SPRING IS AROUND THE CORNER!
If there are two things we love about spring in Southeast Texas, it is crawfish and patio weather! We know there is definitely no shortage of either and there are a lot of fun events going on in SETX this month!
It is also prime time to start house projects, whether it be remodeling or just general maintenance. What updates do you have on your list? Tag us in your projects!

Jordon: I get asked a lot about MDF used in doors versus all wood. Typically, on our paint grade doors, they are built with an MDF panel (middle of the door) The purpose of the MDF panel is to create a more stable door, overall. Especially in Southeast Texas, the humidity and heat causes the wood to expand and contract When solid wood expands and contracts, it does so horizontally and vertically, causing cracks in the doors. The MDF does not move as much, resulting in less cracks.
Jordon: MDF is not used in stain grade doors. These are made with beautiful stain grade wood, and you can sometimes see where the pieces of wood were glued and pressed together As it expands and contracts, the stain is much more forgiving, you cannot see the seams as clearly
Jordon: I know people tend to shy away from MDF, and I totally understand that! I would never use MDF as trim or anywhere else in my house I have just found that painted solid wood doors tend to have a lot of cracks and lines, and an MDF panel helps to minimize these.
MENTAL HEALTH MOMENT- COPING SKILLS
New Beginnings Counseling Team is a team of therapists serving our local communities out of their offices in Port Neches, Beaumont & Stafford. They see clients of all ages and use a variety of treatment modalities to help clients reach their goals! We, at HCS, understand the importance of taking care of your mental health and hope to diminish the stigma around seeking therapy
HCS: Thank you for joining us this month! Gosh, where to start? What is something you want potential clients to know?
NBCT: We just want people to know that you don't have to have something "wrong" with you or be "crazy" to seek therapy! We hear that a lot from first time clients. We feel like everyone can benefit from therapy at some point or another!
NBCT: We also hear "I wish I had done this sooner!" quite a bit, as well! Also, we want clients to know they're not alone. We feel therapy is unique in that it provides an unbiased third party to talk to, help you work through issues, and from which to learn skills Whether it be skills in communication, coping, anger management, or even setting boundaries, a good therapist can help you develop these within yourself!
HCS: Can you talk about coping skills today?
NBCT: Of course! So, we all have coping skills, some are healthy and some are not. Coping skills are thoughts or behaviors we use to reduce unpleasant emotions In therapy, we assess coping skills and help find ones that will serve our client, not hurt them
NBCT: There are thousands of coping skills out there, and what works for one person, might not work for the next Try out some skills, like journaling, walking, listening to a special playlist If they work for you, keep them in your coping skills tool kit. If they don't, keep trying different skills to find what works specifically for you!
COPING SKILLS ARE THOUGHTS OR BEHAVIORS WE USE TO REDUCE UNPLEASANT EMOTIONS
NBCT: Final thought: Every therapist has a different way of doing things, you may not click with the first one, find a therapist that is a good fit for you, this will help you get the most out of it!

Ingredients
1 lb cooked crawfish tails
1/2 stick of butter
1 yellow onion
minced garlic
1 green bell pepper
2 ribs celery
1-2 Roma tomatoes
1 frozen pie crust
1/2 C mozzarella cheese
1/2 C heavy cream
Slap Ya Mama Cajun Seasoning
Lawry's Garlic Salt
sprinkle of parmesan cheese
sprinkle of panko breadcrumbs
Directions
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. In a saucepan, add 1/2 stick of butter and let it melt. Add in chopped onion, bell pepper, & celery and let it sauté until it is opaque. Add in about 1 tsp of minced garlic.
Add in crawfish tail meat. Do not rinse the tails, that is where the flavor comes from! Add in the mozzarella and heavy cream and season with Slap Ya Mama and garlic salt. Remember, the crawfish are already seasoned when they are cooked, so you don't need much here. Cook for a few minutes until warmed through and everything has combined together and thickened.
* NOTE:Your pie must sit for at least 15-20 minutes before slicing into it or it will be a runny mess and not set up right.
Using a slotted spoon, add your ingredients to the frozen pie shell. Leave some of the juice out, too much juice will make your pie mushy. Cover the outside edges of the pie with aluminum foil to keep from burning and place in oven for 35-40 minutes.
Remove the foil and sprinkle with parmesan and panko on the top of the pie. Put it back in the oven for 5-10 minutes, until the edges are golden brown.

DESIGNER SPACE
This month we welcome Melissa Roberts of Melissa Roberts Interiors! Melissa is originally from Southeast Texas, and currently lives in the Houston area Melissa does it all! She is a mom, wife, and business owner MRI is known for curating spaces rooted in nature while focusing on both function and beauty.
HCS: Melissa! Thank you so much for joining us! Since patio season is upon us, we are hoping you could give us some pointers to keep in mind when furnishing and arranging our outdoor spaces?
Melissa: Yes! I love patio season and designing outdoor spaces I try to focus on creating intimate, conversational settings. It is a good idea to keep your furniture closer together rather than spread further apart. This will help the setting feel more inviting.
HCS: What do you recommend to cover the furniture?
Melissa: It is really important to get covers for furniture that stays exposed. The sun can be so brutal! Sunbrella fabric is always a smart investment. There are different qualities of this fabric, but it is always a better choice than using a fabric that is not treated for outdoor use.
I have actually even purchased AC unit covers for our outdoor chairs They fit perfectly and was an easy way to save some money!

Melissa: Also, try integrating seating that can face multiple directions (tv, pool, patio, etc.) I love this sectional and would place the coordinating sofa behind it The sectional will face the television while t
HCS: I love what you have created for us! Thank you so much! Any last minute tips?
Melissa: Don't forget outdoor pillows! These add texture and character Layers add so much to your space, both indoors and outdoors! You can throw a subtle pattern alongside a textured boucle type fabric to achieve a high end look. Something I love to do is use lumbar pillows, one per seat cushion!
Melissa: Something to think about, before purchasing your rug, make sure you check for drains in the pavers/tile. You do not want to cover these up.
