Senator Gonzalez Accepts iii. Senator Bielunas speaks for three minutes 1. Introduces himself as a Chief Justice for the last three years aside from his semester in Washington D.C. He has served on Club Relations before, during his freshman year, and participates in office inspections, reallocations, and even dealt with an incident involving a club. He has a strong idea of what Club Relations does and what they can do to best serve the clubs. He doesn’t want to be only a disciplinarian, but wants to help to grow and support clubs. He would like to form a tighter relationship with the Judicial Panel, the counterbalance of Senate. In fostering that relationship, concerns can be streamlined and government legitimacy can be increased.

Senator Bielunas is questioned for three minutes a. Senator Craig, “Any initiatives or plans?” i. One free strike for office inspections, aside from series infractions such as alcohol, drugs, etc., to help clubs better understand guidelines b. Senator Irish, “What do you think is the most significant role in club relations?” i. Giving clubs a voice in SGA, the strength is giving a voice to clubs especially if they feel they are not being treated fairly c. Chairwoman Wright, “How do you want to see yourself in Cabinet?” i. I’m very motivated, and when I am passionate about something I really do a good job. On Judicial Panel I was the only justice and because of my motivation we finally reached a full and legitimate panel. I want to advocate for clubs and the Judicial Panel. iv. Senator Durand speaks for three minutes 1. Apologies for sickness. Introduces himself and explains his past consisting of the appropriations committee and current role of Ethics and Conduct Chair as well as a senator on the Rules committee. Explains role of Club Relations according to the constitution, and his first plan is to go to club offices and introduce himself, highlighting that he is ready and willing to help. He wants to meet with clubs, particularly those without offices to teach them how we can help. He wants to foster healthy relationships with clubs.

He also wants to get ideas from both SGA and clubs on how he can better help them. Finally, he would like to guide new club leaders around the new process, especially entirely new e-­boards. He wants to ease the transition for these types of clubs.

2. Senator Durand is questioned for three minutes a. Senator Denton, “Will you be fully able to commit your time?” i. Yes, rules meets immediately after Club Relations b. Senator Mustazza “Any initiatives to strengthen bond between SGA and clubs?” i. I feel that clubs still aren’t aware that we are here. My first initiative is to just get to know clubs, and to put a face to a name. c. Senator Valerio, “What are some ways that clubs that don’t have office spaces to connect to you and SGA?” i. We have had a problem with getting a response to clubs, so I would like to send committee members to club meetings to introduce themselves d. Senator Crofts, “How would you respond if a club said they did not want to have a meeting?” i. I would let them know that we are here if they ever change their minds e. Senator Amadio, “What are your strengths?” i. Currently, I am a transfer mentor and have participated in many leadership conferences. I know how to make people feel comfortable and adjust my actions to accommodate other personalities. v. Senator Narain speaks for three minutes 1. Introduces herself as a sophomore marketing major. Helping people makes her happy, and to know she can help a club get things done will be very fulfilling. Clubs haven’t been able to do things they want to do because they haven’t gotten the help they need. We can change this. I am a very social person, a people person, friendly, and a good problem solver. I would find a solution to a club’s problem no matter what. I have spoken with Lola, the previous chair, and would like to follow through with her initiatives like a template and going to events as a committee. We would also make leadership-­training videos for e-­boards. My own initiatives include co-­ sponsorship to teach clubs to work together and help everyone get better. I would like to work with the Public Relations committee to increase club advertising. I have looked over policy and spoken to clubs, and I know I can get the job done! My heart is in it.

2. Senator Narain is questioned for three minutes

Senator Bekios, “How would you run a meeting?” i. I would start off with whatever we are working on that day. I would then ask each committee member about possible initiatives, if they need help, or if they have heard from clubs. b. Comptroller Senderowicz, “If a club is angry about policy and takes it out on you, how would you handle it?” i. I would not take it personally. I understand people get upset and I would handle it in that way. c. Senator Gardner, “What leadership experience do you have?” i. In high school I spearheaded a lot of volunteer work such as food drives, decorating the school sitting on the prom committee. Though I was quiet next year I am ready this year. d. Senator Amadio, “How do you plan to increase co-­sponsorship?” i. I am going to look through all the clubs and their descriptions and sit similar clubs down to have events happen. I would facilitate contact and help if they seem interested. e. Senator Martin, “How will your unique qualities compliment those in cabinet?” i. I am a go-­getter and I will always step up and do something. I am always ready to do anything and I think that would help. vi. Senator Read speaks for three minutes 1. Introduces herself and hands out a packet. She is a sophomore business management major and a first year senator who is still learning the ins and outs. She initially was not ready but once she looked further into what club relations does, she spoke to previous chairs and committee members and learned there is no comprehensive mission statement of Club Relations!

She also learned they are in a re-­branding process who are trying to find themselves, and she thinks this a fantastic thing, which lead her into her “plan of action” which includes both short and long term goals. She wants to create “open office hours” for clubs to stop by. She would also like to make sure clubs go through rules and then attend club relations to clarify any confusion. She would like to set up pride emails for all clubs and also to create educational videos to save time. She is a member of RHA where she is the PR chair and is chartering a DECA chapter at Hofstra. Because of this experience she feels ready to take on this role!

2. Senator Read is questioned for three minutes a. Senator Anderson, “How will you balance everything?” i. My three priorities are academics, RHA and SGA, and my sanity. I have excellent time management skills since high school when I became very active around campus. b. Senator Craig, “Can you elaborate on official pride emails for clubs?” i. I think it will be beneficial because sometimes emails on GetInvolvedHU there are many different emails listed.

This way we can pass emails down and coordinate a Google Calendar. c. Chairman Kutsch, “How would you work with other committees? i. I would work with rules and the PR committee for flyers and streamlining the process. d. Senator Bekios, “Can you expand ‘activity’?” i. Icebreakers for people to get to know each other e. Chairwoman Wright, “How can you compliment cabinet?” i. As a fresh set of eyes, I can bring in a new set of eyes. I want to learn and am willing to do whatever I can to do so. vii. Senator Gonzalez speaks for three minutes 1. Introduces himself as a sophomore. He wants to be very honest and concise. He wants to provide a clear image for club relations and a positive relationship with all clubs. This includes holding fundraisers and helping, creating friendships with e-­board, a suggestion box for clubs, and keeping an event calendar. Working with Club Relations and spirit will also be important. I am capable of being respectful of all opinions will remaining

realistic. I love working with people and being social, and I understand that some conversations may be difficult but I feel prepared for those conversations. I would like to keep communication on all fronts, with clubs, senators, cabinet members etc. I would make clear and transparent communication priority. I feel that club relations will help me to grow and flourish as a person, and to create a better image for us.

2. Senator Gonzalez is questioned for three minutes a. Chairwoman Wright, “What else do you do on campus?” i. I am a member of the Hofstra Dutchmen, and the treasurer. I am in the Peer-­Alliance Global Mentor program for international students. I am also in Tau Epsilon Phi. ii. “How can you balance all that?”

1. I may be very stressed, but I love that. It gives me a rush and that is when I feel at home. I am not incredible at time management but am very organized. b. Senator Ismail, “How would you promote co-­sponsorship?” i. I would like to get attendance up to club events by working with public relations or spirit. I would also like to have fundraisers with clubs, I am not sure how but I would be interested in figuring that out. c. Senator McCoy, “How will you get your committee involved and enthusiastic?” i. I love being enthusiastic, even when I seem like I am not.

When I am in a leadership position I maintain a very professional look and act very excited and passionate. I love making people laugh and feel involved, and I think that creates a positive response from people. viii. Speakers for 1. Senator Bekios speaks for Senator Bielunas a. Because he has been in SGA since freshman year he understands all of our policies. His experience as Chief Justice he understands how club relations overlaps with that. He knows a lot of clubs on campus and will begin face time right away.

2. Chairwoman Normandin speaks for Senator Durand a. No better candidate, the facts that he referenced the constitution shows how prepared he is. His initiatives and work ethic shows how great he will be. He was so sick all week and made every single meeting. I think he is professional and approachable, and his experience on rules and appropriations will help b. Chairwoman Normandin yields time to Chairwoman Casey i. He already knows many club questions from his prior experience 3. Senator Craig speaks for Senator Narain a. She showed a lot of enthusiasm and dedication b. Yields time to Chairwoman Wright i. She has a lot of great ideas and brings that to the time, she is a go-­getter and a dreamer ii. Yields time to Senator Ramirez 1. Wants to finish what Lola started 4. Senator Mustazza speaks for Senator Read a. She is qualified because her ideas are organized and she want to both improve and expand the committee b. Senator Mustazza yields time to Senator Tadbiri i. She has so many great ideas such as open office hours for time face-­to-­face, and this will increase their inclination to come talk to us. Working with rules will facilitate when clubs come into senate and help prepared them. Pride emails will definitely be helpful and are necessary 5. Senator McCoy speaks for Senator Gonzalez a. He wants to create clearness and transparency. Fundraising, a suggestion box, and a calendar are all great ideas. He is very open-­minded which is important but even more important is being

realistic, which he is. I think it would nice to see him grow as a person. b. Senator McCoy yields time to Senator Ramirez i. I think it is important that he admitted his weaknesses 6. Senator Gardner speaks for Senator Bielunas a. He was able to completely rebuild Judicial Panel and will be able to do the same for the Club Relations committee. He is very personable which is important to this position. He is also so involved b. Senator Gardner yields time to Chairwoman Casey i. Whenever Rob puts his mind to something he gets it done. He is also a well of knowledge especially about SGA 7. Chairwoman Kutsch speaks for Senator Durand a. He is very organized, professional, and a pleasure to work with. He is very balanced between SGA and his personal life. He doesn’t shy away from responsibility. Most importantly, he gets things done. He will take on anything to help others and he will always get those things done. b. Chairman Kutsch yields time to Chairwoman Wright i. David is the image of the perfect senator 8. Senator Martin speaks for Senator Narain a. Janet was so composed, more than ever before. She was so enthusiastic and prepared. She is so honest and open and clearly took the time to be prepared here today. This may be another side of Janet and shows her dedication today. She included old and new initiatives and spoke about her problem solving abilities in high school which shows how effective she can be b. Senator Martin yields time to Senator Anderson i. She has an amazing outgoing and friendly personality which is great for working with clubs 9. Chairwoman Wright speaks for Senator Read a. Sandra is on my committee and she is already a shining star. She came with a plan and to me that shows a lot of promise and hope.

She admits she is busy but highlights her time management skills.

She talked to numerous committee chairs from the past and committee members which shows how devoted and prepared she is 10. Senator Valerio speaks for Senator Gonzalez a. Really struck him how Armando admitted his flaws which shows how honest and transparent he is. His fundraising idea is a great one and highlights how we can help clubs. It helps clubs to rely not solely on SGA funds. The suggestion box idea will provide feedback from clubs. He was not afraid to stand up even as a new senator and that shows that he is courageous. ix. A vote is held by secret ballot 1. There is a tie between Senator Durand and Senator Read 2. A run-­off vote will occur a. Senator Durand is elected Club Relations Chair Committee Chair Reports A. i. Wants to increase transparency and create more documentation ii. Senator Labrie and Senator Radeva joined the committee iii. Clubs coming for recognition 1. American String Teachers Association a. Has over 40 members b. Brought teaching materials 2. Pride Student Veterans Organization a. Came last meeting but did not have enough members b. They now have enough members c. Discussed certain funding problems such as overseas shipping iv. Constitutional Meetings 1. Hofstra Men’s Rugby Club came to update but are retuning next week 2. Music and Entertainment Industry Student Association v. Many Initiatives on the table

Motion is seconded 2. Motion passes unanimously New Business A. SGA Club Recognition Hearing i. Pride Students Veteran Organization (PSVO) 1. Given five minutes of speaking time a. Thanks senate for seeing them again. Got some feedback from our organization that he really appreciated and he feels he can now better explain how he can leverage his experiences to get recognition they need. As veterans they have done things, seen things, and been places that cannot even be imagined. Returning to civilian life is like pressing a reset button and it is a huge struggle. They are coming to us to help them and to help other veterans. A lot of them don’t know where to turn and cannot relate and they want to change that. They’ve been talking to all different groups and they think with our recognition they will have a platform to do that. Above all, they want to be helped and to provide help.

The leadership experience they have through combat and leaving that behind is a huge challenge. They want to be involved. They sat down with some of our members today, and they have spoken to Rita and Max and have found what else we have to offer such as being a liaison between clubs and working together as a university. We are always going to be a veteran-­centered club but we want everyone there, every single one of you. We have high caliber men and women who have done so much for this country and it would help the whole community to hear what they have done. I know membership was an issue last time, as I was unaware that all of our members have to be on the GetInvolvedHU platform, but we have fixed that.

2. Five minutes of questioning a. Chairwoman Normandin, “Can you elaborate on fundraisers?” i. This semester we already have a couple. We are going to be doing a Thanksgiving drive, which will fall during Student Appreciation week as long as Veteran’s Day. We will also be running a Toys for Tots drive during the holidays to provide underprivileged children with holiday gifts. We would also like to work with the Marine Corp group that is based in Garden City. We also have something called “Angel Bikes” which donates handicapped hand-­bikes to deserving veterans who do not have lower extremity functions. We already have a bike and will be looking for a candidate as well as holding a fundraiser to donate other things to the family of that wounded veteran. We have been thinking about a 5K to raise money as well for our organization and will be campus wide, and we would like to include the ROTC program as well. As veterans we also have resources we can tap into that others cant, such as the National Veterans Association Club, The VFW, and the American Legion. We want to help many causes not just veterans here at Hofstra or the Hofstra community. b. Senator Gordon, “How do you plan to get non-­vets and non-­ military people involved?” i. This was a huge topic of discussion at our last meeting.

We’ve decided we need to market ourselves as inclusive people and get our name out there for different events to get people involved. He would like to utilize the Club Relations committee for co-­sponsorship and advertising. c. Chairman Durand motions to skip debate and go straight to a vote i. Motion is seconded

America String Teachers Association (ASTA) 1. Given five minutes of speaking time a. Pull up a PowerPoint presentation and hand out a handout b. They are a chapter of a national group, which addresses the importance of string education in NYS education. It will help improve string educators and other musical educators improve string instrument knowledge. They have been growing very steadily, with a GIHU count of forty-­two and attendance at the first meeting at thirty-­two. At their first meeting, they performed an interest survey as to what their members would like to see, such as volunteering at string festivals, teaching opportunities, and guest speakers. c. Twelve club members are running for their e-­board this semester, and as a club that has only existed for four years they are very proud of that. They have had three meetings already, one in which an alumna came to speak to the club, and the third meeting included an expert of beginner string teaching, by request of the club. d. Anyone interested in string playing or instruments can come, we have had numerous non-­music majors attend as well and we would love to continue to encourage that. e. Touched upon ASTA National Membership, but because if it’s exclusivity members are not required to join. f. They want SGA membership namely for recruitment purposes.

People are more likely to get into medical school with a music degree, and they’d love to share facts like this with Hofstra students. g. Chairwoman Normandin motions to extend speaking time by two minutes i. Motion is seconded ii. Motion passes unanimously. h. The music department’s grant has expired and they can use funding, and they would also like to cooperate in general with Hofstra University and with other clubs. They would like to have public concerts, increase advertising, and invite any member of the Pride to join. They stressed on and off campus events as well.

They want to join orchestras, which many do not know are open to anyone not only music majors.

2. Five minutes worth of questioning a. Chairwoman Wright, “How would you collaborate with other organizations?” i. Since music education is already a tight-­nit group we have already worked together. In regards to those clubs that are not music based, we would love to collaborate with any performance groups across campus. b. Senator Valerio, “How much are dues?” i. Dues are currently set at five dollars ii. “Do you provide instruments?”

1. We can rent instruments through the music department, and we have methods classes to teach very beginner skills through the music department. We would like to supplement those skills c. President Gallagher, “Do you guys have graduate students?” i. No ii. “The D’Addario grant has been moved to the playhouse, would you consider trying to recover that to the music department?”

1. We do not really have the ability to speak on that but I’m sure they would like that d. Senator Amadio, “Why do you want SGA recognition?”

National dues are set at $57 dollars, which is not required but encouraged, and we do not receive funding from the National Organization Senator Amadio, “How do you plan to include the entire Pride community?” i. We just want to spread music and interest around the campus to everyone, advanced or beginner. A huge percent of our membership are not string players and we love that.

Debate a. Senator Mishkin speaks for i. My roommate plays the harp and it just sits in our room, this type of club exists for so many other instruments.

The strings are the biggest part of an orchestra and that shows how much we need this. There can be so many collaborations around campus. We need more music on this campus! ii. Senator Mishkin yields time to Senator Ismail 1. They are very open b. Senator Amadio speaks against i. They are a very expensive club and a limited scope. I do not feel it applies to the general population of Hofstra 1. Senator Amadio yields time to Chairman Kutsch a. They can always come back when they are more prepared for this role b. Chairman Kutsch yields time to Chairwoman Wright i. They could not answer the question about non0musical clubs and that is something that is important for SGA recognition c. Senator Bekios speaks for i. They have been a club for four years and have waited for this. They have waited and realized this now, which shows they are ready. They can use PR as I have never heard of them. ii. Senator Bekios yields time to Senator Mishkin 1. We cannot say no because they require and ask for a lot of money we can choose to not fund them as we do other expensive clubs. We expect an answer for them and when we don’t get it we are upset which isn’t fair 2. Senator Mishkin yields time to Chairman Durand a. I think they were just nervous and that is why they avoided Chairwoman Wright’s question d. Senator Mustazza speaks against i. I do not think they need SGA recognition to be successful, they have grown exponentially over the years. I am sure the music department advertises for them greatly. ii. The more clubs spend money, the better events we will have on campus and this will encourage community and enhance Hofstra as a whole Responsibilities a. Reach out to the club i. Go to GetInvolvedHU (GIHU) ii. Search to the club iii. Click on the “About” tab iv. Copy the Treasurer’s email (or Primary Contact or President if Treasurer isn’t there) v. Paste the email and the email template into the message 1. You will need to fill in Club Name and your personal availability 2. Please CC me on your original email vi.
