5th Sunday Night Sing Warrenville First Baptist April 29 Check Bulletin for Time

From our Associate Pastor of Music and Discipleship The month of April brings a time of refreshing along with the springtime in the CSRA. As I contemplate the Easter holiday and the “newness” that spring brings I am reminded of the Scripture that says, “Then the one seated on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new.” (Revelation 21:5, CSB) The beautiful flowers of the spring, the green grass, and the animals remind us that God is still in control. The beauty of the Resurrection is that Jesus didn’t stay dead. He’s alive! Through Jesus all things are made new. Paul reminds us that we who have confessed Jesus as Lord are dead to the old self. We are new creations created for His glory. Be comforted in the passage of Scripture that says, “Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for his mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness! I say, “The Lord is my portion, therefore I will put my hope in him.” (Lamentations 3:22–24, CSB) God is at work at Hillview Baptist. Let’s all remember that our hope is in Him, the one who defeated hell and the grave. With spring coming I am reminded that summer is right around the corner. The summer brings Vacation Bible School! I am excited about our VBS this year which will be held June 24-28 from 6:30-9:00pm nightly. We are still in need of many volunteers to help make our VBS successful. VBS is proven to be one of the best outreach tools for the local church. Many children come to faith in Christ through VBS. I am sure many of you have memories of VBS from when you were children. Now is the time to pass those memories on to the kids in our community. Will you help spread the gospel by joining with us to reach kids? If so, please let me know as soon as possible. It’s going to be a great week as we are “Shipwrecked: Saved by Jesus”.

April 2018 | Vol 5, Issue 4 From Our Pastor

Master’s Week “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone” (Luke 18:19). Years ago, when I served at Aliceville First Baptist Church, we printed a weekly newsletter, which called for some creativity. So one spring, during Master’s week, I wrote some splendid lines about how all eyes were on Augusta. Except, when the newsletter was printed, it read, “All eyes are on Atlanta.” It’s funny how some things live on in your memory. Alas, it’s spring time in Augusta, azaleas are starting to bloom, and people around the world will fix their gaze on one of the world’s most transcendent sporting events. Before the first ball is struck, however, Christians all over the world will fix their gaze on the cross. And while the world may watch the masters of golf, great champions taking aim at the sport’s most coveted prize, the Church knows that there is only One Master. When Jesus questioned why the rich young ruler called Him good, Jesus was not saying that He wasn’t worthy of being called good. Jesus challenged the young man, “If you believe that I am good, then you must believe that am God, because there’s only One worthy of that title.” Today, what do we believe about Jesus? Have we lost sight of the fact that there is no one else worthy of the title of Master? Let us be reminded that the cross may be a picture of tragedy to some, but to those who believe in and follow the Resurrected One, the cross is more beautiful than the best Augusta can offer in the spring. The cross doesn’t own the Master, the Master owns the cross. Rejoice! It’s Master’s Week!
