Sunday, December 10th 10:30 AM An African Worship Experience with music, testimony, & preaching

From our Associate Pastor of Music and Discipleship It has been a wonderful first month of serving at Hillview with all of you. It is an honor and a privilege to come alongside you as we seek to Praise, Proclaim & Pursue together. We have certainly hit the ground running! My Sunday School class has been studying the book of Nehemiah. As I was reading through chapter 4, something in verse 6 struck me. It reads, “So we rebuilt the wall until the entire wall was joined together up to half its height, for the people had the will to keep working.” (HCSB) In the New American Standard version it says the people “had a mind [or heart] to work.” During the month of December we are focusing on Advent in Action. Think about this: what would happen if we joined together like the Israelites in Nehemiah’s time (with the will and heart to work) to reach our community? For Advent in Action to be successful we have to intentionally pray, intentionally invite, and intentionally bring people with us to church. The month of December will offer some great opportunities for just that. High Attendance Sunday in Sunday School is Dec. 3. On Dec. 10 we will have the Voices of Zambia with us to lead in worship. Then on Dec. 17 we will have our annual Christmas Cantata, Candlelight, and Communion service at 6pm with our Christmas Fellowship following. Finally, on December 24 we will celebrate Christmas Eve together with Sunday School at 9:30 and worship at 10:30. These are all great opportunities to intentionally bring people to church. Let’s be like the Israelites and band together with one heart, one mind, and one goal: to reach our community for Jesus!

Christmas Time is here! The Christmas mailbox is ready for us to share Christmas greetings with our friends. A list of active members and attendees is on the hallway table and was also emailed. Please have all cards in box by Sunday, December 17. This will give us time to deliver cards to those not present.

From Our Pastor

Advent is a time to remember the dawn of the light of the world in the first coming of Christ. Moreover, when we reflect on Jesus’ birth, we tune our hearts to God’s perfect plan of salvation and propel our thoughts forward to the second coming of Christ. Advent in Action is an opportunity for Hillview to put feet to our faith in the coming of Christ—as a baby and glorious king, in a manger and in the sky. December 3 is high-attendance day. I hope you are intentionally inviting someone to join us in Sunday School and worship that day. Likewise, each week in December presents a unique worship opportunity—take advantage of inviting a friend or family member to come with you to one of these services. December always brings international missions and ministry into focus. If you haven’t already, spend time asking God how much He would have you contribute toward our church’s goal of $3,800.00 for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering that supports international missions. You can find out more at www.imb.org/lmco. Keep in mind that we will not have evening services on Sundays, December 24 and 31, as well as Wednesday evening, December 27. We will resume our regular schedule on Wednesday, January 3. I wish you all a Merry Christmas full of the hope, peace, joy, and love of Christ!

PLEASE NOTE If unable to work your scheduled nursery date, please find a replacement. If all attempts have been made and you are still unable to find a replacement, contact Lisa Shealy (803)645-5146.
