The realignment of the world after 1945, the “Stunde Null” of Germany and Europe, is not recounted here as the history of the Cold War ideological blocs. Rather, the project focuses on the intertwining of European and African history in the process of decolonization. At its center are art installations and films by John Akomfrah, The Otolith Group, Kader Attia, Yervant Gianikian & Angela Ricci Lucchi, and Jihan El-Tahri, representatives of the re-examination of the Western modern age and the values it posited as universal. A program of discussions and films (October 3–5 and November 23–24) explores “geographies of collaboration” with reference to the first Asian-African conference, in Bandung in 1955, which launched the Non-Aligned Movement.
