Fellowship Meal Wednesday, June 20 6:30 PM Church will furnish the meat. Bring sides, salads, desserts, and drinks. Come join us as we gather around the table to share a meal and enjoy a good time of fellowship.

From our Associate Pastor of Music and Discipleship “When you’re lonely… Jesus Rescues!” “When you worry… Jesus Rescues!” “When you struggle… Jesus Rescues!” “When you do wrong… Jesus Rescues!” “When you’re powerless… Jesus Rescues!” — What do you do when you find yourself surrounded by the troubles of the world? Do you rest on the promise in Bible that the Lord is our Rock (Isaiah 26:4)? Do you believe “the Lord will hold you close” (Psalm 27:10)? All these questions and more are the focus of our Vacation Bible School: Shipwrecked 2018. The first five phrases above are the daily Bible points that the kids will be learning. Jesus is the constant in an ever changing and sometimes brutal world in which we live, and JESUS RESCUES! I sincerely hope you will bring your children, grandchildren, neighbors, friends, etc. to VBS this year. It’s going to be a wonderful week of learning about Jesus! Plan to be there June 24-28 from 6:30-9:00pm nightly! It’s so much fun! Speaking of VBS we need YOU to be a part of helping us out this year. Prior to our VBS starting we are having a community outreach day on Saturday, June 16. We will meet at the church at 9:30am to prayer walk our church, then divide up and send teams out into the surrounding neighborhoods to pass out postcards for VBS to invite families to come, and to prayer walk the neighborhoods. We should be finished by 11am before it gets too hot outside. If you can’t join us on June 16, you can still be a part! Pick up some postcards from me and hand them out to folks. Also, please be in prayer for our VBS week. I have been praying that we have 50 children for the week. I know that’s an ambitious goal, but we serve a mighty and amazing God. He could bring 500 children if He so desired. Regardless of how many we have, we are going to pour our hearts into these kids. We want them to know that we love them! Pray for our workers. Pray for the children. Pray that the Holy Spirit would touch hearts and lives. Pray, pray, pray!

June 2018 | Vol 5, Issue 6 From Our Pastor

In LifeWay’s pastor search handbook, Robert Sheffield writes, “Many church members see the period between pastors as the “hold things together and keep things going” period. Nominal church members likely view it as the “wait and see” period. Church members who attend only Sunday-morning services may use it as the “I’ll just stay home since my preacher left us” period. Prospective church members often treat it as the “a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush; look elsewhere” period. But with effective transitional leadership, the period between pastors can be very productive—a time of growth in personal and congregational worship, evangelism, fellowship, discipleship, and personal and family ministries.” Mr. Sheffield articulates something that I attempted to share from the pulpit two weeks ago. Specifically, he highlights the importance of effective transitional leadership. Under effective leaders, I envision a fruitful season for the Hillview family. God has provided for Hillview with a godly associate pastor in Josh, a humble, willing servant in Shirley, and spiritually mature men to serve as deacons. In Donald Pope, God provided an experienced, tenderhearted, passionate man to serve as transitional pastor. The Pastor Search Committee is a group of discerning, faithful believers who will serve well to accomplish their assignment. Please pray for Dixie Lee Maxwell, Gary Ricketts, Larry Shealy, Jimmy Splawn, and Faye Sullivan as they seek the Lord for the man He has prepared to shepherd this local body of believers. Finally, please know that constant prayers will be offered on my behalf for these leaders and this church in the days ahead. It has been a great joy to serve as your pastor!
