This month we welcome Melissa Roberts of Melissa Roberts Interiors! Melissa is originally from Southeast Texas, and currently lives in the Houston area Melissa does it all! She is a mom, wife, and business owner MRI is known for curating spaces rooted in nature while focusing on both function and beauty.
HCS: Melissa! Thank you so much for joining us! Since patio season is upon us, we are hoping you could give us some pointers to keep in mind when furnishing and arranging our outdoor spaces?

Melissa: Yes! I love patio season and designing outdoor spaces I try to focus on creating intimate, conversational settings. It is a good idea to keep your furniture closer together rather than spread further apart. This will help the setting feel more inviting.
HCS: What do you recommend to cover the furniture?
Melissa: It is really important to get covers for furniture that stays exposed. The sun can be so brutal! Sunbrella fabric is always a smart investment. There are different qualities of this fabric, but it is always a better choice than using a fabric that is not treated for outdoor use.
I have actually even purchased AC unit covers for our outdoor chairs They fit perfectly and was an easy way to save some money!

HCS: I love what you have created for us! Thank you so much! Any last minute tips?
Melissa: Don't forget outdoor pillows! These add texture and character Layers add so much to your space, both indoors and outdoors! You can throw a subtle pattern alongside a textured boucle type fabric to achieve a high end look. Something I love to do is use lumbar pillows, one per seat cushion!

Melissa: Something to think about, before purchasing your rug, make sure you check for drains in the pavers/tile. You do not want to cover these up.
