Colossians 4:17-18 draw to a close the letter Paul wrote to the church at Colossae. My Sunday School class finished this book recently, and there are some great encouragements for us in these last two verses. The text reads, “Tell Archippus, “Pay attention to the ministry you have received in the Lord, so that you can accomplish it.” I, Paul, am writing this greeting with my own hand. Remember my chains. Grace be with you.” (CSB) Paul’s message to Archippus is to pay attention to the ministry God has given him so that it may be accomplished. This is a great encouragement to us at Hillview to keep our eyes focused firmly on the risen Lord and do the work of the ministry. It is important that we draw together in unity as our church grows, reaches our community, and presses toward fulfilling the mission and vision of our church. As Bro. Donald said on Sunday morning, August 26, we must be like Nehemiah when he proclaimed in Nehemiah 6:3, “I am doing important work and cannot come down [off the wall].” God has great things in store for Hillview Church if we will listen to the Holy Spirit and follow Him. The second thing that stood out to me about Paul’s closing words in Colossians is found in verse 18. He writes, “Remember my chains.” These words remind us of the cost of the Gospel for Paul. Paul served faithfully, even to the point of being in prison because of his faith. Are we able to stand up to the pressure of the world in our own faith? Further, are we WILLING to stand up to pressure from the world no matter the cost?? Paul closes by saying, “Grace be with you.” It is only by the grace of God that we would even remotely be able to stand under the weight of persecution and pressure from the world. Be encouraged, church, that God’s grace stands sufficient for all our needs! God’s grace is all we need. In the famous words of John Newton, “’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home."

Dear Hillview Church Family Suzanne and I are most blessed to be with you for this amazing journey we find ourselves on. The Lord is truly at work in our fellowship. We praise His Name and give Him the glory. Last night at Wednesday Prayer and Bible Study we looked at John 13:34–35 (NASB95). 34 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 “By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” The two main points of the lesson were that LOVING ONE ANOTHER was EXPECTED by JESUS’ teaching and then all men would see that LOVE REFLECTED. It is a command and a witness. We commend you on expressing the love that Jesus describes here. Thank you for being Jesus men and women. Love is abounding at the HILL.
