From our Associate Pastor of Music and Discipleship On February 10-11 we held our Disciple-Makers weekend with Tom Capps from the Three Rivers Baptist Association. That weekend impacted me greatly. Although I have heard the teaching of Bro. Tom before, something stood out to me that weekend. Tom asked us a question: “Do you want your church to grow, or do you want to reach your community?” So I ask that same question to you: Do we want to grow our church or reach our community? This question causes me to step back and take a look at my focus. Am I focused on just seeing people come through the doors of the building, or am I focused on seeing relationships built and Jesus being modeled to those in our communities? Here’s a secret: if we focus on being disciple makers, church growth will happen. But we will not grow just in numbers. We will be building a church of people who are on mission to serve their communities, build relationships, and share the Gospel. Sunday School classes have been asked to begin to look at a way that they can reach into our communities. We have an opportunity coming up March 31 to serve our community as we host a community Easter Egg hunt. Will you join me in surrendering to the movement of the Holy Spirit here at Hillview? God is up to something big, and He wants us all to be a part of fulfilling the Great Commission.

March 2018 | Vol 5, Issue 3 From Our Pastor Victory Over Death As I write this article, news of Billy Graham’s passing is making waves across America. In modern times, Graham’s ministry and impact is unmatched. He was a visionary in an age of rapid technological advance. He seized every opportunity to plant seeds of hope through the preaching of the gospel. Let us praise God and be thankful for a man who made tremendous sacrifices in order to point people to the sacrifice of the cross! The seeds of Billy Graham’s ministry are still bearing fruit today. When a person surrenders his whole life to be used as a vessel for God’s kingdom work, even his death spreads the beautiful aroma of the Good News! If you have not yet yielded your all to the Holy Spirit, will you do so today? Entrust Team It is an exciting time to be part of Hillview Baptist Church. The improvement to the church grounds is a longterm investment that addresses some critical issues with erosion, but it is also an expression of our desire to give our best to the Lord and to be good stewards of the property that He has entrusted to us. These sorts of projects are part of the journey for all churches. Let us keep our focus on exalting Christ in this season, with the goal of leaving a legacy for His glory. Please continue praying for the formation of the Entrust Team, as the Deacons will be contacting nominees in order to present a final list to the church for a subsequent ballot vote. On Mission Here and Now March is an important month for Southern Baptists. Beginning the first Sunday, March 4, we will join millions of believers in the Week of Prayer for North American Missions. This year’s Annie Armstrong theme is On Mission Here and Now. What an apt description of what God has called us to do—we are to partner with Him in the present, where we reside. Getting the gospel to the ends of the earth is necessary, but the local church cannot neglect its immediate neighbors. Will you commit to be actively on mission with God as you also pray for and give to our home missionaries?
