Associational Choir Workshop Saturday, January 20 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM We will be hosting this event. Lunch provided.

From our Associate Pastor of Music and Discipleship December 2017 is soon to be but a memory as time is quickly moving forward. December brought us at Hillview one of the greatest Sunday School attendances in the history of the church. The Advent in Action focus gave our church the needed momentum to begin inviting our unchurched friends and neighbors to church. Couple that with the wonderful job the choir did on our cantata and the exciting other worship opportunities offered and you begin to see why Hillview is such a special place to serve. The year ahead gives us new opportunities to continue in our growth as disciples of Jesus Christ. On February 10-11 we will be hosting a Disciple-Makers weekend with Rev. Tom Capps, Missions Ministry Director of the Three Rivers Baptist Association. Tom often serves on special assignments in the SC Baptist Convention through leadership development with Sunday School and other ministries. I hope you will make plans to be with us that weekend as we seek to fulfill our commission to make disciples! Hillview Baptist Church has an exciting future, and we want YOU to be a part of the great things happening here. Jesus said in Matthew 28:19-20, “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you…” (HCSB) - Jesus called us to be disciple-makers. Let’s all resolve to get on board in the new year as we make disciples for His glory and for the Kingdom!

January 2018 | Vol 5, Issue 1

From Our Pastor Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude (Colossians 2:6-7).

At VBS this year, the kids were taught some classic children’s songs—including, “Deep and Wide.” That song, of course, is about the limitless nature of God’s love. We have all been recipients of His love and grace that has no boundaries. How will you respond to His love? One of the goals that was established at the onset of 2017 was that we grow as disciple -makers and emphasize Sunday School. Mitch Verdell spent a month helping us evaluate our current ministries and gave us some great insights on how to improve in the present and prepare for the future. And we finished the year strong in these areas. We set a record for Sunday school attendance in December. We also closed the year with more discipleship efforts in our children’s department. My prayer for Hillview in 2018 is that we continue to grow Deeper and Wider as believers—cultivating deeper roots of prayer and devotion in the Lord in our personal lives. As we grow deeper, we should also overflow into wider relationships with one another. I want to encourage you to make Sunday school and our group Bible studies a priority. It is also important for us to widen our reach in our community by inviting others to grow Deeper and Wider with us. Thank you for the privilege of being your pastor. I pray that each of you have a wonderful Christmas celebrating the birth of our Savior and a great New Year in the Lord.
