PRO TIP

Jordon is the owner and founder of Holmes Cabinet Specialties and has been in the construction field most of his life. He has been specializing in cabinets for the last five years.

Jordon: I have two pro tips this month! First, keep in mind that cheaper is not always the best choice when it comes to cabinets.

I've made a list of three things to look into when choosing your cabinet builder.

1. Hardware: cheap hardware can save some money but it will add headaches later.

2. Material: We like to use 3/4" birch to build our boxes and maple for our face frames.

These are hardy woods that will not dent and scratch as easily as other species.

3. Construction method: We strive to build the strongest boxes possible, and we have found stretchers & dados help us do just that!

Second pro tip! Since it's crawfish season, it's a good time to remind you to wash your hands BEFORE you go to the bathroom, and after.

But definitely don't forget the before. This is a good one to teach the kids, too!

KING CAKE BITES

I hope y'all enjoy this quick and simple version of King Cake. If you are running short on time or just don't want to make a homemade dough, these bites will do the trick.

Ingredients 2 cans crescent rolls 1 8oz package softened cream cheese 1 cup powdered sugar 1 tsp lemon juice 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 1 cup chopped pecans cinnamon sugar For the glaze 1 cup powdered sugar 2 tbs milk 1/2 tsp vanilla extract purple, green & gold sugared sprinkles

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. in a bowl, mix together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, lemon juice and vanilla until blended.

3. Lay out crescent rolls and pinch the seams of two triangles together to make a rectangle shape. One can should give you 4 rectangles.

4. Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on the crescent rolls. Add as much or as little as you prefer, I like a lot of cinnamon.

5.

Down the center of your rectangle add the cream cheese mixture. Add as much or as little as you like. I use about 2 tablespoons.

6. Sprinkle the chopped pecans down the center of your cream cheese.

7. Now bring the two sides of the crescent roll together over lapping each other on top of the cream cheese. Making sure to pinch all seams together.

8. Now slice your crescent into 4 pieces.

DESIGNER SPACE WITH TAYLOR DAVIS (SURFACES DESIGN STUDIO) Taylor is back! This time with inspiration she found at KBIS (Kitchen and Bath Industry Show) and TISE (The International Surface Event) in Vegas last week. All photos are taken by Taylor.

HCS: Tell us about Vegas! What are the highlights?

Taylor: It was amazing! There was so much to see, but there were some displays that really stood out! First, this Cambria quartz was definitely memorable! The island was curved and I could not find a seam! Certain colors will come with backlighting abilities, which adds a level of interest.

Taylor: One of the most suprising finds was sheet vinyl. I never thought I'd be talking about sheet vinyl, but here I am! I was truly impressed, it has come so far!

These floors have been completely revamped and look very realistic. I did a double take at the show and had to check it out. I learned that the vinyl is waterproof from top and bottom, which I feel is a nice safeguard.

I've shared a couple of the ones I was most drawn to. The designs and patterns are next level.

Taylor: I can see this vinyl working well in a commercial space that needs to be intentionally designed, while supporting a high level of foot traffic..

We are now using thermoforming techniques to bend slabs to curve. The slab is first heated, then formed to shape.

STATEMENT PIECES Taylor: I appreciate elements that are custom to a design and these Emtek fixtures allow just that! Emtek has created doorknobs and hinges that are customizable down to each individual part of the hardware. Most have multiple finish choices, such as flat black, oil rubbed bronze, and polished nickel.

Taylor: This moss wall was great!

What I loved about it is that YOU get to design it, and it is living art. There are a variety of colors and it is meant to live for years! Definitely not something you see everyday. With all the colors, shapes,and patterns, the options are endless!

Outdoor Shower Taylor: How fun is this outdoor shower?!

I love this as a statement piece. I love it so much, I plan to get one for the studio.

There are freestanding and portable options. It is as simple as connecting your waterhose inside of the stem and you are good to go! It will allow you to completely elevate an outdoor space & create an experience very easily!
