The Server PMC-R is responsible for numbering all of the shield PMC-Rs and integrating the shield system with other systems via the PMC-P. The Server PMC-R also provides control of the dump valve. See Pressure Dump Feature on page 16. The Visualization Computer Unit (VCU) monitors and records information from the shields so the user can monitor the longwall operation, change settings, and review data to identify maintenance requirements and better understand the operation and utilization of the longwall system. By making changes to various parameters, it is possible to trigger shield movement – caution is required!

The following pictures show the layout of the PMC-R power connections and the electrical hardware involved. There is a chart to show where the isolators are to be placed as well as all the power supplies. Generally the power groups across the face are the same size; the two groups at each end may be different.. The Server must be powered by its own power supply; there must be an isolation adapter located on the first face shield between the shield PMC-R and the Server PMC-R. To ensure compliance with the MSHA Intrinsically Safe approval, power supplies and isolators should be installed as shown in the print.
