i. Yes Senator Mishkin, “Is one event more of a priority than the other?” i. Yes, we would prioritize Sexfest, as it is an annual BSU event c. Senator Mishkin, “Have you ever cosponsored the event and what is usually the turnout? i. Yes, we have tried to and have cosponsored with SASS. SASS will not contribute funds, but education. Usually at least forty people show up. d. Senator Tomasso, “How many years has Sexfest been put on?” i. Since we changed from APO to BSU, which was in the late 1990’s. e. Senator Mustazza, “Do you always use the same instructor?” i. No f. Senator Labrie, “What supplies specifically are you looking to purchase?” i. An instructor for our workshop g. Senator Ismail, “If SASS is providing educational, why do you need an instructor?” i. The instructor would be more for the fun-­day, education on the first day would be covered mostly by SASS’s information and statistics.

4. Chairwoman Normandin asks Comptroller Senderowicz what the across the board budget cuts were. a. Comptroller Senderowicz explains that only 50% of funding for speakers was allocated over budget weekend 5. Chairwoman Normandin asks, “Has SGA ever funded for Sexfest in the past?” a. Only in Spring 2014, but they requested it for Spring 2015 6. Senator Narain, “Would you be able to tell us how much already was funded for the speaker?” a. They originally asked for $450 7. Senator Ismail, “The first day event is provided by SASS, if the speaker is for the second day why would they need funding for both days?” a. That was not stated in their description 8. Senator Crofts, “The speaker would cost $500 over two days, but $250 for one day, would we only cover $125?” a. No, because it is an instructor not a speaker 9. Senator Narain motions to fund $250 for a speaker a. Motion is not seconded 10. Chairwoman Normandin motions to fund $1,000.00 for the fashion show host a. Motion is seconded b. Motion is objected to i. Debate 1. Chairwoman Normandin speaks for a. Think they should fund the fashion show because it is more applicable to the purpose of the club, more so than Sexfest does.

2. Senator Anderson speaks against a. They would prefer funding for Sexfest, there is not adamant education within the black community about sexual health, so this event is in support of the club’s purpose. b. We should try to fund for both, not just the fashion show c. Yields time to Senator Narain i. We could fund a little less for the fashion show and give some for Sexfest ii. Chairwoman Casey speaks for 1. We haven’t funded Sexfest before and they have been able to put it on anyway. The description for Sexfest was not in the explanation for our committee. I would prefer they came to a weekly meeting next week. $1,000.00 is more than $250.00 and I think they’d prefer that. iii. Senator Martin speaks against 1. Not against funding fashion show speaker, but thinks we should also fund $250.00 for Sexfest instructor. I think it will help the community more and also fits in their purpose. He proposes $1250.00 c. By a vote of 20-­16-­1 BSU is allocated $1,000.00 b.

11. Senator Tadbiri motions to add $250.00 for Sexfest a. Motion is seconded b. Motion is objected to c. Debate i. Senator Tadbiri speaks for 1. Sexfest is a part of their purpose, because in the black community sexual education is not taught as well as it should be. Everyone needs to be educated about sexual activity, and this event can help everyone – the entire Long Island and Hofstra community.

2. Yields time to Senator Anderson a. The black community genuinely needs to be educated about this ii. Senator Ramirez speaks against 1. They currently have over $4000.00, this is more than enough to put on the events that they need. This information was not given to us earlier. It’s not fair for us to fund this club with additionally information when other clubs did not have the opportunity to explain further.

2. Yields time to Chairman Kutsch a. Other events like this happen and there are other clubs that can co-­sponsor iii. Chairwoman Wright speaks for 1. Yes, even if they are working with SASS that doesn’t mean we can’t give them extra money 2. Yields time to senator martin a. This is something they are passionate about, and although it wasn’t provided sooner, it should be considered. It is a big and important event for this specific community iv. Senator Mishkin speaks against 1. They said SASS is going to co-­sponsor but not monetarily, I think there is a lot of miscommunication. I’m hesitant to fund them for one day, in case we are confused and need to fund for two days. An event that is this important should have a higher turnout. History says we should not fund this, and standard shows we should not consider information that is not provided for Budget Weekend. d. By a vote of 10-­25-­2 BSU is not allocated $250.00 12. Senator Gordon makes a motion to give BSU $125.00 instead of $250.00 for the Sexfest instructor a. Motion is seconded b. Motion is objected to c. Debate i. Senator Gordon speaks for 1. Everything was already touched on, but they need this instructor. Why not just make Hofstra a better place. ii. Chairwoman Casey explains what the Kama Sutra instructor will be teaching if he or she is invited iii. Chairman Durand speaks against 1. In no way did the description say anything about education anyone, not even the black community. This does not correlate to their purpose. I don’t feel that this number has a clear reason in particular, and we cannot explain it to the club. I feel that we’ve exhausted debate.

2. Yields time to Senator Mishkin a. Giving $125.00 is just so small that it is almost pointless iv. Senator Farajollah speaks for 1. We don’t have to fund the whole thing, but why not half?

They can fund the rest themselves 2. Yields time to Senator Jasmin a. Maybe kama sutra has nothing to do with sexual health, but it does. This will help to

educate the community. I think $125.00 is something, and that is better than nothing. v. Senator Amadio speaks against 1. Whether we want to fund this event are not, these appeals are to correct potential mistakes. There cannot be any extra information than we previously received and it is not fair to other clubs.

2. Yields time to Senator Ramirez a. They have received very thorough information, including a detailed treasurer packet, and had the opportunity to explain this earlier d. By vote of 10-­26-­1 BSU is not funded $125.00 13. In total, BSU was allocated $1,000.00 for the Dream Fashion Show supplies ii. Investment Analysis Association (IAA) 1. Appropriations Background a. Requesting $1,100.00 for a speaker b. We can only fund half, $550.00 c. Did not fund because they have not requested funds in four semesters and we did not find it appropriate to fund this money for a club that does not have a spending track record d. Questions i. He would be coming to teach students about what he does for a living, and teach them how to get a step ahead of other students – such as those of NYU d. In the past, I did not get the money because I don’t usually do budgets. I don’t want to waste SGA’s money or time;; I did not want to ask for money that was not going to be used.

We have not really held events, because it is hard to get speakers to come and take off work g. Senator Read, “Do you hold any other events besides speaker?” i. Interactive, an open forum with some background and advice j. Senator Bekios, “If you aren’t funded do you have any fundraising ideas?” i. Debate i. Senator Craig speaks for 1. They explained that they haven’t had events as to not waste money. The event fits their purpose and would help many people, since it is open to the public 2. Chairwoman Normandin speaks against 1. We passed a new policy that says that before we see clubs they must raise funds on their own. I think that should be precedent for funding for all clubs. I think they aren’t very active and should come to a weekly meeting to request smaller funds.

This club seems to have some issues, but the fact of the matter is if we fund them half we get them going and it will give them incentive to start fundraising themselves.

We shouldn’t hold them not coming to us against them.

2. Yields time to Senator Mishkin a. I don’t think our new policy should apply. I also don’t think we should worry about the financial amount;; they have everything set up. iv. Senator Bekios speaks against 1. I think this is a great pre-­professional club, but since they have no track record we should not be funding them fully.

They already said they are not going to try to fundraise.

Last semester I audited this club for IRCB and they were very unwilling to fundraise, and therefore this event will not actually occur. I think Club Relations can work with them and they can work with other pre-­professional clubs to build themselves up.

Chairwoman Casey responds that they were not directly asked, but the committee generally knows who fundraises, and many clubs requested fundraising materials d.

7. IAA was not allocated any additional funds iii. Hofstra Concerts (Concerts) 1. Appropriations Background a. Allocated $41,000 which goes to MusicFest, one of the biggest campus wide events at Hofstra i. Funding goes to the stage amongst other things b. They are here for tape that they were not funded for i. The most we can fund is $112.00 c. Senator Bielunas asks how we should go about dealing with new information that was not given to appropriations for Budget Weekend i. Chairwoman Casey explains that clubs are not supposed to bring new information to senate, as this is unfair to all the other clubs. d. Senator Martin asks if the remaining some of money can be added on to other clubs later i. Chairwoman Casey says that yes, this is possible during Appropriations Minutes e. Senator Crofts asks where the original $41,000 went i. Chairwoman Casey explains that we have passed a policy for Concerts that they can request funds a semester in advance in order to help with planning ii. They have been allocated $49,000 for the artist and $39,000 for the stage. f. Senator Mustazza asks if the collaborate with other clubs i. Chairwoman Casey explains that they cosponsor with Entertainment Unlimited (EU) to pay for food, rides, and work orders ii. Most Concert’s funding comes from us, but they do a lot of fundraising by renting out equipment. They also reach out to many sponsors, and ask the university for funds as well, but this could affect who has control over the concert. g. Senator Bekios asks if outside students have to pay i. Senator Gardner states that in the past there has been a one-­to-­ one policy and each person is charged. The money goes to a charity that Concerts works with h. Senator Anderson asks about the turnout i. Chairwoman Casey recommends asking Concerts i. Senator Crofts asks if they already got $45,000 last semester, then they asked for $81,000, and got allocated $41,000. i. Chairwoman Casey reiterates funding breakdown j. Senator Oguejiofor asks if requests have increased or decreased i. Chairwoman Casey explains that they have been consistent, and rarely request more than they need. They want to make sure they get what they need, though. k. Senator Anderson asks if they give a price ranges based of artists? i. Chairwoman Casey states that yes, but due to confidentiality, contracts, and an element of surprise we do not know exactly who they are looking for. l. Senator Anderson asks if they have considered asking students to contribute a small fee, as per University Senate’s questionnaire earlier this semester. i. Chairwoman Casey states that they did not mention that in their application. ii. Senator Ramirez explains that that survey was for future years, and cannot be implemented in time for this year’s MusicFest 2. Three minutes to Explain Funding Request a. Looking for an additional $10,000 for artists and gaffer tape b. Musicians are the focal points of the event, and they need money to obtain larger and more expensive act, which draw in more students i. This may cost $40,000 for only one artist c. Gaff tape is essential as it ensures safety for wiring, and we use this with any events that require our equipment i. One roll is $28.00, but we use it so often that we need a lot of it 3. Three minutes of Questioning a. Chairwoman Wright asks, “Do you guys know how many attend MusicFest last year?”

i. We aren’t sure of exact numbers, but it is usually 2,000 Hofstra Undergraduate students, and there were between 200-­300 guests all together, as well as faculty and staff b. Senator Tomasso, “How many rolls of tape do you go through?” i. Definitely three, probably four c. Senator Anderson, “What was last year’s cost?” i. The total cost was roughly $50,000 for artists, but we also do all the production, which was about $30,000. What we are asking for today would go strictly to artists. d. Senator Crofts, “Has SGA funded the gaff tape in the past?” i. Yes, just not recently as we have been trying to make it last 4. Senator Tomasso motions to allocate $1084.00, $1000 for the artist and $84 for tape a. Motion is seconded b. Motion is objected to c. Debate i. Senator Tomasso speaks for 1. $1000 is for the performer because people are very interested in that 2. $84 is because he said they need at least three rolls of tape, and that is the cost of three rolls, this is a compromise ii. Senator Martin asks for projected requests for the rest of the clubs tonight 1. Probably around $2,400. iii. Senator Martin speaks against 1. We should remain that we have $1,600 left to allocate for concerts iv. Chairwoman Casey speaks for 1. I think that the extra $1000 would be helpful, as they do not know how much we have left for appeals. I wouldn’t be against funding them more, but I think keeping them at $1000 would be better to be able to get to the other two clubs and possibly go back to concerts later d. By a vote of 34-­2-­0 Concerts will receive $1084.00 5. Senator Mishkin motions to add $528.00, for the last roll of tape and the remainder for an artist a. Senator Mishkin speaks for i. We are the voice of the students, and this is by the students for the students. It is our duty to make this event great. This is the events eleventh year, and 1/5 of the entire campus goes. They need money for tape for a variety of different events. This amount leaves money for the other clubs. b. Senator Bekios speaks against i. I think we should wait until after to reopen the budget so other clubs have a fair share at getting money from appeals. c. Senator Crofts speaks for i. The way the numbers add up makes it appear that Concerts should receive these funds d. Senator Ramirez speaks against i. They can use the tape later ii. Yields time to Senator Martin 1. There are other clubs and we can reopen those budgets also, so we really should wait 2. Yields time to Senator Amadio a. In fairness, we must wait to allocate funds fairly e. Coming for i. Night Without a Home – $140.48 for duct tape and food 1. One of the four principles of HHH is to raise awareness about substandard houses. Students will sleep outside, so we need tape to assemble cardboard box homes ii. Gas mileage reimbursement – we cannot allocate money because they did not provide proof of where they are going iii. Habitat Fundraising Gala -­ $525 for food for 50 people 1. Third annual, open to entire student body. All funds raised from ticket sales and raffles will go to Nassau County Habitat for Humanity to use funds for affordable housing in our community b. Senator Crofts asks how much we’ve funded for the gala i. Comptroller Senderowicz explains that we had increased funding during reallocation in the past, but it was not spent c. Senator Martin asks about their track record i. Comptroller Senderowicz states that they have a good spending record Three minutes to Explain Funding Request a. President and Treasurer are here to appeal for $215.14 for gas and $140.48 for Night Without a Home b. Building is our most important pillar, which is why we need gas for builds.

Without that money we could not perform the main function of our club c. Awareness is another important pillar, and Night Without a Home is how we show that. We need supplies in order to put on these events Three minutes of Questioning a. Senator Valerio, “How many people came out for Night Without a Home?” i. 25-­30 people b. Senator Bielunas, “How many active members do you have?” i. 300 on GIHU, 50 at each build c. Senator Martin, “I know you requested food for 100 people, how has attendance been in the past?” i. We have always hit our cap;; we are exploring other options to fund the gala Chairwoman Cinquemani motions to add $140.48 to their budget for Night Without a Home Supplies a. Motion is seconded b. By a vote of 35-­0-­1, HHH will receive $140.48 for supplies Senator Martin motions to add $262.50 for food for Fundraising Gala a. Motion is seconded b. Motion is objected to c. Debate i. Senator Martin speaks for 1. I feel that this is a great functioning club that uses their budget. They reached their max and need more people for next time. We cannot fund for their mileage, but maybe they can use some gala money to compensate and offset for that. ii. Senator Mishkin speaks against 1. My primary objection is that they didn’t appeal for this money. They said they are exploring other options to fund this, and we can always allocate some later.

2. Yields time to Senator Mustazza a. They talked about this event as it wasn’t as successful or extravagant as they would have wanted it to be iii. Senator Narain speaks for 1. I know they didn’t come specifically for this, but I think it will definitely help them. More people will create more donations to their cause.

2. Yields time to Chairwoman Wright a. This event can also bring in new potential members iv. Senator Crofts speaks against 1. I think this is one of the better clubs on campus, but they seemed to be okay and accepting of having to raise the

money themselves. We also allocated them $525 less in the spring, and everything went ok. d. By a vote of 16-­19-­1, HHH will not receive $262.50 Chairwoman Cinquemani motions to give the club $215.14 towards the gala to offset fundraising costs a. Motion is seconded b. Motion is objected to c. Debate i. Chairwoman Cinquemani speaks for 1. The reason to give this amount is that they’ve reallocated money anyway, so they can reallocate the funds however they want and they can figure out fundraising and efforts towards gas mileage 2. Yields time to Senator Martin a. Builds are directly related to their purpose, and they need that money. This is an effort to get it to them ii. Chairman Kutsch speaks against 1. I think this is a messy number that will cause problems for Comptroller Senderowicz, and we should always allocate money as if the clubs are going to use it correctly. There is already so much paperwork that goes back and forth.

This is a backdoor way of getting them money for mileage, and we shouldn’t do that b. Yields time to Chairwoman Normandin i. I think this is confusing and the club won’t understand so we can give it right to the category ii. Yields time to Senator Mishkin iii. Agrees with Chairwoman Normandin and Senator Amadio iv. Yields time to Senator Martin d. By a vote of 4-­31-­1 HHH does not receive $215.14 Senator Martin motions to allocate $210.00 for food for the gala a. Motion is seconded b. Motion is objected to c. Debate i. Senator Martin speaks for 1. We’re trying to offset gas costs, and in doing so I am allocating $210 for 20 people to eat so it is close to gas price by still round ii. Senator Bielunas 1. It seems that we are looking to allocate funds just for the sake of it, but they did not really ask for this. If they really need money, they can come to a weekly appropriations meeting and seem willing to fundraise on their own. We can always go back at the end of the night.

2. Yields time to Senator Valerio a. We’ve given them what they’ve asked for iii. Senator Martin speaks for 1. I wouldn’t want to pay out of pocket, even if it is for charity work. It isn’t guaranteed that they’d got a spot in appropriations and I think it’s a small but immensely beneficial fund that will help with the purpose of their club – builds 2. Yields time to Senator Mustazza a. When they go out they represent Hofstra iv. Senator Ramirez speaks against 1. While this money is not guaranteed, it isn’t right to give them money with them with intentions for them to use it

to gas, and it seems wrong to give them money for something they didn’t ask for when we denied other clubs things they specifically asked for 2. Yields time to Chairwoman Casey a. They will not need gas money till a little bit into the semester b. Yields time to Senator Mishkin i. Other clubs that did not include quotes did not got budgets, and we need to follow that rule d. By a vote of 5-­30-­1, HHH will not receive $210.00 8. In total, HHH will receive an additional $140.48 for Night Without a Home vi. Muslim Student Association (MSA) 1. Appropriations Background a. We do not know what she is coming for i. Assuming it is for ICNA Convention, which was cut because it was just too expensive and we funded them more for next semester than we have in the past overall – max $1,093.28 ii. May be for MSA Apparel – max $250.00 iii. May be food that does not have a quote, so we cannot allocate b. Senator Craig asks if she can ask if they were only funded for a portion, would you be able to fundraise other portions i. Chairwoman Casey states that it would have to be fees, but yes c. Senator Anderson asks about their mileage i. Chairwoman Casey explains that mileage is fine according to the shortest distance, that would be $233.38 d. Senator Bekios asks how many people could go to the conference i. Chairwoman Casey says four e. Senator Crofts asks if Islamic Awareness Week coincides with the conference i. Chairwoman Casey replies that no, it does not, and they will be tabling and doing other awareness raising events f. Senator Tadbiri asks for the description of the convention i. As per Chairwoman Casey: A religious convention with educational aspects. Teaches awareness of Islam and is in Baltimore.

We went from 5 members to 25 members, so we are growing mostly due to political activism around campus. We want to promote awareness. President’s Report End of the Semester Fall 2016 – 81st Senate

Introduction a. The Fall 2016 Semester has been one of the most productive semesters that the Student Government Association (SGA) has had. The immense amount of time and effort that the chairs and their committees put into the organization are both commendable and noteworthy.

Student Appreciation Week a. Collaborations with the various departments and organizations was extremely successful. 1551 students were polled and exceeded the number of students polled last year.

Midnight Madness a. SGA held our Senate Meeting in the Pride Lounge in order to attend Midnight Madness.

The Spirit Committee spent countless hours in preparation of the event and the students came out to support the Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams.

Rathskellar Renovations a. The “Rat” space was taken off the line of use and renovations have begun. The anticipated date of opening is just after the beginning of the Spring 2017 Semester.

Budget Weekend a. The appropriations committee spent two weekends to review the budget proposals for the Spring 2017 Semester. The committee allocated funds evenly, across all club categories, based on policy series, overall fairness, and the application of the events in correlation to each organization’s purpose.

Pride Unleashed Week a. Currently in Pride Unleashed Week – the events have been successful and well attended. The Spirit Committee planned and executed events in accordance with Athletics and in hopes to improve previous year’s participation. b. Results and analysis of results will be presented in Spring 2017.

Provost Scholar Reception a. Held on December 7, 2016 in the Multipurpose Rooms. The event had more attendees than RSVP and the bookstore also donated gift cards to the recipients again.

Build a Friend a. On Monday. December 12, at HofUSA. Public Relations has been preparing and posting many posts to get attendance.

Coalition Building a. Working on improving relations with RHA and University Senate. We will reengage with University Senate Student Affairs Committee in the Spring 2017 Semester.

Hofstra Celebrates the Holidays a. SGA participated with Alpha Theta Beta, Phi Sigma Sigma, and Phi Kappa Theta to paint a window with the theme of Chinese New Year.

Club Relations End of Semester Report Wednesday, December 7th, 2016 1) Club De-recognition process a. Worked with Rules Chair Normandin to pass legislation to establish a process to audit clubs who have not had contact with SGA in two years. b. Allows us to remove clubs that have gone inactive and become aware of clubs that may need our assistance c. Goals for next semester: Send out audit form and begin process of working with clubs to see where they are 2) Club Appreciation Day a. Have begun brainstorming what we plan to do to show the clubs that we appreciate them. b. Goals for next semester: Effectively plan and execute this event and reach as many student clubs as possible 3) Office Space Allocation a. Began planning for next semester and worked with our advisor Karl to start spreading awareness of when that will take place and what clubs will need to be eligible b. Goals for next semester: Promote when the application opens so that everyone is aware of when it will start and end, answer any and all questions put forth by the clubs and their advisors 4) Club Storage space a. Have allocated storage space to Her Campus, Hofstra Tabletop Gamers Club, and Hofstra Mechanical Engineering Club b. Goals for next semester: Will look into possibly expanding club storage space because we are low.

5) Meeting with clubs a. Currently I have met with three (3) clubs before they have presented to senate asking to be recognized. They have all had better presentations because of it and I would like to continue doing this so that the chair meets with club leaders and that they have a better idea of what senate looks for in recognizing a club.

6) Club Leadership Training a. Will host club leader training in February in conjunction with Title XI training to make it easier on clubs b. Will continue working on making training shorter and a packet that clubs can refer to if they have general questions.

7) Involvement Fair a. Will work with OSLE to participate in the involvement fair.

Public Relations Committee End of Semester Report: Fall 2016 Social Media: My highest priority this year has been to maintain a consistently high profile on social media. As of today, on Facebook alone, the SGA account has posted original content 116 times.

That is an average of 1.3 posts per day, which does not even count the posts on the account before the school year started We had countdowns on social media for What’s Happening at Hofstra, Midnight Madness, Pride Unleashed Week and Student Appreciation Week – the average reach for these kinds of promotions are between 1,000 and 1,500 per post, with some of our posts reaching 2.2K -

Because of continued collaboration with DSA, OSLE, and the library, we have continued to help broaden the social media reach of their own promotions, reposting such events as movie screenings with the library, and We the Civil People, both of which had a reach exceeding 1,700 students. We the Civil people was also one of the most engaged posts of the year on Facebook, with many students sharing and commenting on the timeliness of the event.

By formalizing roles for committee members, we have been able to do countdowns for several events in a timely manner.

The most successful content on social media thus far has been the #sgaspotlight campaign, which highlights individual members of SGA and their past, current, and planned future contributions.

These posts have consistently accrued the greatest amount of likes, views, and shares on both Facebook and Instagram. They also have forced people to become more aware of goings-on in SGA, as the nominations for the spotlight are entirely drawn from suggestions. o In response to such a positive internal and external reaction, this particular promotion has been updated to twice a week, and it has been really rewarding seeing the response to these, especially since they each help better acquaint the student body with what it is we do

We have had, up to this year, a good presence on social media during events, but that is something I’d like to improve upon even further. As I mentioned in my Mid-semester report, I am very excited about the great shirts and I am pleased that we have had a strong presence at events such as

Finally, something that I’d also like to expand over the rest of the year is the use of Facebook Live streaming. The Live video at the “What’s Happening at Hofstra” event generated a great deal of engagement. à over 20% more engagement over our average post. I’d like this to be a consistent presence at our most important events over the rest of this year, starting with some use during Student Appreciation Week.

Fall 2016 End of Semester Report 81st Senate Rules Chair Normandin Fall Elections The Rules Committee facilitated the Fall Elections of the 81st Senate. 54 interested students attended Election Information Sessions to learn more about the election process. 27 of these students submitted a completed election packet and ran for either a Senator or Justice position. With a vote by 452 undergraduate students, 8 students were elected as Senators and 6 students were elected as Justices, bringing the total number of students holding positions in SGA to 47 members.

Clubs Updating Constitutions Hofstra ESports Hofstra Crew Hofstra Men’s Rugby Music and Entertainment Industry Association (MEISA) Hofstra Students for Liberty Club Softball Pride Student Veterans Organization (PSVO) and American String Teachers’ Association (ASTA) attended Senate twice after originally not being recognized. Colleges Against Cancer (CAC) is continuing to have conversations with the Rules Committee about returning to Senate in pursuit of recognition next semester.

Club Elections/ Impeachments The sign-up process by which clubs request the attendance of an SGA representative at their elections has been moved to a form on GetInvolvedHU. This change has helped to facilitate and organize the conversations taking place between clubs and the Rules Chair. The process by which members of SGA sign up to attend elections had also been moved online to a Google Doc. This change again helps with organization and documentation of election attendance.

Thus far, SGA members have attended a total of 55 club elections and one impeachment proceeding.

Referenda S.A.2016.81.001: Fall SGA Election Referendum Questions was passed through Senate on September 15th, 2016.

These questions provided insight as to student awareness of the extended Library and Fitness Center hours, as extended through previous SGA initiatives. The questions also polled student knowledge of the new Ramen noodle food station and gaged the student interest in extending recycling resources on the residential side of campus.

S.A.2016.81.003: Student Appreciation Week Referendum Questions was seen at Senate on October 27th, 2016, and included questions intended to poll students on their support for various future initiatives.

Legislation S.A.2016.81.002: Club Recognition/ De-Recognition was passed through Senate on October 13th, 2016. This legislation clarifies the existing criteria and adds new requirements that clubs must meet prior to becoming eligible for SGA recognition. The legislation also adds a process by which SGA may de-recognize clubs that are found to be inactive and/or not utilizing SGA services any longer.

S.A.2016.81.004: Senate Absence Guidelines was seen at Senate on November 3rd, 2016 and aimed to clarify the absences given when Senators miss only a portion of Senate meetings. This legislation did not pass.

S.A.2016.81.005 Office Hour Substitution Policy was seen at Senate on November 3rd, 2016 and aimed to allow SGA members to substitute attendance at certain on-campus events for their weekly office hour This legislation did not pass.

S.A.2016.81.006: President Serving as Chair of Committee was passed through Senate on November 3rd, 2016.

This legislation clarifies a constitutional discrepancy between two clauses. Now, in absence of the committee chair, the President shall serve as chair of any committee meeting if a chair pro tempore has not been appointed.

S.A.2016.81.007: Office Hour Substitution Policy (Revised) was seen at Senate on November 10th, 2016, again aiming to allow members to substitute weekly office hours for certain on-campus events. This legislation did not pass.

Legislation Lessons In an attempt to acclimate the new Senators, Legislation Lessons were given on the items that comprise the Senate agenda, the language one uses to make a motion, the types of debate in which Senate participates, and the general Club Recognition Hearing process.

Appointed Positions Senator David Durand was originally appointed as Ethics and Conduct Chair. Senator Mike Amadio assumed the position in October.

Committee Initiatives Rules Committee members have taken on various internal and external initiatives. Senator Sabrina Bekios worked to increase transparency in the differences between the OSLE and SGA club recognition processes. She finalized a list of questions that can guide clubs in crafting their Recognition Hearing presentations. Senator Polina Mustazza would like to create education videos about SGA’s services. Chair Abby Normandin created a committee minutes template to have consistent formatting in the Senate agenda. Chair Abby Normandin also updated and finalized the list of active clubs and organizations on campus, and which of these are SGA-recognized. There are currently 217 active Hofstra clubs and organizations, and 147 of these are SGA-recognized.

The Rules Committee tabled in the Student Center Atrium on November 30th for FaceTime with SGA. Registration Committee The first Registration Committee meeting was held on October 21st from 10-12 AM. In attendance were SGA advisor Karl Koeppel, OSLE advisors Denise DeGennaro and Gillian Atkinson, Fitness Center advisor Shaun Fean, SGA Club Relations Chair David Durand, SGA Rules Chair Abby Normandin, and SGA Senator Mike Amadio.

A total of eight clubs were considered. Five of these initially passed through the committee and are now recognized by the University. These clubs include the Student Organization for Animal Rights, Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA), American Medical Women’s Association, De Moda, and Society of Women Engineers. The recognition of two clubs was pending, but ultimately these clubs were also recognized by the University. FreshU and Exercise is Medicine are now active clubs on campus.

The second Registration Committee meeting will be held on December 9th from 10-12 AM. Senator Polina Mustazza will attend with Rules Chair Normandin.

Spirit Committee End of Semester Reports December 8th 2016 Our Mission:

Our mission for the 2016-2017 academic year is to bring SPIRIT in the students and instill PRIDE in the Hofstra Community.

Events held:

Fall Fest: -Co-sponsored with the university to help fund for the Pride Expo. The items included were supplies for the expos. In addition to funding, SGA tabled during the event with a prize wheel, hired a DJ and helped promote the event.

The event was successful and families loved it.

Midnight Madness: -First event with Hofstra Athletics to promote the beginning of the basketball season.

Pride Unleashed Week: -Promoted women’s basketball against University of Massachusetts and men’s basketball against the University of Kentucky that will be held at the Barclay’s Center.

This was a week filled with giveaways, trivia and school spirit.

Hofstra Celebrates the Holidays: -Teamed up with Alpha Theta Beta, Phi Kappa Theta and Phi Sigma Sigma to create a window display for Chinese New Year.
