Second, we must nurture both our body and soul. In as much as we feed our body with excellent nutrients, enough sleep and exercise to keep it healthy, let us feed our soul with corporal and spiritual acts of mercy. Furthermore, St. Paul reminds the Corinthians that their bodies are members of Christ and temples of the Holy Spirit. It follows for us that we must treat our bodies and those of others with the utmost respect and reverence for they are the expression of our souls and destined to share in eternal glory with Jesus and Mary.
Dearly Beloved parishioners, We are celebrating tomorrow, August 22, the memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary after the solemnity of the Assumption that we celebrated last week. As in all the mysteries of Mary’s life, she is closely associated with Jesus-- Her queenship is a share in Jesus’ kingship. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (August 15), and her proclamation as queen of heaven and earth (August 22) is not only about her life. It is also about ourselves so that I would like to highlight three points on these two big events in Mary’s life.
First, we are called to become bearers of Jesus. In the visitation story, it tells us that Mary brought the Lord to Elizabeth in a very embodied way. She literally carried the Lord to Elizabeth in her body, in her womb. We too are called to embody the Lord, to allow Him to reveal himself to others. If in the nativity of Jesus, it was fulfilled that the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, the same Word who is Jesus seeks to become flesh in us. If Mary sang of God in her Magnificat as one who exalts the lowly and fills the hungry with good things, she acknowledged God as one who is deeply concerned about people’s physical well-being. Let us make the concern of God our own so that Jesus whom we bear is made known in our present world.

Sincerely yours in Christ, I am Fr. Efren Ambre On the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, both parishes made the event so special through the recitation of the Holy Rosary.

Third, we hope to be what Mary has become. The great things that God has done for Mary is a pointer to the great things that God wants to do for all of us. We believe that God will raise us, too, body and soul, to new life after our own death. The doctrine of Mary’s bodily assumption into heaven and her queenship bring home to us that our bodies are destined to be gloriously changed after death. We believe that the life that God gives us after death will be a life of soul and body as witnessed in the assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary as queen of heaven and earth. Let us continue to ask for the intercession of Mary so that like her, we always do the will of God in our lives- by becoming bearers of Jesus; nurturing both our body and soul; and, hoping to be what Mary has become. God bless us all.

I am also happy to introduce Tiffany Miller, our new part-time Business Manager. As I say farewell to Shannon, I also extend my warm welcome to Tiffany. I wish her the best and please extend your support to her as she starts this new job in her life. Let us journey together towards the Lord in building the reign of God in this part of the Diocese of Greensburg. ~Fr. Efren At this juncture, I thank our dearly beloved Shannon Sealy for the selfless services she rendered in our partner parishes as a full time Business Manager and a Parish Secretary for 11 years. I thank her family, too, for their support in the services she has given us. We will surely miss her but we extend our best wishes and good luck as she kicks off her job at the California University of Pennsylvania. We continue praying for her career success and for the continuous physical well-being of her daughter, Olivia.
