Housed in the Phillips School of Business Department of Management and the Hayworth School of Arts & Design Department of Interior Design, Furnishings, and Fashion Merchandising, the new Furnishings Business minor combines practical and conceptual courses, as well as real-world experiences to prepare students for leadership opportunities in the $150 billion revenue furnishings industries. The minor is open to any student who wants to gain knowledge and skills in the business aspects of furnishings and interior design.

• XXX 4811: Internship for Credit Capstone (ITG 3010 prerequisite)

ITG 3010. Breaking Into the Furnishings Industries. It takes both an understanding of business and the capacity for creativity to be successful in the furnishings industry. This course explores how the design of the space constructs consumer identity and works backwards from the perfect space to the raw materials it is composed of, encompassing the full supply chain. Students will observe and analyze existing retail and manufacturing spaces off campus and interact with major players in the industries on and off campus. Satisfies HPU Lead Integrative Learning Requirement. Four credits.

XXX 4811. Internship for Credit Capstone. This course is designed to help place you in a furnishings internship Here you will apply your coursework knowledge and skills to this $150 billion industry. Prefix of internship will be from a subject offered by the Phillips School of Business or Hayworth School of Arts and Design based on the internship role. MKT 2110. Principles of Marketing and Personal Selling A study of basic commodities and manufactured goods from producer to consumer. Specific areas to be covered include consumer motivation, marketing research, marketing institutions, distribution, promotion and professional selling, product offering and pricing. Four credits.

INT 2140. History of Interiors I: Western Foundations. This survey course is an overview of architecture, interiors and furnishings from 3000 BCE through the Rococo period, focusing on developments in Western Europe; providing the student with a social and historical survey of architectural forms, decorative interior treatments, furnishings and fine art. Four credits.

INT 3040. History of Interiors II: Classical Interpretations and Modern Experimentation. An overview of architecture, interiors and furnishings from the 19th century to the present; providing the student with a social and historical survey of architectural forms, decorative interior treatments, furnishings and art. Three credits.
