Memorable Moments
Discover the joy of learning at HSOG with our brand new, monthly e-newsletter, bringing you a round-up of just some of the memorable moments unfolding at Old Anniesland and Ledcameroch Road. This doesn’t replace Highlights but provides a taster of life at HSOG each month!
As the picture above shows, Junior and Senior School Eco Committees united on a litter pick around Bearsden Cross as part of their Eco Schools Green Flag Award, more details overleaf.

The halls of the Senior School have been a little quieter than usual, with Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Year pupils sitting their Prelim exams throughout January. Third Year pupils have therefore taken on greater responsibility as the eldest in school, playing crucial roles in the smooth running of school life as well as helping to coordinate a successful day of Entrance Tests for prospective pupils.
Meanwhile at Ledcameroch Road, Junior School pupils enjoyed a busy schedule on their return to school following the festive break, getting out and about on local trips and Junior 5 hosted their parents at an unforgettable Burns Supper, the first since COVID-19. We also enjoyed the chance to welcome prospective families to the Junior School for a week of ‘Getting to Know You Days’ towards the end of the month.
Rising Stars
The Senior School Music Department enjoyed over 150 solo performances from Transitus, S1 and S2 pupils as part of the annual ‘Rising Stars’ performing platform. Each pupil who performed deserves to be congratulated for their confidence and dedication to their practice.

A multitude of different instruments were on display, ranging from traditional bagpipes and Indian tabla, to vocal, violin and electric guitar performances.
Congratulations to all who put themselves forward and good luck to those who made it to the next round!
Rector, enjoying a meal in the Jimmie Ireland Stand whilst reminiscing of their time spent at Elmbank Street. As part of their class topic on money, Junior 1 enjoyed a trip to the Co-op in Bearsden to put their new-found skills to the test!

Each child brought £1 to spend and enjoyed time in the store looking for items that would be suitable to donate to the local foodbank.
They selected an appropriate item and paid for it at the till before placing it in the foodbank trolley. Great job Junior 1!
Third Year pupils stepped capably into the breach throughout January, taking on the duties normally carried out by Sixth Year Prefects whilst they had time off for prelim exam leave. Well done to all S3 pupils on their efforts, including acting as Monitors, playing games with their Transitus counterparts and enjoying having the chance to get to know them a little better.
Junior and Senior School pupils had great fun as they came together for a litter pick in Bearsden! J1-J3 members of the Junior School Eco Committee and volunteers from Third Year worked together to ensure that the local community around the Junior School was kept beautiful as part of the School’s ongoing commitment to the renewal of its Green Flag Award.

Burns Night
Junior 5 hosted a fabulous Burns Supper for their families.

Guests enjoyed an evening of songs, poems, music recitals and dancing to celebrate the life of Rabbie Burns. Of course, no Burns Supper would be complete without a delicious feast of haggis, neeps and tatties! A huge well done to J5 for organising every element of this tremendous evening - it was a triumph and the Bard would be proud!
Zanzibar Quiz Night
7:00pm, Friday 10th March 2023
Join us for our Zanzibar Quiz Night, as we raise funds towards the Kinuni School WASH Project in Zanzibar.
This summer, a group of High School pupils and members of staff will work with the WASH project to build much-needed toilet facilities at Kinuni School, running educational workshops with male and female students. The group will also renovate classrooms to provide a brighter learning space and build a perimeter wall to improve security at the school and create a sense of identity.
Support our inspiring youngsters by entering a quiz team! Teams cost £20 with a maximum of 6 people per team so choose your teammates wisely!

We were delighted to be in the company of former and current pupils, and members of the School’s wider community, as we welcomed James McNaught (Class of 2006), where he discussed his role as Associate Director, Head of Glasgow and the West Coast Scotland team at auction house, Lyon & Turnbull.
