香 港 大 學 各 學 院 的 評 分 準 則 各 有 不 同，因 此 各 學 院 以 至 學 系 之 間 的 成 績 差 距 極 大，有 些 學 院 過 三 是 等 閒，有 的 卻 難 如 登 天；同 樣 問 題 在 院 校 與 院 校 之 間 亦 有 發 生，每 一 間 院 校 所 採 用 的 GPA 制 度、評 分 準 則 亦 有 不 同，令 各 間 院 校 的 成 績 有 不 小 的 差 距。為 解 決 港 大 學 生 GPA 偏 低 的 問 題，校 方 在 2011 至 2012 年 度 開 始 實 施 新 的 評 分 制 度：
1. 拉 闊 GPA 的 數 值 範 圍，A+ 相 等 於 4.3 的 GPA。 2 . 合 格 與 不 合 格 的 科 目 都 會 計 算 至 cGPA，並 用 於 計 算 honour；若 之 後 再 報 讀 同 一 科 目，該 學 科 成 績 不 會 被 扣 減。
3 . 即 使 同 學 在 一 個 或 以 上 的 學 科 獲 得 不 合 格 的 成 績，亦 不 會 被 奪 去 取 得 F ir st Honour 的 資 格。 4 . 所 有 學 科 的 評 分 以 標 準 評 分 取 代 以 往 的 拉 curve。 The Grade Point Average (GPA) is a grading system adopted by universities for calculating students’ academic results (except for the BDS and MBBS curricula). You will see two kinds of GPA when you check your grades. The semester GPA (sGPA) is the average score of courses you’ve studied in a semester, and the cumulative GPA (cGPA) is the average score of all courses you’ve taken since Year 1. GPA is a weighted average, and the weight of each course is proportional to the number of credits it bears. The university takes cGPA as a reference to classify honours for students. Since every faculty in HKU has its own scoring criteria, there is a huge variation in GPA among students of different departments and faculties. In some faculties, it may be very easy for students to get a GPA of 3.0 or above; in other faculties, the same achievement may be much more difficult. The same problem exists on the university level as well—since each university adopts different GPA systems and scoring criteria, students’ GPA level differ greatly from university to university. To solve the problem of relatively low GPA of HKU students, the university adopted a new scoring system in 2011–2012: 1. The GPA scale was widened. An A+ is now equal to a grade point of 4.3. 2. Grades of all courses, whether pass or fail, will be calculated towards your cGPA. If you want to retake courses that you have failed, there will not be any penalty. 3. Students will not be disqualified from getting a First Class Honour even if they have failed one or more courses. 4. All grades now use standard referencing instead of normal referencing in their scoring systems.
