New Members Donald & Suzanne Pope Steve & Mary Phillips Mike & Felicia McAlpin Carolyn Ricketts Vacation Bible School Report

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to all the workers, children, and parents who made Shipwrecked VBS possible! This year was a HUGE success, and Hillview Baptist has made an impact for the Kingdom of God this year. On average, we had 27 children present each night! Praise the Lord! It was an absolutely wonderful week of praising God, learning that whatever life throws at you, Jesus rescues, and just plain FUN! I want to thank every rotation leader, crew leader, worship leader, security folks, and every other adult that came to hang out with the kids, love on them, and show them Jesus in a very tangible way. The impact you had on the children will be eternal. But I’m sure, if asked, the impact the children made on you is just as strong. I can’t say it enough… God has great things in store for Hillview Church! Let’s keep our eyes focused on HIM as we move toward the future! The next thing on our radar after VBS is some follow up visits and cards that will need to be sent. If you are willing to help me follow up with VBS attendees, please let me know. Keep a watch in the bulletin as I will be scheduling a day we will get together to make some home visits. Follow up is crucial to the success of Vacation Bible School, so keep informed of the announcements in the bulletin. It’s been wonderful to serve with Landon the last 8 months. Like others, I am sad to see him go, but grateful for the example of following God’s leading. Landon and Megan will be sorely missed. I wanted to take a moment to thank Landon for his guidance, friendship, and keen awareness of the movement of the Spirit here at Hillview. He has been a wonderful pastor,

teacher, and friend. I trust you will join me in praying for the Williams family fervently in the coming weeks and months as they make their transition to Chile. May God bless the Williams family in all they do as they follow God on this adventure!

July 2018 | Vol 5, Issue 7 From Our Pastor

“The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit” (John 3:8). As Frederick Faber wrote in his famous hymn, “there’s a wideness in God’s mercy” that encourages us to trust God’s word in faith. We know that God moves upon us by His Spirit to walk in His will—from our initial surrender to Christ until our final rest in Him. To be led by the Spirit is equal parts confidence and speechlessness. Confidence that God has spoken. Speechlessness in an effort to describe the source of such confidence. Know that Megan and I have a certainty in the Lord’s call that is difficult to express in words. Six and a half years ago, God saw fit to let our lives intersect with His plan for Hillview. Over this time, the Spirit has created a beautiful tapestry. Your love and affection for our family and the genuine confidence you have placed in me as your pastor are cherished memories. A wedding and two births later, we leave with full hearts, overflowing with joy and gratitude for what God has done in and through you. We look forward to partnering with you in prayer and in person as we serve the nations as members of this church! As we have sung many times, “Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise Him all creatures here below; praise Him above ye heavenly hosts; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.”
