• 106 pupils

• 80.3% ‘A’ grades

• 95.6% pass rate, with 57 pupils gaining 8 or more grade ‘A’ passes

S5 - Higher

• 102 pupils

• 77.3% ‘A’ grades

• 96.6% pass rate, an average of 4.76 Highers per pupil, with 54 pupils gaining 5 or 6 grade ‘A’ passes

• 51.9% ‘A’ grades

• 90.9% pass rate, with 23 pupils gaining 3 or more grade ‘A’ passes

The School were delighted to recognise such success for applicants, including 4 pupils achieving entry to Cambridge and 59 pupils being accepted to Russell Group institutions. Three leavers have decided to take a gap year and re-apply to university next year, with one taking on a pre-apprenticeship.

Academic Achievements

Biology

• Two S6 pupils finished within the top 5% of the UK to win gold medals in the British Biology Olympiad competition, with an S5 pupil also winning a bronze medal.

Classics

• A Transitus pupil won a prize in the Gilbert Murray Classics Essay Competition.

Debating

• Two S6 pupils finished as runners-up in the Grand Final of the Donald Dewar Debating Competition, taking place in the Scottish Parliament building in June.

History

• An S2 pupil was highly commended for her entry in the Poppy Scotland Letter Writing Competition.

Mathematics

• In the UK Mathematical Trust competitions, pupils achieved the following:

» 4 gold, 12 silver and 15 bronze awards in the Senior (S5 & S6) Mathematical Challenge, with two pupils qualifying for Round 1 of the follow-on British Olympiad, achieving certificates of merit and distinction, and one going on to compete in Round 2 of the Olympiad Competition.

» 11 gold, 24 silver and 22 bronze awards won in the Intermediate (S3 & S4) Mathematical Challenge. 11 pupils qualified for follow-on Kangaroo rounds, with one pupil achieving a distinction in the follow-on McLaurin Olympiad.

» 16 gold, 23 silver and 25 bronze awards won in the Junior (S1 & S2) Mathematical Challenge, with one pupil qualifying for the follow-on Olympiad and a further 9 pupils going forward to the follow-on Kangaroo round.

• 3 silver and 2 bronze awards were won in the Scottish Mathematical Council Maths Challenge.

• 2 distinctions and 2 merit awards were won in the Maths Olympiad for Girls.

Hockey

• The senior girls’ hockey team were crowned Scottish champions at the Scottish U18 Indoor Hockey Finals.

• Two S6 pupils represented the Scotland U18 Aspiring Squad and Caledonian Cougars U17 side.

• Eight players from S3 and S2 were part of the GHK U14 Scottish Cup winning side.

Pentathlon

• An S3 athlete represented Scottish Schools at the Indoor Pentathlon Championships and won the U15 boys’ competition at the SSAA Pentathlon Championships.

Skiing

• The Senior Open team won silver medals and the S1-S3 team won bronze medals at the SSSA Dual Slalom Skiing Competition.

Swimming

• An S5 swimmer won gold, silver and bronze individual and medley medals at the Scottish National Age Group Championships, as well as being a finalist at the British Open Swimming Championships.

Tennis

• Senior pupils represented a victorious Scottish team in the Four Nations Championships, while the senior boys’ team were runners up in the Scottish Secondary Schools’ Tennis Competition.

• The U13 boys’ tennis team won the Northern Final of the Aegon tournament in Sunderland before finishing third at the national finals in Bolton.

Charity, Community Involvement & Fundraising

Total Raised - £26,596.89

• Senior School House Fundraising Weeks supported The University of Glasgow’s Understanding Children’s Trust, DEBRA, Smile Train and Back Up, raising the total of £16,390.

• Various fundraising events at the Junior School helped to raise nearly £5,000 over the course of the session, including £720 for the 401 charity, courtesy of a ‘Dress as You Please’ Day and £563 to the Marie Curie charity for the Queen’s Jubilee Day.

• The Junior and Senior Charities Committees gathered food provisions and toiletries, kindly donated by the School community, to give to local charities and foodbanks in October and November.

• £1,719 was raised for East Park via Transitus cake and candy stalls throughout November and December, alongside our community Christmas appeal. £1,168 went to Save the Children following the Senior School’s Christmas Jumper Day.

• Nearly £1,000 was raised for Refuweegee during Anti-Bullying Week, £1,500 was raised for The Prince and Princess of Wales Trust during the Transitus ‘Go Yellow’ walk and £137 was raised by the GSA for the LGBT Youth Scotland charity.

• S6 pupils performed at a local dementiafriendly cafe as part of ‘Music and Wellbeing in the Community’ initiative.

The Parent Association

• Engaging with the High School community (staff, pupils and parents) to find ways to support all areas of the School.

• Events include New Parents’ Reception, quiz nights and uniform sales.

Global Education

• Eco-School - Green Flag status re-awarded during session 2017-18 (which has been held since 2012).

• Peace Club (Transitus - S1) - tackling global issues.

• International Links - Hong Kong, Uganda, Amnesty International, S6 Friday Lecture Series.
