New Eskom agreement reached for payment over next eight years T
HE announcement by Eskom Holdings that there will be severe load shedding from 23 January 2019 in Thaba Chweu was met by shock and outrage. The Thaba Chweu Municipality has done everything in their power to reach an agreement with Eskom. In a statement Mr Themba Sibiya, Communication Manager, said: The Thaba Chweu Municipality has prepared a new payment plan to deal with the outstanding Eskom debt over a period of eight years. This was necessitated by the unaffordable initial plan agreed to in 2014. The plan was
submitted to National and Provincial Treasury as well as to Eskom for consideration. A response is awaited. Meanwhile TCLM has paid Eskom an amount of R21 516 356.06, and continues to service both the current account and interest. TCLM has settled all current debts and as such there will not be an interruption of bulk electricity supply as previously suggested in the notice from Eskom. Both Graskop and Duma substations are up to date. The Eskom repayment plan is already in effect. TCLM owes Eskom over R 500 million. ~ Michelle Boshoff

Nou gaan ons rus Die Outoppie en die Highlands Panorama Nuus span gaan vir eers nou bietjie rus. Hierdie jaar het ons 50 koerante publiseer en is ons reeds 16 jaar deel van die wel en weë van ons plaaslike gemeenskap. Dit deur die genade van ons Almagtige Vader en danksy die sakegemeenskap wat ons ondersteun met hulle advertensies en ons vertrou met hulle bemarking. In die meeste gevalle rapporteer hulle dat die koerantadvertensies nog steeds vir hulle werk. Dit maak ons dankbaar. Baie dankie aan almal van julle. En as die Vader wil en julle bly ons ondersteun, doen ons so voort in 2020. Ons sal DV op 13 Januarie op kantoor wees en op 16 Januarie ons eerste koerant vir dié jaar laat verskyn. Baie dankie aan Reinet Bell, wat ons in Oktober verlaat het, aan Anandi Boshoff wat nou bykomend tot die grafiese werk ook die advertensies behartig, aan Jill Du Preez wat die kleinadvertensies en kantooradministrasie behartig en aan ons Redakteur Michelle Boshoff, wat elke week die koerant uitleg hanteer en vir ons die stories soek. Dankie aan Josias Moganedi en sy span vir die insit van die weeklikse pamflette op Woensdae en vir die verspreiding van die koerante op Donderdae. Dankie aan die plaaslike motorhandelaars wat by ons adverteer en wat my help om elke week twee bladsye se motornuus aan te bied en wat my ook met baie van hulle nuwe voertuie vertrou het vir padtoetse. Wat doen ek Kersfees, ek sal ’n wensbeentjie trek en in die stilligheid wens dat wonderwerke in oorvloed oor die ou aarde sal neerdaal. Dat kinders nie meer mishandel sal word nie, dat bejaardes se mense hulle sal onthou, dat eensames mekaar sal vind. Dat diere liefde en genoeg kos ontvang. Dat eienaars wat hulle weggee en vergeet sal verhonger en tronkstraf ontvang. Dat ons honde vir ewig en en altyd styf in ons arms sal wees. Mag niemand sonsteek opdoen nie en niemand in die braaivleisvuur aan die slaap raak nie. Want dan sal jy hoor: “Natuurlik weer gesuip as jy my vra.” Dat Kersfees meer liefde sal openbaar. Dat dit feestelik is en lekker. Dat ek ’n Midas-vinger kan kry vir ’n minuut. Dat die geldgod Mammon my los en nie na die blink en duur geskenke laat wens nie. Mag almal veilig aan al die kante uitkom, uitrus, nie meer as twee kilogram optel nie en mag niemand ’n tand tjip op tant Sara se Krismiskoek met die toegedraaide munstukkie in nie.
Vader Kersfees moet vir ons geduld deur die skoorsteen laat sak, wysheid en insig. Saam met geloof, hoop en liefde wat onder die Kersboom wag. Miskien is Krismis nie so ’n slegte idee nie. ~ Michelle Boshoff

AFRICA'S LONGEST TOBOGGAN RUN 1.7 kilometre track, winding and whooshing around the mountains in the Long Tom Pass Enjoy the ultimate ride of your life and 'excite your soul' on Misty Mountain's Long Tom Toboggan. Feel the wind in your hair and the thrill in your belly when you wind and whoosh around Mpumalanga's Long Tom Pass mountains on the Long Tom Toboggan, the longest toboggan run in Africa with an impressive 1.7 kilometre track. Simply hop on board your Long Tom Toboggan cart and prepare to take a deep breath when you reach a speed of 45 kilometres an hour during your three-minute ride, as you twist and turn through wild flowers and beautiful forest. Contact Head 167 feet down the face of the gorge into the forest below, Misty Mountain’s at 013 764 3377 where wooden walkways and suspension bridges crisscross through the landscape. Meander along a 1/3-mile trail through indigenous forest with interactive exhibits. The Graskop Gorge Lift is located on the panorama route and is an ideal stopover point, whether it will be for the view, the forest, the food, or the various adventure activities in the surrounding area. Only the front of the lift is glass from the waist height upwards. The total travel of the lift is 167 feet, traveling at approximately a yard per second. The trip is just about a minute long and leaves you at the 1/3-mile trail, which has 6 interpretation exhibits and includes information about the forest. A Nissan GTR for R 16 million Opel on the road to recovery
THE final production version of the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign has been revealed ahead of the first deliveries of the limited-edition model in “late 2020”. The production model – which will be on display at the Geneva International Motor Show in March 2020 – closely resembles the prototype version first shown back in June 2018. Nissan says customer demand for the production version has been “strong”, with a “significant number” of deposits already taken. The Japanese firm adds customers “across the globe” are currently selecting personal specifications for their vehicles. As a reminder, just 50 units will be produced, although Nissan now says a “limited number” of reservations for the remaining models are still available. “Our customers have relished the personalised experience provided by Italdesign, who have a long tradition in the exclusive field of ultra-rare, bespoke high-performance vehicles,” said Bob Laishley, global sports car programme director at Nissan. “Their experience with the GT-R50 has been incredible and I can say firsthand that each car will certainly be a standalone masterpiece.” Nissan teamed up with the Turin-based design firm to create the model (based on the GT-R Nismo), in commemoration of the 50th anniversaries of both GT-R and Italdesign. Powering each GT-R50 by Italdesign is a handbuilt, Nismo-tuned twin-turbo 3,8-litre V6 petrol engine offering 530 kW and 780 N.m. OPEL’s CEO says the German firm has “reinvented” itself under the PSA Group and is on track to achieve its target profit margin years ahead of schedule. The PSA Group, of course, completed its acquisition of Opel and Vauxhall from General Motors back in March 2017. Speaking to Automotive News Europe, CEO Michael Lohscheller said “we reinvented Opel”. “We started with symbolic topics. Whether it was cookies at meetings or the personal chauffeur for the CEO, cost cuts were made across the board,” he explained. “When we temporarily cut working hours at our Rüsselsheim factory in January 2018, we also reduced hours here at headquarters. That never happened before. We reduced the number of senior executives by almost one-third to accelerate the organisation. “These moves did not go unnoticed. People saw a whole new company. This had a profound effect internally and helped the team execute much more quickly and easily. “We couldn't have imagined that we would slash fixed costs by 28 percent last year. The biggest levers, however, were the reduced complexity combined with improved pricing power and revenue per car. They really made the turnaround possible,” Lohscheller said. carmag.co.za

This modern-day muscle car has received a limited-run special edition paying tribute to a car that garnered legendary status in Australia: the Valiant Pacer. Limited to just 50 units, this upgraded 300 features a 6,4-litre V8 HEMI with 350 kW and 637 N.m, as well as a set of Brembo brakes, a limited-slip differential and a fettled suspension and steering setup. The limited-edition Pacer is available in three colours (bright white, gloss black and ceramic grey) and is further distingishable via red-and-black decals across the bumper, sides and boot, as well as “Hemi” and “Pacer 392” branding. More “Pacer 392” badges adorn the interior, with the centre console wearing a plaque of authentication. Carbon Fibre Kit for Ranger A company in the United Kingdom has revealed a comprehensive carbon-fibre body kit for the Ford Ranger, handing the Blue Oval bakkie an aggressive new look. Motion R says the package includes a new front bumper (with integrated daytime running lights), front wings, quarter panels and rear bumper (framing the stainlesssteel exhaust system’s tailpipes), all fashioned from carbon-fibre. There’s also set of 20-inch OR1 concave alloy wheels. The visual upgrade furthermore incorporates a fully exposed carbon-fibre finish for the redesigned grille surround, front bumper intake and front splitter, as well as the widened wheel arches. The treatment is repeated on the wings with R-branded vents and at the rear with a diffuser and spoiler. And inside? Well, while Motion R has not released images of the upgraded Ranger’s cabin, it promises it has added carbon-fibre trim for the dashboard and a flatbottomed steering wheel trimmed in a mix of (you guessed it) carbon-fibre and perforated leather. Quilted leather upholstery, meanwhile, is optional. From what we can tell, no changes have been made under the bonnet. And we're guessing the aggressive body kit can be applied to pretty much any double-cab derivative (bar, perhaps, the Ranger Raptor). So, to the price. Although Motion R hasn’t published a figure on its website, a report from Motor1.com suggests the carbon-crazy package will set you back £39 995, which translates to a whopping R770 000 (not including the price of the donor Ranger, of course) at the current exchange rate. carmag.co.za

Thor - Monster truck READ those titles, weep at the frankly insane numbers, and then read them again just to try and get your head around them. You won’t be able to of course, because this custom big rig is quite possibly the most bonkers thing we’ve ever seen. Simply known as ‘Thor’ it was built by an American named Mike Harrah. Mike has had a few different jobs in his time – movie stuntman, stunt pilot and offshore boat racer to name a few – but he has spent the past seven years on this truck. Mike is now also a very rich man, because Thor has just changed hands at the Worldwide Auctioneers Riyadh sale for $13.2million (around R250 million). Naturally you’ll want the details. Buckle your seatbelt Dorothy, ‘cause Kansas is going bye-bye. The base truck was a 1984 Peterbilt 359 Ultra Custom TT Crew Cab. Mike then stretched the eight-wheeled chassis to make it 13 metres long, which gave him room to slot in two 14.0-litre V12 diesel engines. He didn’t stop there. Next up was the addition of 12 superchargers and a nitrous system. The result? 2,965kW and the title of largest engine ever installed into a road legal vehicle. That’s right – road legal. It’d be fair to say the engines added a little bit of weight, of course. Thor tips the scales at just under 15 tonnes, so we’d wager the handling is somewhere between cruise ship and block of flats. The top speed is apparently 200kph, though, and there are four drag racing parachutes to help stop the thing. Oh, and Mike says that on the back of Thor is an auxiliary power unit from a Hawker 600. For those not so keen on their aviation, that’s a jet engine. A JET ENGINE, people. We haven’t even touched on the way it looks yet either. That front grille is a 1933 Ford-style number, and there are flame motifs to match the actual flames that are inevitably created by the diesel/nitrous mix. There’s also a serious collection of air horns and a bloody great Thor mural on the back. The interior is obviously bespoke and leather-trimmed. Plus, there’s a dial for each of the 12 superchargers and even a sword for a gear lever. Truly inspired stuff. The best bit? Thor is still fully-equipped to tow trailers and has completely standard hook-up and rigging features. Anyone else feel a towing challenge coming on? Topgear.co.za
