Memorable Moments

Activities Week 2025
Transitus-S3 pupils basked in glorious sunshine during our annual Activities Week, with the timetable torn up in favour of a variety of exhilarating extracurricular activities and excursions.
A fun-filled few days included trips to Aberfoyle, New Lanark, Dundonald Castle and Mugdock Country Park, project-based learning activities and sporting challenges, as well as some vitamin D inducing DofE excursions! In school, pupils had a plethora of invigorating electives to try – from classes sampling yoga, self defence, musical theatre and baking, to Lego design days, entrepreneurship workshops and the chance to paddleboard at Dumbrock Loch, there truly was something for everyone!

March for Nepal
The Junior School’s Global Citizenship Committee recently organised ‘March for Nepal’, which helped raise more than £4,000 for charity.
Our pupils swapped school shoes for trainers as they took part in an epic sponsored walk, with the aim of clocking up 2,268 miles between them to raise awareness and funds for schools in Nepal so tragically destroyed by earthquakes and flooding. What a fantastic effort!

Out and About!

HSOG pupils have enjoyed numerous trips over the past few weeks, making the most of some scorching weather both at home and abroad.
The Easter break saw S3 and S4 pupils head to the Battlefields of Belgium and France (click here to see a gallery of images from this excursion), while S1 and S2 boys nipped across the Irish Sea to take part in an end of season rugby tour to Belfast.
Closer to home, J2 pupils illuminated their ‘Castles’ topic with a visit to Dundonald Castle in Ayrshire, J4 explored the mysteries of our planet at Dynamic Earth’s Science Centre and Planetarium in Edinburgh, and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award participants made the most of the beautiful Spring weather during recent expeditions in the great Scottish outdoors.
J1 Sharing the Learning
Junior 1 were excited to welcome parents into their classrooms to share everything they had learned from their ‘Under the Sea’ topic.
Their loved ones were blown away by all of their efforts –from an interactive ocean wall showcasing their learning in Phonics and Maths during the Autumn Term, to answering questions on a number of water-related topics.
Well done J1 and thank you to all family members for coming along to support the event!

Law Fundraising Week
Law House helped raise £2,107 for the Finding Your Feet charity during the final fundraising week of session 2024-25.
Senior pupils relished a week of fun events in March, all in aid of the brilliant charity that helps to support individuals and families affected by amputation or limb absence.

First Year pupil Rhys F (pictured right) made a splash earlier this month, claiming Scottish age grade titles in six different strokes at the Scottish Swimming National Age Group Championships in Aberdeen, claiming the title of Scottish champion in the 11-13 age category for six different strokes: 100m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly, 200m Butterfly, 100m Backstroke and 200m Individual Medley (winning the Sharp Trophy). Additionally, his team won bronze medals in two relay events: the 4x100m Freestyle and the 4x100m Medley.

Elsewhere on the sporting front... Congratulations go to our Junior 6 girls (pictured right) who became Scottish Schools’ Primary Cross Country champions in late April; well done to Olivia M (S5) who was part of the Scotland U18 hockey squad who finished third in the 6 Nations Easter Series; a fantastic effort saw our 1st XI cricket side earn a gritty draw with MCC – our boys are now undefeated since 2021 in this annual fixture.
Senior pupils competed in a number of Physics challenges recently, achieving the following results: British Olympiad – Bronze Awards for Matthew d G, Mustafa F and Alexander Z (all S6) and a Commendation for Asma A (S6); Senior Physics Challenge – Silver Award for Michael M (S5), Bronze Awards for Niamh R, Ishan R, Max V d H, Rachel Y, Henry Z and Commendations for Alasdair B-W, Andrew M and Pranav R (all S5); Intermediate Physics Challenge – Commendation for Sara A (S4).

Raasay

The S1 trip to Raasay is always a special time in the Summer Term calendar, and this year proved to be no different.
The annual Activities Week trip saw pupils bask in the sunshine as they took on all kinds of thrilling pursuits including abseiling, team-building challenges, pier jumping and a 1,000ft ascent to the peak of Dùn Caan, the highest point on the Isle of Raasay.
