Flashing lights

The flashing light feature is an option that is only available with the Integrated Lighting System in which the area lighting luminaires connect to the PMC-R brass mounting bar for power and control. These luminaires are capable of showing white and 4 other colors, Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow. During the Autosequence, the lights will flash to warn the operators that shields are moving. This is a safety feature and must be maintained. Lights are installed on every shield which provides a highly visible in-shield warning when the shield is advancing. If the in-shield light cannot flash, the ASQ will fail and post an error (err: "ASQ ERROR luminaire blink failed"). Non-functional lights can be identified on the VCU.

“SOLID WHITE”

“FLASHING RED”

“SOLID RED”

“FLASHING WHITE”

“LIGHT IS OUT” When the shield is not doing an Autosequence, the light is solid white.

When the shield is Autosequencing it will switch to the Red color and flash all the time it is prewarning or active in the Autosequence.

When a shield is selected and being operated manually by using the man in place keys it's LED will be solid Red.

Critical ASQ error messages will cause the light to blink. See ASQ Critical Errors below.

This shield will be unable to complete an ASQ. The “luminaire blink failed” error will be posted when the ASQ fails.

“LOCKED” This shield is Locked. The local Black button is pressed on this shield.

“WARNING”

“SOLID YELLOW”

“INFORMATIONAL” This represents some type of warning. Locations and patterns will vary to match the specific warnings. Displays will show message. Conveyor prestarts and overload messages are represented with this light along with the use of the PMC-R beepers for audible warnings. Conveyor Prestarts: Alternate LED on every 5th shield. Conveyor Overload: Travel from shearer position out to each end of safety zones and back twice to get attention of operators.

There are different reasons why an LED will be lit solid yellow. They are: 1. If the shearer is being operated remotely from a location other than the face. 2. If a shield has been remoted across but not yet selected.

This light is informational. The PMC-R displays will explain the reason for the notification. Patterns can vary as to their locations. Some of these messages may originate from the PLC, which allows the operator to send messages from outside also.

ASQ CRITICAL ERRORS

These ASQ errors are considered critical because they indicate that the shield failed to advance completely. When these errors occur, the light will blink white 4 times every 10 seconds for 60 seconds total. This is meant to notify operators in the area that the shield has not advanced properly. After 60 seconds, the blinking will stop and the light will stay solid white; the error will remain in the PMC-R.
