Shearer Safety Zone

The shearer safety zone only functions when SRB is operating using Infrared or Serial Tracking. A safety zone is established around the shearer so shields can not advance automatically in the Shearer area. This provides a safe area for the shearer operators and prevents collisions between an attempted shield advance and the shearer. In this area, shields can be advanced manually if needed but they can not be moved automatically. This zone is established by setting the parameters “Auto HG Safety Zone”, and “Auto TG Safety Zone”.

The position is also included in the calculation of the Shearer safety zone. If “Auto HG Safety Zone” is set to 5 and “Auto TG Safety Zone” is set to 7, then there would be 13 shields in the Shearer safety zone since the position counts as one. All shields in the Shearer Safety Zone will show “ShZone” on the display. When the shearer is moving in the direction where SRB advances shields behind the shearer, then shields immediately after the shearer safety zone will change from “ShZone” to show “! ASQ! *Warning* and the shield will start moving as soon as the prewarning has expired. No shield in the shearer zone will move automatically. If a shield needs to be moved while in the safety zone, it must be moved by using the man-in-place keys from a nearby shield.

Manual Safety Zone

When SRB is operating using manual tracking, the operator is establishing and moving the shearer position by pressing keys.
