Memorable Moments

Wellbeing Week 2025

February’s focus was on fostering positive mental and physical health at HSOG, courtesy of our annual wellbeing weeks at both the Junior and Senior School.

From engaging assemblies, craft-based workshops and adventurous outdoor activities, to hearing from experts and taking the time to experience moments of calm to promote positive mental wellbeing, there really was something for every single High School pupil throughout this important time in the School calendar.

Pupils’

Hit the Road

Learning has been taken on the road at the beginning of 2025 with trips throughout Europe and Scotland.

Higher and Advanced Higher Modern Language pupils took in the glittering sights of Paris, while 40 S1 and S2 pupils hit the slopes at Alp 2500, a ski resort within the Pyrenees mountains in Northern Spain.

Closer to home, J4 pupils brought their class topic to life, stepping back in time to experience the Victorian era during a trip to the UNESCO World Heritage Site at New Lanark.

PARIS

J1 Space Explorers!

As part of their ‘Day and Night’ topic, Junior 1 travelled to a galaxy... not so far away – the Planetarium at Glasgow Science Centre!

Our young learners became astronomers for the day, illuminating their class topic on a memorable journey through our solar system to learn all about the cosmos in the Planetarium’s 360° 15 metre hemispherical dome – an immersive and unforgettable experience!

Excellence at the Emirates!

Senior School athletes prospered at the Scottish Schools Indoor Championships, winning six medals over the course of the two day event at the Emirates Arena.

Congratulations go to James C (S6) on not only winning gold in the U20 800m event, but also setting a new High School record time of 1:58.19.

Angus M (S6) also won gold, leaping 11.83m in the Triple Jump event, while Amy T (S6) won a silver medal in the U20 1500m event.

Angus added to his gold with a bronze medal in the U20 60m Hurdles, while there were also bronze medal successes for Layla R (S4) in the U17 60m Hurdles and Adam W (S4) in the U17 800m.

NEW LANARK

Rising to the Occasion!

30 young musicians from the Senior School Music Department took part in this year’s ‘Rising Stars’ event, showcasing the finest young musical talent the High School has to offer.

The competition, for budding Transitus to S2 musicians, featured a number of unforgettable performances for parents and guests in attendance, with each performer singing or playing their instrument of choice with maturity, confidence and an abundance of talent!

Keep an eye on our socials and website –we’ll be providing an update on how much has been raised during Moore’s fundraising week very shortly!

Moore House Fundraising Week

Moore House brought the entire Senior School together following the mid-term break to raise vital funds for the CATS Foundation, a charity raising awareness of the challenges faced by families suffering from Tay Sachs disease, a very rare and life limiting genetic condition.

This charity is close to the heart of the High School community as the daughter of former pupil and former member of staff, Ally Maclay (Class of 2001), has been diagnosed with Tay Sachs. Ally’s niece, Cara (Transitus), a member of Clyde House, helped her Moore compatriots to launch their fundraising week prior to the mid-term break.

The fundraising week itself proved to be a huge success, with activities including the chance to soak the SLT, a staff vs pupils hockey match, friendship bracelet making, the Moore House Show, the U18 rugby squad’s Royal Rumble, and much more!

Transitus Tell The Tale O’ Tam O’ Shanter!

Transitus teamed up with Scottish Opera to perform an ‘Opera in a Day’ for their parents in February.

‘The Tale o’ Tam o’ Shanter’ was expertly told via the medium of song and dance by our enthusiastic Transitus cohort, led by professionals from Scottish Opera alongside support from our Music Department throughout the session. A team effort in every sense of the word, culminating in an unforgettable performance!
