TCLM council meeting held on 8 November was severely disrupted and ended in chaos. The council presented the exact same submission from 2017/2018 of properties to be sold in order to pay amongst other creditors Eskom. This was questioned by the DA and the EFF, as nothing came of this previous resolution. The two parties submitted that the item must be deferred so that more detail could be provided. The Speaker however refused the submission that it must be deferred and the DA on a point of order questioned the actions of the Speaker. The Speaker then refused to accept the point of order, which was submitted according to the Standing Rules of Order. When the Speaker refused the point of order the DA insisted that there should be division of votes in Council. This was supported by the EFF. Pandemonium then broke

On a video of the fight provided to the Highlands Panorama News evidence shows several people that were involved. Not only those on the photos. Out of frustration the Speaker called in the By-Law officers and Charbo Security Company, whose task is only to secure the building. Likewise the By-Law officers have no jurisdiction in Council meetings. But something had to be done. The Panorama took ‘screen grabs’ of the video’.

loose. Insults were thrown around and out of frustration the Speaker called in the ByLaw officers and Charbo Security Company, whose task is only to secure the building. Likewise the By-Law officers have no jurisdiction in Council meetings. The chaos then became physical and several DA an EFF Councillors were thrown out of the meeting. This resulted in several cases of assault being opened against a number of people at the Lydenburg SAPS. Cases were opened and are still to be opened against Judy Mkhize and Nomasondo Masemula, Mr. Ngomane of the By-Law department and others. A complaint has also been opened against Charbo Security. More charges against senior councillors of the ANC are contemplated. TCLM is apparently trying to show that it is able to meet demands from its top 10 creditors, including Eskom, by selling certain assets.

Fix of infamous Voortrekker and Viljoen Crossing will be a long and arduous undertaking

THE Lydenburg / Mashishing Business Chamber (LMBC) Exec meeting held a meeting last Wednesday evening to finalize the arrangements for the Gala Evening. LMBC also had interesting discussions with Bareng from the Glencore Business Hub and is looking forward to a great partnership. Feel free to visit them at the Sandcourt building. Isaac and Francis came to discuss the repair of the McGee / Isuzu / Nissan / Spar intersection with the LMBC Exec. The Exec urged the stakeholders to first engage with the businesses that will be affected before commencing the work on the road as the affected businesses have a problem with the work being done over the holiday (tourist) season. The schedule of this work together with TCLM will be communicated as soon as possible. The project is scheduled to take about 4 months. During this period residents (and trucks) will have to use alternative smaller streets, which will prove challenging as traffic is already severely congested and those streets are also falling apart. The affected businesses such as Wimpy, Spar, Mc Gee Ford, Longtom Nissan, Westvaal Isuzu and others are concerned that they will see a l a rg e d e c l i n e i n business during the period. LMBC suggested that the contractors add appropriate signage at all alternative corners, pointing the way to these businesses. Following this and budget depending, the plan is then to extend work on the rest of the R37 through Voortrekker street towards Sabie. Andre Hanekom (Secretary LMBC)

Mr Pompies Ledwaba, Mashishing Civic Coalition writes: The extremely terrified community of Thaba Chweu was violently subjected to a toxic atmosphere of terror. Public representatives almost killing each other without shame. After absconding from a simple noble responsibility of fighting the demon of poverty and unemployment, they foolishly chose an ungodly act of barbarism, what a shame to you Councillors. Even more disgusting is when senior leaders of the so called African National Congress (ANC) will rejoice in anarchy and encourage a black sister to inflict pain and injury to another black sister. \ ANC of today which is the direct opposite of the teachings of Nelson Mandela is today an architect of fraud, corruption and maladministration is shamelessly plundering our resources and enriching their family members, relatives and friends is a shame to the legacy of Dr Nelson Mandela. What is more worrying is that the ANC bigwigs are immune to prosecution. The reality is, as long ANC is still in power in Thaba Chweu municipality you are to be poor forever.

Die oplossing lê by wedersydse ondersteuning.

Tariff increase for nature reserves THE Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) will with effect from December 1, 2019 implement an increase in the entry fees at its various nature reserves around the province. The Chief Executive Officer of MTPA, Johannes Nobunga said a general increase based on 4,5% inflation rate for all product offerings in our provincial nature reserves was implemented. ” The annual increase in tariffs provides us with an opportunity to utilize the funds to improve our facilities and the viewpoints at all our main nature reserves in order to provide visitors with the best possible experience.”“The MTPA is governed by the MTPA Act of 2005, which obliges the Agency to progressively generate its own revenue collection. It is therefore important to note that the income in general will be used for continuous upgrading of infrastructure at our nature reserves”, added Nobunga.

Bourkes Luck Potholes, one of the most beautiful tourism spots As of December 1, 2019, all tariffs will be charged in South African rand and in other areas where applicable, it will be per person. These tariffs will continue to be increased annually according to the

inflation rate. Visit www.mpumalanga.com for a detailed schedule of tariffs for each nature reserve. Current tariffs for some reserves in our area are as follows: Ohrigstad Dam R35 pp entry and R200 camping (for 6) Verloren Vallei (Dullstroom) R 45 pp entry Bourkes Luck Potholes R55 pp entry

Gods Window R15 pp entry Blyde hiking trail R450 pp Loskop Dam R45 pp entry camping R200 and the mountain huts up to R2 000. Meanwhile day visitor entries into Kruger Park are around R100 pp per day, with accommodation fees varying depending on the number of persons, season and length of stay. www.mpumalanganews.com

ON Wednesday 23 October the Parliament Portfolio Committee on Police (PPC), approved an application for Firearms amnesty. A few more final steps will follow to make it law and be of effect to all firearm owners. The proposed amnesty will run from 1 December 2019 to 31 May 2020 (six months). It is anticipated that the SAPS will allow for the following: Re-application for expired firearms (this will be treated as a new application, NOT a renewal). Firearms will probably need to be handed into the SAPS for this process to occur. The SAPS will require a valid competency certificate (from the SAPS, not only a firearm training provider) to process any application, new or renewals. This means that if any competency or firearm

license application is to be processed successfully, the SAPS will require a Statement of Results showing that the Unit Standard for Knowledge of the Firearms Control Act (Unit Standard 117705) has been completed as well as the relevant Unit standard for the particular class of firearm; i.e. handgun, shotgun, manual loading rifle etc. It is crucial to note that all competencies are valid for five years and need to be renewed every five years. One can check the validity/ status of a competency at the Designated Firearms Officer (DFO) at any police station. Please contact Paul Zorn at Nyathi Training Centre 083 641 7275 for all enquiries and/ or renewals, new applications, for all competencies and unit standards for the various classes of firearms.

Uithaler-wyne uit Lydenburg se gilde Pending Firearm License Amnesty

Agter: Gerda en Brian Whitehorn, (voor): Herma en dr. Jakkie Swanepoel.

Kontak Gerda op whatsapp by 079 515 7799 of gerda@whitehorn.co.za

Mushrooms in all their weird and wonderful forms, basically in our own backyard Kelly Gottschalk is part of the Mycological Society of Mpumalanga and has been studying, documenting and teaching about our regional fungi for the past three years. Who knew there are such wonderful mushrooms in the woodlands and edible with the right guidance. With the turn of the seasons and summer rainfall upon us, we can expect to start seeing mushrooms pop up in all their weird and wonderful forms. Mpumalanga has some fantastic edibles and if you know where to look, you'll find them in abundance! Here are a few commonly found choice edibles to look out for: Termitomyces I have found 3 species of Termitomyces in MP, all of which are edible. These mushrooms grow in symbiosis with certain Termites and have a mutually beneficial relationship. Where to find them: You will find these where there is Termite activity. Look for small mounds of loose soil preferably in vast open fields which will make them much easier to spot. They will appear a few days after a good rainfall and will continue to fruit throughout the rainy season so once you've found them, keep going back every so often to check for new growth. What they look like: Termitomyces umkowaan (I'kowe) - These mushrooms can grow extremely large and are usually found growing alone. They have a creamy coloured cap with a pointy tip in the centre and are often found with cracks or tears on their surface. They have incredibly long stipes that grow deep into the Termite nest. Termitomyces clypeatus - These are very similar to I'kowe but smaller and can usually be found growing in clusters. Termitomyces microcarpus - Microcarpus lives up to it's name by being really small but when you do come across them, there will usually be hundreds! They are pure white and have a somewhat anise smell. These are best to harvest by cutting them just above the soil. They can be tricky to clean in such large quantities so it's best to prevent them getting soiled up from the time of harvest. Boletus Boletus edulis (King bolete) and Boletus aerus (Queen bolete) are highly sought after pored mushrooms. They can easily be dried and stored to use throughout the year. Where to find them: These gorgeous and tasty morsels can only be found growing around Oak trees. They also have a symbiotic relationship with their hosting trees. What they look like: They have smooth brown caps and their stipes have a a rough (reticulated) surface. These mushrooms do not have typical gills but instead have a pored sponge like appearance ranging in colour from pure white to dark yellow depending on age. Coprinellus micaceus (Glistening Ink caps) These tiny mushrooms are always found growing in clusters. 'Ink Cap' mushrooms cover a vast array of species all of which are edible. The Common Ink Cap (Coprinopsis atramentaria) contains a chemical called Coprine and should not be ingested with alcohol as it has similar effects to antabuse. Where to find them: These are wood eating fungi. Search near rotting hardwood tree stumps or underground tree roots. What they look like: Thin fragile stipes with caps ranging in colour from white to light brown. Micaceus

has a somewhat shimmer on their cap surface which are velum remnants. South Africa is far behind when it comes to wild food foraging and it's time this changes. There is an abundance of great and nutritious food sources in our range and MP has no shortage of these. Cape Town is by far the leading South African city when it comes to harvesting wild fungi and in recent years, the trend has attracted hoards of outdoor enthusiasts eager to learn and engage in this fascinating field.

Mpumalanga far surpasses Western Cape in edible species and it has become my obsessive passion to get people enthusiastic about learning and harvesting their own mushrooms. We have a local mushroom Identification forum on FaceBook (Mushrooms of Mpumalanga). If you are ever in doubt what species you have found or are curious and would like to learn more, this will be the place to get your answers. Kia Motors South Africa has announced pricing for its new Seltos ahead of the compact SUV’s official local launch later in November 2019. According to the automaker’s dedicated Seltos website, the Indian-built local range – which is set to take on the likes of the new Volkswagen T-Cross – will comprise four variants at launch. The base Seltos EX, employs the Korean brand’s naturally aspirated 1,6-litre petrol engine, delivering 90 kW and 151 N.m to the front wheels via a sixspeed manual gearbox. Standard features on these EX models include LED daytime running lights, automatic headlamps, 16inch alloys, six airbags, rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, cruise control, eight-inch touchscreen (with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality) and a leather-trimmed steering wheel.

WIELE WHEELS (Motoring) andrec@intekom.co.za 083 626 6305

The XE+ variant, meanwhile, uses the same powerplant (offered in automatic guise only) but gains a bit of extra standard equipment, including 17-inch alloys, hill-start assist and leather upholstery. And the flagship Seltos GT-Line? Well, this model employs a turbocharged 1,4-litre petrol engine offering 103 kW and 242 N.m to the front axle via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. That's enough, says Kia, for a sprint from zero to 100 km/h in around 9,7 seconds and a top speed of 189 km/h. As a reminder, the new Seltos measures 4 315 mm long, 1 800 mm wide and 1 620 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2 610 mm. All models are covered by a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty and a fiveyear/90 000 km service plan. carmag.co.za

New Hyundai Atos promises affordable motoring HYUNDAI South Africa has reintroduced the Atos as a budget car to rival the Datsun Go and Renault Kwid. With the new Atos, the Korean company has reinforced its entry-level hatchback offering in South Africa. Price is critical in the budget-car segment. In South Africa’s stalled economy, many car customers have been forced to buy down. Therefore, Hyundai’s entry-level offering has changed from Grand i10 to Atos. The previous Atos was very popular in South Africa; Hyundai sold no fewer than 45 000 units from 2005 to 2013. The new Atos is built on a K1 platform, which will reportedly become the standard for many of Hyundai and Kia’s more affordable sub-4-metre-long vehicles. The engineering claim is that this new K1 structure is 63% more rigid than Hyundai’s previous compact car platform, which should equate to better crash safety, sharper steering responses and lower vibration-induced noise levels. The newcomer's mechanical specification is modest but relevant for its R159 900 price point. The 1.1 Motion is powered by a 1.1-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine, which produces peak outputs of 50 kW and 99 Nm. Gearing is via a 5-speed manual transmission and drive is directed to the front wheels. The Atos' suspension configuration places coil springs at all 4 corners, with the front linkages having a McPherson strut-type set-up, while the rear-axle is held in place by a torsion beam. There are 180 mm drum brakes to slow down the rear wheels, while most of the brake-force is generated by 241-mm solid discs up front. The entire system features ABS, with additional sensors to enact emergency brake-force distribution. The Atos does not come with electronic stability control, but that isn’t standard on any of its rivals either. The Atos has a decent cabin architecture. Broad-spectrum infotainment

system functionality and smartphone synching/integration certainly sweeten the deal for any new-car buyer. As such, the Atos features a factory-fitted 7inch touchscreen infotainment system that plays nice with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The steering wheel also has satellite controls (audio- and Bluetooth handsfree toggles), but the column is neither height- nor reach-adjustable. For Hyundai to keep the Atos within the desired price bandwidth, it had to prioritise certain content items over others. You only have manually adjustable side mirrors, manual rear windows and seats that are not heightadjustable. The Atos delivers an adequate driving experience. For one, it has unquestionably better mechanical noise and vibration insulation than either the Kwid or Go. At highway cruising speeds, the Atos does "buzz" a little, due to its engine running at higher rpm than is the norm. Ride quality is fair, but this is a short wheelbase car rolling on 14-inch rims with 165/70 tyres, which means that the Hyundai's ability to absorb harsh surface ridges and imperfections is limited. The claimed average fuel consumption is 5.7 L/100 km. Hyundai’s new city car only has one real debit compared to its rivals and that is luggage space. The Atos is said to be able to accommodate 235 litres of luggage, while the Go and Kwid have more space in the back, at 265 and 300 litres respectively. And then there is the ownership journey, which is often an unconsidered, but crucial, element for budget buyers. With an asking price of R159 900 (November 2019), the Atos comes with a 1-year service plan and a 7-year warranty – the latter should make it marvellously cheap to run long-term. cars.co.za

Support Longtom Motor Group’s Toy Run LONGTOM Motor Group asks for your help. The Longtom Motor Group (Nissan, Renault and Hyundai) are planning their annual ToyRun. This great initiative has been running for the past 13 years to gather toys and other necessities for under-privileged children in time for Christmas. Old toys are given new life by the staff at the Longtom Group but new toys are just as welcome. This year the scope of the request is just a little larger to include non-perishable foodstuffs for people and for pets. “ Our plan is to help Home4Paws this year as well. I know every household is on a strict budget but if we all stand together we can make a difference. If a person gives willingly then he receives willingly as well. We would really like to help with not just toys but food as well. So for just one evening people do not have to go to bed hungry, or a child’s face is lit up by a smile from a gift and to help Cathy at Home4Paws feed the animals she rescues is our mission this year” says Fred Zeeman. So generous people of Lydenburg, Fred Zeeman has put up the challenge. Let’s stand together and prove yet again that Lydenburgers do care and do make a difference in peoples’ lives, especially over this festive Season. You can take your donation and drop it off at the Longtom Motor Group (Nissan, Hyundai or Renault) or contact them on 013 235 2381.

Meer pret as gholf vir Hervormers
