Milestone for Modikwa Achievement of 2 year Lost-Time Injury Free work hours
O
n Thursday 24 April, Modikwa Concentrator Plant celebrated its tremendous milestone achievement of 2 year Lost-Time Injury Free work hours. During the occasion both UASA and NUM representatives attributed the achievement to zero tolerance for unsafe acts, and employee's commitment to safety. The Concentrator Plant motto i.e. “Two Steps to safety” which encourages employees to focus on their Mini Risk Assessments, and Standards and Procedures, caused a noticeable change in the safety belief of the employees during the 2 year period of this motto, which resulted in an improved safety culture within the Plant. Acting SHEQ Leader, Hennie Wood, in absentia, sent a message of support to the Plant Team. Mr. Tumi Molapo, Concentrator Leader, highlighted that “if safety is possible with me, then it can be possible with you”. Employees should strive to improve on health and safety performance, by fostering a workplace free of harm and set a benchmark in the industry on safety and health. The Plant has decided to
take safety forward through sustaining the excellent performance, partnership and selfdiscipline of employees. The Concentrator Plant management has further recognised and acknowledged the outstanding safety practices and efforts by employees. This was shown by presenting an award to Jimmy Pfiser, who always takes safety very seriously, and goes beyond the call of duty to ensure that he seeks ways of assisting where he can. He put initiatives that will raise awareness on safety into place, including Plant PPE requirements, and the installation of rubber mats in showers to reduce the risk of slippery floors. The results of “Two steps to safety” led to the development of a new motto “My safety action= No harm and Zero injuries”. Inputs to this motto were provided by plant management to assist the further improvement on safety. “My safety action= No harm and Zero injuries”, builds on the foundation laid by “two steps to safety” and will further enhance concentrator plant safety over the next years. All employees supported the motto by putting their signatures on pledge.

Must eradicate the Health Risk can be avoided cancer of corruption from Thaba Chweu Cllr Johan Ligthelm, DA constituency chairperson in Thaba Chweu: Corruption in the Thaba Chweu Municipality has reached breaking point, and as the Public Protector, Advocate Thuli Madonsela pointed out recently: “It has the potential to derail democracy and disrupt the economy”. As in much of the country, corruption is rife in our municipality, and it is vital that ordinary residents stand together and act collectively against this cancer in our society. We simply cannot sit and allow it to continue spreading, and should not hesitate to expose it – without fear of being threatened. This can be done by bringing it to the attention of the media, by organising community meetings and informing your fellow residents, and by drafting memorandums and petitions and having them signed. It is important to remember to report accurately, and where possible, by identifying the culprits. Our municipality is rife with allegations of corruption. The DA regularly hears of contracts being awarded without proper due process being followed, where people
have to pay bribes to move up on lists for housing, electricity or sanitation, abuse of power, theft, and of course, nepotism and favouritism. We can only act on these allegations if we have the proof, and we have shown in the past that we are not afraid to report criminal activities to the police, the Hawks, and now recently, to the Public Protector. The time has come for the residents of Thaba Chweu to say enough is enough, and to stand together against corruption. We have to bring the guilty to book and clean up our administration.

Corruption
Raw sewerage is leaking into the spruit nearby FC Braun Park. The pumps that service this sewerage line of Thaba Chweu, are repaired on a six monthly basis due to the fact that the public from Viljoen Street, down towards these pumps, flush women’s hygiene products amongst other things that should not be flushed down a toilet. These items are not biodegradable and get stuck in the pump and cause the motor to burn out. This is extremely costly to the municipality as they have to send the pumps to Witbank to be repaired, which means in the interim the sewerage cannot be processed and contained where it should be, and it leaks into the spruit. This causes a serious health risk. Thaba Chweu municipality calls on the public to co-operate and not flush these items down the toilet. (Reinet Bell)

Residents are shocked by sadists who kills cats
T
he residents of Lydenburg, more specifically between the Lydenburg Hospital and the Dorps River are disgusted by the incidence of killing cats and kittens in this area. The SAPS has been informed about this. This area has been a target for animal murderers for years, putting tears in the eyes of everyone that loves their pets. The occurence of people leaving kittens out to die is also increasing. These sadistic acts need to stop and there is a group of people patrolling this residential area, who will report killers to the police. - Michelle Boshoff

Kan aan nog goed dink wat met e-tol rym. Een van die dae is dit ’n volle R15 vir elke liter. Miskien moet hulle dit net doen en klaar kry want ek het nog nooit van 'n gerondtrippel sonder besluite gehou nie. Ek lees ook dat die petrolding nie eers ons skuld is nie. Die hoë internasionale oliepryse speel ook ’n rol. Plus die politieke onrus in die Midde-Ooste en Amerika se swak dollar. Ek het nou besluit om ’n wil-mor-taakmag in te stel sodat almal moet saamstaan. Want soos ou drommels hou ons altyd ons bekke as iets ons nie aanstaan nie. Die sêding dat “n toe bek ’n heel bek” is, kan jou nie altyd help nie. Dus wil ek hê dat die wil-mor-taakmag klaagliedere moet skryf. Die petrol-ding gaan maak dat ons hik en snik elke keer as ons by ’n vulstasie stilhou, niks aangenaam daaraan nie. Anders moet ek maar ’n elektriese karretjie invoer (sal ook nie werk nie, want my tweepunt prop is stukkend). Wens dat karre op sweet kon loop. Almal wat die duur petrol betaal sweet meer as genoeg om die prys by te bring. Dan sal die sweet wat van ons aangesig drup die moeite werd raak.

Voor my geestes-oog sien ek die twee (ek neem aan dit was wyfies) bobbejane besig om op hul blakers deur iemand anders se rommel te “blaai”. Sou dit ’n mannetjie gewees het, sou hy na “moere en boude” gesoek het en nie na piesangs of inligting nie. Moontlik kon hy iewers iets reggemaak het? Hoop nie daar was ’n kleine bobbejaan, iewers in die gras, wat gewonder het wat de hel soek die twee oues nie. Baie dankie vir wat jul gedoen het, want ek; en ek glo baie ander, het weereens geleer dat die ou afgerymde woordjies: “ek het daaraan gedink; ek wou of ek sou” het geen betekenis nie! Dit wat jul gedoen het was die regte ding! Daar is te VEEL mense wat DINK, wat WOU of wat SOU maar bokkerol DOEN! Dis hoekom ons dorp, ons omgewing, ons paaie en alles lyk soos wat dit lyk! Daar is te veel mense wat kla oor die regering, die munisipale werkers en die toestand van ons land. Mense, kom ons erken dit ruiterlik, die regering, die dorpsbestuur, ens ens kan nie die land of ons dorp in stand hou nie, (enigeen wat my verkeerd kan / sal bewys?). Ons moet help. En waar kan ons help? By ons eie voordeur. Hou jou sypaadjie skoon, maak die gat voor jou huis reg, gooi jou rommel by die stortingsterrein of te wel die asgate. Laaste maar nie die minste: sou u enige “droë rommel” soos bottels, skoon blikkies, plastiek veral, papier / karton (kinders se “werkstukke” of “ou dagboeke” inkluis het) gooi dit in swart sakke of enige sakke en neem dit na die NG Kerk (Suid) vir hul herwinningsprojek. Asseblief net nie u nat kombuis- en tuin-afval nie. Is daar nie nog instansies wat die voorbeeld wil volg nie? Kom ons herwin waar moonlik en red ons aarde. Kom ons red ons dorp, ons provinsie, ons land. Daar is nie nog een nie! Hoop nie my kerk-raad neem my kwalik vir die voorstel nie.

Dit is so erg, dat as jy een sien, skuldig of onskuldig, jy moet koes, net omdat jy die voertuig sien. Baie van hierdie mense ly aan een of ander ernstige sindroom. Hulle verstaan nie hulle eie beperkinge nie en is onder die illusie dat hulle voertuie vir hulle tekortkominge sal vergoed. Moet net nie my hulp verwag as jy moeilikheid het nie. Jou arrogansie staan my nie aan nie en ons paaie sal ’n beter plek wees sonder julle!

R2.8 million state of the art library T
ubatse Chrome has sponsored the building of a public library at GaMapodile. The building was officially opened on 23 April. It was no coincidence that it was the same date as World Book Day. Tubatse Chrome agreed to assist with this project. The facilities include computers, a study area, reading area, conference room and very necessary computers. It was opened by the MEC for Arts, Sports and Culture in
Limpopo, Ms Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba and Samancor CEO, Mr J端rgen Schalamon. Samancor Transformation Manager, Mr Archie Palane and General Manager of Tubatse Chrome and Mr Desmond McManus. Mr Schalamon and the Library and Information Association of South Africa, were very impressed by this huge achievement.

Groot Kwilt- International Food Fair verjaardag The annual International Food Fair will once again be held on Friday, 25 May at Church Unlimited on the Barberton Road. It is the seventh year that the event will be presented and it has grown to a colourful celebration of international cuisine. Some 25 food stalls and three coffee shops will be available on the evening. Each stall will represent a country, serve its traditional food and dress up in the national costume of that country. The portions are smaller so that patrons will be able to sample many different styles of food on one night. Lowvelders are in for a real treat this year, as they will be able to sample food from exotic destinations such as Mexico, Germany, Switzerland, China, Thailand, Italy and Turkey. Some of the dishes on the menu include shwarmas from Greece, Dutch pancakes, tortillas, Malaysian and Thai curry, sushi, baklava and old favourites such as melkkos and venison potjie. Several local restaurants and bistro's will also participate in the event for the first time to add to the delectable variety of food available. These include the Spur, the French bakery, Love Eat Pray and Divine Coffee shop. Several local bands will provide live music on different stages at the Fair. This year a classical music recital by Janette Rotccher and her music students will be presented. Other local artists in action include the guitar duo Mind the Gap, David Michael and Gibraltar's Jaime Negrao and friends. Through this International Food Fair, Church Unlimited loves to reach out to the community in a creative way and celebrate the goodness of God to the nations of the World. It is the ideal night out for the whole family. The new contemporary Youth Centre of Church Unlimited, catering especially for high school youth, will be open to the public for the first time at the Food Fair. Entrance is free and additional parking will be available this year. The first stalls will open at 17:30 but the event officially starts at 18:00 until 21:00. Op 11 Mei 2012 vier Vlytige Kwilters op Lydenburg hul 10 de verjaardag. Dit sal geskied in die vorm van ’n uitstalling. Om hierdie geleentheid meer opwindend te maak, sal die SA Kwilters Gilde se rondreisende kwilt uitstalling, wat bestaan uit 40 kwilte van oral oor Suid Afrika, saam met hul eie kwilte vertoon word. Hierdie kwilte is van hoogstaande gehalte en verteenwoordig die beste kwilters in Suid Afrika. Terselfdertyd dien dit ook as ’n Kansa bewusmakings veldtog. Die uitstalling sal op Vrydag 11 Mei 2012 om 11 uur open in die NG Moeder Gemeente se Kerksaal te Kerkstraat, Lydenburg. Toegang is R15 per persoon. Behalwe die uitstalling sal daar ook demonstrasies gegee word. Jeanette Botha, SA Kwiltersgilde Voorsitster, sal ook kwilt materiaal te koop aanbied. Verversings sal deurlopend beskikbaar wees. Daar sal ook ’n kwilt uitgeloot word teen R10-00 per kaartjie. ’n Kort geskiedenis van Vlytige Kwilters is dat na ’n Bernina uitstalling en demonstrasie waar Mary Vasti van haar kwilte uitgestal het, was die Bernina Lydenburg Klub dames geprikkel. Die inisiatief om ’n kwilt groep te stig het daaruit gespruit. Petro Botha van Lydenburg Bernina het die nodige navrae gedoen en by die Laeveld Kwilters uitgekom. Vlytige Kwilters is gestig in Januarie 2002 met sewe lede. Marinda Bothma en Annetjie Combrink het om die beurt die klasse / demonstrasies aangebied. Met tyd het van die ouer lede weggegaan en jonger bloed het bygekom. Tans is hulle twaalf lede sterk. Kwilt is vir alle ouderdomme, soos hul lede aandui, met die jongste lid van nege en die oudste lid van amper sewentig. Die Vlytige Kwilters Lydenburg se vergadering is maandeliks op die derde Saterdag van die maand. Niewerkende lede probeer ook die maandelikse vergadering van die Laeveld Kwilters Gilde bywoon, wat op die tweede Vrydag geskied. So word verhoed dat die lede stagneer en voortdurend op hoogde gehou van nuwe tegnieke. Elke tweede jaar bied die SA Kwilters Gilde ook ’n kwiltfees aan, waar kwilte vanoor die wêreld vertoon word. Klasse word aangebied deur SuidAfrikaanse, sowel as oorsese onderwysers. Natuurlik is daar dan ook stalletjies waar alle kwiltbenodigdhede, vanaf werksmasjiene, materiaal, boeke en enige ”gadget” moontlik om kwiltwerk makliker te maak, te koop aangebied. Can you safely change your spare wheel? NEW research shows many drivers are ill-prepared for a puncture: an astonishing 1.3-million (four percent) in the UK admitted they didn't even know if they had a spare wheel. The study, carried out for Kwik Fit, the UK’s largest automotive repair company, found that a million (3%) drivers confessed to not having any provision whatsoever for a flat tyre. With an estimated 8.8-million (26%) having suffering a puncture each year this could lead to a quarter-million cars stranded at the roadside in the next 12 months. And it’s not just the rubber that’s missing in some cars -10% (2.9 million) of drivers who do carry a spare say they don’t have the jack or spanner to change a wheel; 36% (11.6 million) have the tools but don’t know what to do with them; 6% (1.8 million) are short on both fronts - no tools and no knowledge. There also seems to be confusion as a result of automakers no longer offering full-size spares wheels. One in 10 people (3.3 million) who have a spare don’t know whether it’s full-size or a low-speed space-saver, which could prove hazardous if a blow-out happens on a long motorway journey. Some manufacturers offer neither a full size spare nor a space saver, instead providing a puncture repair kit. More than four-million drivers (11%) have such a kit but the vast majority of them (3 million) don’t rely on the kit alone and also carry a spare. Roger Griggs, communications director at Kwik Fit, said: “The recent trend among car manufacturers to offer a spacesaver or repair kit instead of a proper wheel could be the cause of this confusion. It’s worrying how many drivers don’t know what provision they have for a puncture, but it’s even more of a concern to see how many have absolutely nothing in their car to deal with a deflated tyre. “For those who've recently bought a second-hand car it’s also important that they assess the condition of the spare - there could be damage that isn’t obvious at a glance and if it hasn’t been checked in a while it’s likely to be underinflated. “There are clearly gaps in knowledge around how to change a tyre. Changing a wheel is a skill that all drivers should have and if anyone isn’t confident enough to do so they can visit their local Kwik Fit centre and the team will happily show them.” Wheels24.co.za

ON 20 April students from Entheos Christian School traveled to Neos Christian School in Thabazimbi full of anticipation. Neos hosted a 4-day Adventure Camp with the warmth and hospitality they are known for. Rafts were built and put to water, there was Cricket, bare-back horse riding (where a few soldiers fell, only to get back up again) and the evening closed with a Camp fire concert. On Saturday morning, students had to make their own breakfast in the veld, after which they tackled the obstacle course with mud, water, syrup, apples, running, crawling, climbing and sweating ….. as a Team! That evening they were treated to fun and laughter at the “Sokkie” dance. After church on Sunday they returned, tired but ready for next year!

THE Entheos Junior Adventure Camp commenced on 23 April. Grade 4 – 7 Entheos students departed from Lydenburg to Bonamanzi Adventure Camp in Roossenekal. The aim of our trip was to have 4 days of FUN – it was a roaring success! We did some Team building and problem solving activities as well as eco creation and many different fun filled activities. We returned to Lydenburg on Thursday, tired, sore, scarred and blissfully happy to finish the Term with renewed vigor. We can hardly wait for our next Adventure with Oom Hans and the Team.

Ses Hoërskool Lydenburg atlete na die Suid-Afrikaanse Junior Kampioenskappe
Baie geluk aan die 6 atlete van Hoërskool Lydenburg, wat as deel van die Mpumalanga Junior Atletiekspan aan die SA-Kampioenskappe in Germiston deelgeneem het. Die harde werk en toegewydheid van al die afrigters en atlete het beslis julle sukses verseker. ’n Spesiale woord van gelukwensing aan Jada Lindström wat in die finaal vir Dogters o / 17 in die 1500m ’n negende plek behaal het, met ’n tyd van 4:56,78 sekondes. Dit is so sowaar ’n prestasie om op trots te wees. Geluk Marissa, Molefe, Johan, Mareli en Petroné met jul prestasies. Hoërskool Lydenburg is baie trots op julle.

ALL people, young and old, are invited to become part of a tug of war club near you. The sport is enjoyed by children, men and women. Tug of war is used as a sport for the development of instructors and leadership. The potential to get Provincial and National colors are very good. The SA women indoor team had won a 3rd place at the World championships in February 2012. The winning u / 18 school team at the SA Junior Championship will become the National team to represent South Africa at the World Championships. The National teams will visit Switzerland in September 2012 for the outdoor World Championships. Tug of war is not only about power, but teamwork, strategy and clever tactics. You win in tug of war, if you move backwards. The only thing that you need to form a club is: 8 people, army boots with steel toe caps and a rope. Provincial and National competitions are arranged, where the clubs can participate. The first Mpumalanga Provincial Club championships will be held in Secunda on 5 May 2012. The Secunda club invites all tug of war clubs to a combined club and social tug of war competition at the “Wiele Skou” in Secunda. During this competition teams from Northern Transvaal and Kwazulu Natal will participate. The purpose of the province is to establish tug of war clubs in all towns or communities. We need champions who are interested in Tug of War and will help to establish a club in their areas. All interested parties must contact the coordinator, to arrange for support such as equipment, training videos, advice and if possible to arrange a demonstration competition in their area. Michelle Boshoff “Want dis die ysterman,” het Theo Schulze gesê. As ’n leek wou die uwe weet hoekom nou eintlik hierdie uitmergelende driekamp. Daar het julle dit. Niel Stubbe, Marx Dunne, Theo Schulze, dr. Wilmar Trümpelmann, Werner van der Merwe van Lydenburg en Gustav Klingbiel het hierdie legendariese uithouvermoësessie gaan aandurf. Die Spec-Savers Ysterman 2012 het op 22 April in Port Elizabeth plaasgevind. Sowat 2000 atlete het 3.8 km gaan swem, 180 km

fiets gery en ’n marathon van 42.2 km gaan hardloop daarna. Boonop is dit alles in een dag. Die windspoed van 57km/h en rukwinde van 80km/h het nie hul taak makliker gemaak nie. Maande se oefening het die Ysterman voorafgegaan en sommige van hulle is reg om dit weer volgende jaar aan te durf. Die Ysterman het nog nie hul moed gebreek nie. Vir sommige mense klink 42.2km se draf haalbaar, maar sit so 180km op die fiets voor dit en nog 3.8km se swem eerste op die lys. Ysterman is definitief nie verniet die naam van die sport nie.
