discipline; we respect each other, serve one child after another. The fruits of what we plant begin to grow and glow. Thanks to all of you, who already give your hearts, talents, time, thoughts, and efforts… The need is still there, the war has not ended, but it’s time to celebrate... to look back and thank God and everyone for the hard work and the lives changed, to give us hope to move to another chapter beyond what we can see today. 2012 could not bring a great harvest if it was not because of God and you, who are willing to do all the process from dreaming to achieving. We can’t celebrate this without you. Thank you for all your hardwork and support, that through 2007-2012, we could serve: 1.031.000 children in 15 cities in Indonesia. One of them is Hanna, our queen in the orphanage, who went through so many difficulties, failures, disappointments in her childhood none of us want to go through. Rejected by her own mother an hour after her birth, born without a cleft palate and heart problem, went through several major surgeries, born as a Special Needs child, rejected and bullied by friends at school, with short memory, stiff when eager and upset, and many other emotional and physical challenges she needs to cope at her young age. But through your love, through so many of you, Hanna now can learn life skills together with her Special Needs friends; though not every day, learn painting from one of the “gurus” in painting near the orphanage, and soon will join formal school with a shadow teacher. It’s all by the grace of God and the love you give continuously, that Hanna can experience lesser hardship. Some of you become her feet, some become her hands, eyes, heart, parents, siblings, that the orphanage can’t provide, yet you are there for her through your support in so many ways. Thank you that Hanna can find her brighter future and become one of the futures for Indonesia’s next generation. Again... on behalf of Hanna and other Hannas like her, I’d like to thank you for all the support you shared with us in the past five years through “We are the future” campaign. The memorable moments won’t go in vain but will be treasured deep in each and every child’s heart for a glimpse of better future in their childhood….
