WMU and Men’s Ministry will meet to coordinate a Spring Mission Project.

From our Associate Pastor of Music and Discipleship When I came to Hillview last fall, I was challenged to strengthen the discipleship ministry of the church. I began praying and thinking about what discipleship looks like in the life of a church. Over the last several years I have had the opportunity to study and research what discipleship should look like in a healthy church. I have found that Sunday School is a critical ministry within the context of discipleship. On February 10-11, we are hosting a Disciple-Makers Weekend featuring Rev. Tom Capps, the Missions Ministry Director for the Three Rivers Baptist Association in the Upstate of SC. Bro. Tom is an expert in teaching churches how to reach their communities, how to live a life of discipleship and ministry, and how to use Sunday School as the reaching arm of the church. Tom is going to train us how to reach our community, and help us brainstorm so that we can fulfill our mission to Praise, Proclaim, and Pursue Jesus! I want to encourage you to join us for this great opportunity as we look to the future. The training will take place on Saturday, February 10 from 9am to 3pm (lunch included). On Sunday, February 11, we will hold a joint Sunday School training at 9:30am in the Sanctuary where Landon and I will share a vision for how our Sunday School classes can be greeters on Sunday mornings as we grow in Christian hospitality. Finally, Bro. Tom will be preaching in the morning service following Sunday School. It’s going to be a great weekend of learning, collaborating, and worship!

February 2018 | Vol 5, Issue 2

From Our Pastor At the January business meeting, the Deacon’s presented two items for the church’s consideration: the formation of a Security Team and the formation an Entrust Team. The church voted to form both teams. Below are a few details as to what each of these represent.

Security Team The Deacons have been cooperating with the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office to develop and educate a newly formed church security team. This team will care for the overall safety of our fellowship and property, including all Sunday, Wednesday, and special services. If you would like to know more details about their responsibilities and/or policies, contact the team leader, Gerald Ussery. Entrust Team The Oxford Dictionary defines entrust as: 1). To assign the responsibility for doing something to someone; 2). Put something into someone's care or protection. For Christians, we are entrusted with the task of stewarding the gospel by “living a life worthy of the calling you have received” (Ephesians 4:1, NIV). As a local church, we steward the truth of the gospel established in the Bible. We also steward the gifts that Jesus produces among us— worship, discipleship, relationships, finances, and property, among other things. The Entrust Team will evaluate and report on two specific areas regarding the church’s stewardship. First, they will complete a feasibility and impact assessment on operating a Hillview Baptist Preschool. The second item to be addressed is a long-range Facilities Plan. You will receive a letter in the mail with more details, including the nomination and election procedures. Keep in mind that this committee is not authorized to begin work on either of these items. Their only task is to make recommendations to the church. The continual growth of our church presents new opportunities and challenges. Please join me and your deacons in submitting the the leadership of the Lord as we seek to be good stewards of the gospel and its benefits in our lives.
