What we breathe in Mpumalanga province has the highest levels of air pollution in the world, topping nitrogen dioxide levels across six continents, according to a new analysis by environmental activist organisation Greenpeace.

The report provides imagery detailing air pollution levels across six continents from June 1 to August 31 2018.

With this in mind photos of the Lydenburg dumping sight has emmerged where it was set alight again. The smoke and particles hang over Lydenburg and Mashishing and make it impossible to breathe.

Young men inspired for their futures

t was a scorching hot day on Friday but hundreds of learners and guests turned up for the Boy Child event. It was hosted under the leadership of Pastor Zodwa Hlatshwayo, who runs Uzenzela Wena Orphanage in Mashishing.

It was sponsored by Future Kings. In addition, community learners gave inspirational testimonies and advice. The young boys in attendance are sometimes victims of their circumstances. The big message was to use the mentors they were introduced to as beacons of hope in their life. Crime and drugs is a plea for help.

Guests included speakers from the community, provincial and government officials and Pastors. The Executive Mayor of Thaba Chweu Clr Fridah Nkadimeng was so inspirational in showing the boys that they can celebrate their life and not succumb to the evils out there.

Water pollution and water wastage is increasing at an alarming rate in Lydenburg. Social media groups are sharing the evidence where they say the council does come out to try and fix the problem but it never gets solved, as you can see with the evidence in the photo above. That is clearly a problem that has gone on for weeks.

Mr Pompies Ledwaba, a community leader of Mashishing wrote a letter to the Highlands Panorama News expressing his concern about pollution in town and our eco system.

Joel Pompie Ledwaba writes: Keeping our rivers clean takes a community of good stewards: The Department if Environmental Affairs is mandated to give effect to the right of citizens to an environment that is not harmful to their health or wellbeing, and to have the environment protected for the benefit of present and future generations. The status and condition of the Dorps River at the bridge between Mashishing and Lydenburg Town is disgusting and a concern to the health of residents, more specially those who walk over the bridge and those who drink the water from the river. Water is a basic resource that guarantees the life of all living beings on the planet i.e humans and animals. However it's scarcity and pollution cause millions of people to have poor access to this much needed asset.

Water pollution should be regarded as the most dangerous thing by our government because WATER IS LIFE. Water pollution kills plants, animals and humans. Polluted water also carries diseases. There are cows and goats who drink the polluted water at the Dorps River. This poses a health hazard to these animals and our people can even get these diseases by eating the infected meat. I'm calling for Minister Barbara Creecy to visit Mashishing to see how our rivers are polluted with sewerage channeled to the Dorps River. The river is smelling so bad and has changed colour to green because of sewerage spillages. As Mashishing Civil Coalition we are very concerned about the health of our communities.

By seker die derde eetplek vir die dag vertel ek vir iemand dat alhoewel ek ‘n groot genoeg gewete het om eerder na die kerkdiens te luister as popmusiek is niks meer so in my kraal deesdae om weer Wham en George Michael te luister nie. Ek dink omdat dit nou weer aanstap Kersfeestyd is en soos hulle in Engels sê ‘his untimely demise’, dink ek verskriklik weer aan die impak wat hy in my kinderskoene reeds op my gehag het. Top of the Pops, Springbokradio. Daai videos. O maar die mense het hul wenkbroue verskriklik gelig daarvoor. Hy was uit die bose.

Dié wat so vinger gewys het, het natuurlik sy liedjies op die radio geluister. Sy musiek was bevange.

Formation of an Escarpment Bird Club Lydenburg Chapter Steering Group George Skinner, Chairman, writes: In the light of the limited residential population of Dullstroom, and because we feel we have not concentrated sufficiently on the birdwatching needs and wants of our Lydenburg members and friends, we would like to form a Steering Group for Lydenburg to grow interest in birds and their habitats.

In this context, it should be noted that there are over 120 on our data base for Lydenburg, more than four times our list for Dullstroom, so perhaps we should also be considering basing the club in Lydenburg.

Many of the Escarpment's finest birding attractions, and nature reserves are found within a 50 kilometre radius of Lydenburg.

Examples are Verlorenkloof and the Badfontein, Rustenburg and Langkloof areas; Mount Anderson and its component

So we intend to hold a social get together to plan activities such as talks by bird, photography and conservation experts, local and regional outings, bird Atlasing challenges and to determine how the Escarpment Bird Club can better serve Lydenburg residents.

As al daardie lugversorgers of TV’s nie op dié dag uitverkoop nie, gaan ons dit teen dieselfde pryse volgende week kry?

Of loop mens die risiko om R 30 meer te betaal in rus en vrede? Ek verstaan wel goed dat sulke dae goed is vir besigheid, ook vir my besigheid waar die produkte adverteer word. Maar ek hol maklik weg.

Boeresport, perdespeletjies, toutrek en eiergooi...soos van ouds BOERESPORT soos van ouds is op die program hierdie Desember.

Op 14 Desember word ‘n Boeresportdag aangebied by Rooikat Rugbypark, Lydenburg.

Dit skop af om 09:00 en die inskrywingsfooi is R100 per perd.

Daar is baie pryse te wen. Die perdespeletjies sluit in dromdreisies, paaltjiesvlag, vlagresies, aartappel-enemmer, musiekstoele en reddingsresies.

Die boeresport sluit in toutrek, eiergooi en hula hoop.

Die boeresport was altyd tradisioneel op 1 Januarie maar die organiseerders gaan poog om die nuwe tradisie die Geloftefees-naweek te maak wanneer almal nog by die huis is. Monster Cyber Truck ELON Musk has finally revealed the new Tesla Cybertruck, claiming some seriously impressive performance figures for the unconventionally styled electric bakkie.

The US-based firm says the new six-seater Cybertruck (which interestingly uses an integrated canopy) employs an exterior shell made for “ultimate durability and passenger protection”. The “nearly impenetrable” exoskeleton is fashioned from "ultra-hard" cold-rolled stainless steel, while the glass has been armoured.

Payload capacity comes in at a claimed 3 500 pounds (that’s nearly 1 600 kg), while towing capacity for the most powerful model is a claimed 14 000 pounds (or about 6 350 kg). Adjustable air suspension looks set to be offered across the range, too.

So, what about those performance claims? Well, the Cybertruck will be offered in three forms. The first is a single-motor (rear-driven) variant, which Tesla says will hit 60 mph (97 km/h) from standstill in 6,5 seconds, while featuring a range of more than 400 km.

Then there’s a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive variant, which the company claims will complete the sprint in less than 4,5 seconds, while offering a range of more than 480 km. Lastly, Tesla says the triple-motor flagship will travel more than 800 km on a single charge and vanquish the obligatory sprint in less than 2,9 seconds.

The vehicle's approach angle is 35 degrees, while the departure angle comes in at 28 degrees, regardless of which variant you choose. carmag.co.za ED: Some people do not like the shape of this thing. I must say I like it. With proper angles and slab sides it reminds me of the 80’s Chevy Silverado. Beautiful with a modern touch. As far as the electric motor goes, not too practical in third world countries such as ours. I would like it with a 454 twin turbo big block V8 Chevy heart! Oh and replace the computer with a full set of digital VDO gauges - Andre Coetzee.
