We do not recognize clubs that have graduate membership 2. At Rules, they said they did not have graduate members 3. Hofstra Tabletop Gamers Club a. Five Minutes of Explanation i. Thanks and hello. President and cofounder of Hoftops ii. 40 active club members iii. Purpose: providing, entertaining, and friendship building through the use of board games iv. Pride selves on having face-­to-­face interaction, club’s uniqueness, and casual environment v. Access to over 150 board games as well as over 1000 of Dean Fitzpatrick’s own personal collection vi. Club members often provide board games vii. Promote participation and reduce traditional social pressures of other types of events viii. Past Events 1. Co-­sponsorship with the CSI Club which created a boost in membership 2. Provided Netherlands’ debate interviewing party with entertainment

Worked with an RA in Vander Poel for hot cocoa and board games 4. Attended two Accepted Students Days ix. Future Plans 1. Meeting planned for every Thursday of the Spring Semester that is allowed 2. Upcoming Fundraiser: 26 board games have been through donations, but on December 15th there will be a fundraiser with Chipotle to donate 50% of dinner proceeds x. 1. Star Wars Night – May 4th, 2017 2. Work with coloring club just how many board games are about coloring 3. Gil Hova of Formal Ferret Games will speak to the club about creating board games base on clubs a. Hope Entrepreneurial club will join xii. Why SGA Recognition?

1. Feel like Puerto Rico, and feel we can help promote them in many ways 2. Also need storage space, board games are currently in the trunk of a car 3. Funds to advance the club, since most board games are not club owned – 7 Wonders runs with 9 players when it is a 7 player game xiii. 1. When current members graduate, they want to be able to leave games behind so club can continue 2. We also want to increase co-­sponsorship and we know SGA can help us with that Five Minutes of Questioning i. Senator Radeva, “You have an impressively large number of members, is your club open to graduate students as well?”

1. Currently, since we are not SGA recognized, we have three graduate members. Our plan if we become recognized, the three members will be notified and taken off our GetInvolvedHU (GIHU) List, and will not count towards our membership nor be able to participate in events that have been enacted through SGA means. ii. Senator Radeva, “Do any graduate students sit on the executive board?”

1. Yes, but they will step down in the case that we are recognized iii. Senator Crofts, “Are the graduate students aware of the club?”

1. Yes, absolutely. iv. Senator Crofts, “Have you done any past fundraising?”

1. Not yet, but we have asked for donations through letters we have written and gotten money in that way v. Senator Amadio, “How will you handle the grad student sitting as your e-­board’s treasurer?”

1. We will not have any funds in our account until December 15th, and it will go straight into our OSLE account. The grad student will have nothing to do with it. vi. Chairman Durand, “How have you advertised your club and are you aware of SGA’s PR services?”

1. We have made flyers so far, in Colonial Square, have had a Chronicle Article written about us, and every Thursday we send out an email that goes to a mailing list of 112 students detailing our plan for our meeting that evening.

vii. Senator Mustazza, “How do you decide what games to purchase for your members?”

1. We use BoardGameGeek’s system to rate the games we have at this point. We use these to see which games members like and from there we will buy similar games. 7 Wonders has obviously been a hit, so we will probably add more copies of that.

Debate i. Senator Craig, point of clarification for Rules Chair, “To be OSLE approved can you have graduate clubs?”

1. There are graduate clubs and undergraduate clubs to be recognized by clubs, but it is not exclusive to undergraduate clubs ii. Senator Mishkin, point of clarification, this does not require a 2/3 vote because it does not go against our policy series.

1. In their constitution, there is not a single mention of graduate students, and we go by documentation not debate 2. Chairwoman Casey, “GIHU page would be considered documentation as well” iii. Chairman Kutsch speaks for 1. They have gone above and beyond 2. They already met with both Chairman Durand and I and have an amazing documentation system for games 3. They are sustainable for the future and have thought a lot about it 4. They are extremely organized and have a plan 5. Yields time to Chairman Durand a. They have a plan for the graduate members, and are aware of the issue. They plan to work with OSLE to eradicate this problem iv. Senator Amadio speaks against 1. My main apprehension with this club is the grad student on their e-­board in a very important position and no way to remedy that error 2. Grad Students goes against our policy series, and we have used GIHU in the past to not recognize clubs 3. Yields time to Senator Craig a. Can’t just take over position of secretary of the president v. Senator Bekios speaks for 1. In respect of our policy, they have a plan to remove the graduate students. They have forty members that can take over the treasurer’s position. He also mentioned that the actual undergraduate semester will return next semester.

Since they can’t submit a budget until next semester anyway it is irrelevant.

2. They are so unique and have gained such a huge interest on campus vi. Senator Narain speaks against 1. They really don’t need our recognition because they are thriving on their own 2. The graduate students are still in it 3. Yields time to Senator Mustazza a. They have been getting donations so they don’t necessarily need us to be efficient b. Yields time to chair Senator Mishkin motions for a moderated caucus, four speakers for one minute each i. Motion seconded ii. Motion passes unanimously iii. Senator Mishkin 1. The four corners legalist approach says we only look directly at the document and what is in it. We should follow what is in it. Graduate students often attend club meetings, and it is not unconstitutional. Our Club Relations Chair can clarify their secretary issue. They have worked so hard to explain why

they deserve our recognition, and I don’t think we should penalize them for going above and beyond. iv. Chairman Durand 1. We already have a good relationship and have meetings set up for the future. He specifically said to Max and myself that promotion and co-­sponsorship is most important to them 2. Yields time to Senator Mustazza a. They are so accommodating to their members b. Yields time to Senator Bekios i. We have changed our policy series to require more and they have done that v. Chairwoman Casey 1. I think about two things, how they can help them and how they can help us. We can help them with storage. In regards to funding, this is one of my favorite clubs because I am not against funding clubs but against funding clubs that do not help themselves, they do not do this. They are totally unique and can add something to what we already have. They are friendly and nice and have huge numbers 2. Yields time to Chairman Kutsch a. They are such a healthy dynamic, understand rules vi. Senator Martin 1. It should be noted how far they’ve come in one year. They now have 26 board games, they used to have only the president’s board games. He has connections within the board game world. This can be great for the Hofstra community 2. Yields time to Senator Bielunas a. We have recognized clubs who have done a lot less than this club has. This is a niche people want. e. Vote i. Last weekly meetings where funds will be allocated ii. Passing around Funding Reference Sheet handout to prepare for Budget Appeals 1. Bolded box shows what was cut this particular Budget Weekend, and stand as if they are the policy series 2. These policies can be overturned with a 2/3 vote, but this seems unfair to other clubs 3. Club budget emails will go out this Wednesday 11/23, and Budget Appeals will be open until Friday 11/25 4. Budget Appeals will take place on Thursday 12/1 at 7:15 p.m. – Business Casual Attire 5. If there is no motion, allocated amount remains the same 6. If there is a motion to allocate further funds, debate will occur 7. If someone wants one amount and another person wants a different amount, a second motion can be made after the vote on the original motion 8. Meeting may go for a long time, so we must remain on the ball and efficient
